I would much rather get from amazon than play.com as you can take advantage of their price drop policy if it drops again. hot

Ahh i ordered one for my parents but i tried to cancel and play.com will not let me :( just seen on play.com t&cwill not ship electronics to another address but play.com told me its already getting ready to be shipped :/

I would also perfer to have got it from Amazon as there great for returning stuff to if it ever has a fault etc
#7
It may be a good offer but did you know that they have stopped making HD players.
A lot of stores are panicing to sell HD items in case they are left with dead stock.

Think well all know that ....wouldnt be this price if they were in demand now would they

What I don't get is that we are seeing the hardware heavily discounted, but other than Amazon Germany no really good prices on the discs!

You would think they would be trying to dump the discs too.

I know there are US sites and Aussie sites doing deals, but my only order from AUS got cancelled :-(

I'd rather deal with a company in the EU and avoid any possibility of import duty etc.

First person to mention Betamax!

Woohoo, I win \o/

Yes, this probably looks a better deal in case the price goes down even further in the next month, which it looks like it could happen they way it's going.

Bought one from Amazon last month for £77.99 so just put in for my refund.:)

Also bought one from Play yesterday so this £28 refund pays for half the one from Play!

Well chuffed!

I think you can claim more than once as well:-

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?ie=UTF8&nodeId=1040614

It doesn't say they wont honour more than one claim?

Post-Order Price Guarantee

Amazon.co.uk's prices for released items will change from time to time based on a variety of factors. If Amazon.co.uk's price for an already-released item decreases within 30 days after we dispatch the item to you, we'll be glad to refund the difference in price if you contact us.

It comes with an Ethernet port. What is it for? Can i use it to connect network storage?
#16
Not sure if to go for this Amazon deal or the play one with 7 discs and sell them all on ebay making the player really cheap.

"You'll find an Ethernet port on the HD-EP30 so you can hook it up to your broadband router. Once configured, you can use the HD-EP30 to access online content from the web (found on discs like Blood Diamond) as well as download firmware updates."
#18
But those of you with large digital media libraries hoping to play them on the EP30 think again - the deck doesn't support MP3, JPEG or DivX. It does however play CD, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R and DVD-RW discs, provided they've been finalised.
#19
I'd already claimed since my original purchase, but that was 6 weeks ago now so can't take advantage of this new price drop.

Top price though! And Channel Islanders get VAT off too for a bargain-tastic £42.54 with super saver delivery!

would this be ok to use as a standard DVD-player on a normal SDTV (panasonic 28 inch etc)

HD DVD is out of the picture now.

The format war is over! And Blu ray has won, whats the point of buying it? You will need a blu ray DVD soon.

This player is a bargain in itself for its upscaling abilities. The HD aspect is a bonus. There are far more titles available on HD right now than on Blu Ray, and they are a damn sight cheaper too. This is a great unit to bridge the gap between now and when the price of Blu Ray units and discs becomes more affordable. That's why people are buying this player. I bought Shrek 3 on HD-DVD from DVDCrave.com.au yesterday for a grand total of £7.50 shipped. I can't even get the SD-DVD over here for that price. I, for one, won't buy a Blu Ray player until the price for both machine and media has dropped substantially. Considering the money Sony has invested in Blu Ray, I can't see that happening for some time to come.

In all the years I've owned a DVD player, I've never used it for MP3 playback. I have a DVD player capable of playing DivX via disc or HDD through USB. To me, this is not an issue. Most normal none-too-internet-savvy people aren't sailing the 7 seas of piracy, so the lack of DivX playback won't be an issue to them. If it really is an issue, convert the Divx file to DVD and play it as R0 disc.

The only bluray player I would even consider at the moment is a PS3, due to the profile issues with current standalone players, but for the £250 I'd spend on a PS3 I can buy this plus 25-30 movies. It also upscales my DVD collection far better than my current upscaler does. If this only upscaled SD-DVDs then it would be a good buy for those with large collections, but with it giving you the opportunity to sample genuine HD on a budget it's a no brainer.

I suppose you think anyone buying SD-DVDs are wasting their money too.

A certain person on DVDF said the PS3 is a great Blu Ray machine and a **** games console... ;)

For sure you can convert the media yourself, but the chip/software to perform mp3 and divx decoding is NOT expensive, and really should have been included in the spec.
>> Again imo <<

I think it's worth telling other less techy people that this is NOT the all singing all dancing solution.
Knowledge and communication is power peeps!

That's my point, though...less techy people won't be downloading Divx files. They'll be buying bootleg R0s off the local market and the such like. Those who are tech-savvy enough to know how to download Divx files (and where to get them), will also know how to convert to DVD. Nero 8 is great, by the way. ;)

Not quite as simple as that, TV would need component input, video/audio input or a SCART adapter

Just had a response from Amazon in regards to the 'price promise' they offer - £28 refunded just like that.

Purchased 3 weeks ago for £77.99 + 2 free HD DVD's (sent away for additional 5 free HD DVD's - received) and now I've got a refund to match the Play deal. Lets hope it goes down again and I'll make another claim.

Great customer service from Amazon !

For better playback would people recommend this or the external 360 drive ?

I'm just asking since the price difference now is basically marginal.

Anyone lend me a student code - is this possible for play.com?

Get this over the 360 add-on. From what I've heard, the noise from the 360 fan during playback of a film is really loud and intrusive.

I'd go for the EP30 over the 360 add on.
