This Toshiba HD-EP30 HDMI Upscaling DVD Player With HD DVD High Definition Playback comes with 2 Free HD DVD Titles and is now just £49.99 delivered @ Play.com!

This is another step-up model for consumers approaching HD DVD for the first time. It will output high definition content in 720p, 1080i and 1080p, the very best high definition video output. For the home-cinema fan the 24 frames per second output will be a real bonus, displaying film at the rate it was originally captured by the studio. The HD-EP30 also up-scales standard definition DVD output to close to the same high definition outputs to give a new lease of life to a consumers current film library.

Crisp, vibrant high definition images are only half the story, incredible sound quality is required for that true home cinema feel and here the HD-EP30 really delivers. It supports the very latest surround sound formats from Dolby and DTS, delivering breathtaking audio to complement the stunning visual performance.

Hot - Good price even if used just as an upscaler
#2
i know what uve said above isnt overly complicated, but im a tru follower of layman's terms! haha.... so basically.. is this a HD DVD player?
#3
Got there before me. Great deal for an upscaler with 2 discs, never mind the sort of redundant format. Might just go for this now.
#4
and quidco too...

Anyone price match play.com on the high street?
#6
Thanks Cat :)

PC World do, but DSGi recalled there small stock of HD DVD's a while back, so you won't find one there.
#9

This higher spec model Toshiba HD-EP35 is also available for £119.99 including two HD DVD's

Yes it is.
#12
No Divx and no multiregion.
#13
I couldn't find any multi-region hacks for this either so can only assume its not.
#14
Sorry to be dense but will this mean I can play normal DVDs to my 42" Plasma and get a much better picture than using a standard player?

Yes if you use HDMI. However if you have any imports (SD films) none will play on this.

Shock horror, I am voting HOT on a HD-DVD deal.

This really is a hot deal, I feel some sorrow for those who bought the 360 add on recently.

Yes and its a very good upscaler too (again using HDMI)
#19
I bought the EP10 reduced on Play the other day for £59.99, that was without the HD discs - think that will be going back in exchange for this 1!

Erm... what's HDMI mean?

Just bought the Samsung 42" from John Lewis it is HD ready - will this dvd player mean that I can watch my standard films as well as HD DVD's?
#21
This is really hot but I have a lot of Region 1 DVDs so no good for me. I'd be interested in a decent upscaler but it needs to be multi-region, and with HD DVD basically adding nothing to the cost now... anyone got any recommendations?
#22
Hehe. When they're £25, I'll buy one... ;)

Seriously though, never thought I'd consider buying an HD DVD player but at this price, I'm very tempted just so I can watch 300 in high definition! Plus, of course, there's gonna be a lot of very cheap HD DVD discs flooding the market soon...

thanks for that.. rep given....

stupid question 2: what is the difference betwen this and the 119 quid one, better quality??
#24
does this make toast?...No seriously does it have a usb

HD DVD is a dead format, hence why this is so cheap shops are just clearing out old stock and there will be no future releases on this format.

Think of it this way HD DVD is betamax and Blu-ray is VHS.

I have quite a new philips dvd player : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-DVP5960-Multi-region-capable-upscaling/dp/B000G2Y59E/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1205233525&sr=8-1

#30

A cracking piece of kit for under £50

JUST BOUGHT ONE!! BRILLIANT!!

Can anyone recommend a relatively decent priced HDMI cable (and i dont mean spending £50 on a Monster one!!)

There is a Philips one in Argos for £20, would this be suffice....or is it REALLY worth spending £50 on a cable???

I've emailed Amazon to ask if they are going to lower the price of theirs to £50........

Well if you don't ask, you don't get!

HDMI is basically a port on your tele. You are likely to have at least one on our tele. You then need an HDMI cable to connect the two like you would a scart lead. Look on your tele there will be a port labelled quite clearly as HDMI.

Cables quite cheap at Play 7.99 for a 1.3HDMI or it was when i got one the other week.
