Now that Toshiba has announced that it is dropping the HD-DVD format prices are falling. This is the cheapest I have seen a HD DVD player yet. So if you have movies already or want a player than can upscale to HD its not a bad deal. Alternatively stick your HD-DVD's on ebay while people are interested :)

Personally im going to wait and hope they get a bit lower.

On a side note much of the media should drop in price too over the next few weeks which may make for some good deals.

Incidentally Play are offering the same thing at 79.99 (Free delivery)

Don't forget that if you bought this less than 30 days ago (whilst the 5 additional HDDVD offer was on) you can claim the difference back from Amazon....

Official announcment tomorrow, then HD DVD players will be removed from the shelves...

I would give this one a miss.

oh well, here we go again....:whistling:

Will everyone stop posting links to the news articles stating that Toshiba is pulling the plug. WE ALL KNOW.

Im not suggesting THAT hd-dvd is the format to go for but its a notice that

a) People that have HD-DVD's could start selling them before the prices do bomb (which they will)
b) If they want to stick with the HD-DVD's they have its the best price for a player so far
c) over the next few weeks there might be some very inexpensive HD films floating around.

Personally im still not sure about the long term future of HD.

There is little media around and whilst Blu Ray has clearly won the battle I do expect to see more internet delivered HD over the next few years (with ventures such as Apple TV or better). I'd pay a quid or 2 every time i wanted to watch a movie and save on media clutter and it wont take the film companies long to exploit DRM protected movies and capture this part of the market.

The problem is they don't want to charge you £1-£2 everytime you watch it, they want £3-£6 instead. You can buy the disc for that (DVD currently, BR in a couple of years). Coupled with the fact that around 70% of the UK can't get internet fast enough for HD bitrate means that in the UK at least services like that aren't viable.

I agree 'deleted Username 3'?! online film rentals are way overpriced.

It seems crazy since it seems like a good opportunity for the film companies to get people interested.

it cant be that long before film companies catch on :)

Their margins must be much bigger on online rentals as well due to the low distribution cost and captive audience (for advertising other films)

ner mind if it were 7 films and the player for this price i would :)

Cheaper & much better option than play.com seeing as if it drops in next 30 days you can claim difference back

Dont buy this! HD-DVD is dead, BluRay has won.
Sorry, couldnt resist. :-D Can't believe this thread is one hour old and no-ones bitched about hd-dvd being a dead format yet...

Thanks for the tip. Bought one of these from Amazon 14 days ago. How do I go about claiming the difference.
Thanks.

Hold on, YOU may know, but others who dont spend all day trawling through HD DVD posts may not know!

It's important for readers to understand that HD DVD's days are numbered and they do not buy this deal without knowing the facts. I'm sorry if you may have fallen victim of Toshiba's decision, but let our knowledge be learnt by those less informed.

OK?

Voted hot as they come, you can't get a better SD DVD player for this price, never mind one that will play HD DVD DISCS now and always. 2 free films in HD is another bonus. Screw £200+ for an outdated non 2.0 BLURRY player. Get one of these and laugh in the face of sony fanboys. If and I mean IF blurry ever becomes a major format (which is very unlikely) then you may as well enjoy a superior HD experience now with one of these and then go blurry when they sort out there format and release completed spec players at a decent price.

You really do need a good couch session, shed some of this anxiety. Did your mom drop a HD-DVD player on your head as a babe? Did an Xbox 360 give you the wink? Pray tell.

I just had 42 quid refunded to me by Amazon. So that's 7 HD DVD films and an EP30 for 77.99 quid. I'm positively delighted Toshiba pulled the HD DVD plug before my 30 days price pledge at Amazon expired !!

Also just had my 42 quid refunded from Amazon. Amazing deal. Still got my 7 HD Films to watch. Extremely pleased.
#22
Still the best "DVD" player at the price.
#23
Good price for a HD-DVD player,

Very envious of those who got 7 movies and the player for £77.

I guess they won't be able to give them away soon! :) Shame coz I've some HD-DVD movies and the Xbox add-on. Shame they didn't survive side-by-side for longer.
