BR has indeed won the wars BUT these are extremely good deals with plenty of software still available for them ,hence the bargains for what some are calling obsolete technology .

Ah, right....... good for upscaling and such like?

Best value player out there right now! Shame that HD-DVD lost the battle. The hardware is excellent and had a few surprises up its sleeve with USB and net connectivity. Still like everyone says worth buying for the upscaling ability.

thanks!

Seems like these HD-DVD players have become like hot potatos to a lot of companies! Good buy voted hot!!

Yep, I don't expect BD's lifespan to be too great either, but then that's an arguement for another forum.

Great price for what it is though.

It has a fantastic upscaler in it, was going to wait for Matrix to come out on BR but the original DVD playing on this machine is so good Im not going to bother.
#15
I have one and love it! Only just started watching the HD discs I got with it and its amazing. Watched Van Helsing last night and the picture was great, it even gives so-so movies a new lease of life! Think about it - Kate Beckinsale in 1080P :w00t: (and ok, a bare-chested Hugh Jackman for the ladies  ) Upscaling is very good too and the main reason I got it - HD is just a bonus I am taking advantage of at the moment. And you can get films from as little as £4 + del from Australia!

What's the deal with the Ethernet connection - I can't think why a DVD player would need that.

And did someone say it has a USB port? Or just that some HD DVD players do?
#17
Can anyone confirm if this model comes with 300 and Bourne Supremacy in the box as standard?

I know when Play and Amazon wwere selling this and the EP35 they say 2 discs in the box, hence the question if it's a Toshiba promo and all players have them regardless of where they are sold.

I am dubious as you would think retailers would mention it if so, but many don't....

I have reserved one at Comet and will decide tomorrow. Delayed too long with the Play deal and when i decided to order they'd sold out... Gutted.

It downloads and installs its firmware updates via ethernet ;)

It does have a USB port, but as far as I know, the current firmware makes no use of it.

It was made to be future proof. How ironic. :p

Watching "Life on Mars" as we speak through it and the quality is outstanding. Excellent player. I'm tempted to get another one for the bedroom and sell the two HD-DVD's on eBay. Voted hot.

Laskys are also doing it for £58.99 (plus 2% Quidco).
#23
Double post, sorry.

Edit : Found answer to my own question.

Bear in mind these have their own drawbacks which i found too annoying to get on with, namely the time it takes to be able to use them, 20 - 30 seconds after you turn on before you can put a disk in.

It dosent sound much, but it is annoying.
#26
Just got 10 HD DVDs delivered this morning for about £4.50 each :P So if you get one of these there is no excuse for you not sampling some HD goodness :D
#27
got mine from comet in Merthyr Tydfil (wales) and came with two free hd disks! Its great!:-D
#28
Managed to snap it up for £49.99 last week and it truly is a magnificent player. had to remind myself whilst watching Gladiator I wasn't watching a HD version !

Came with Bourne Supermacy and 300. well worth getting.

Just turn it on 20-30 seconds BEFORE you want to put a disc in, and you'll be fine. Trust me.

Haha Quality ! ;-)

I don't think the 20/30 seconds is that bad to be honest. Especially when you know it's like that and not slowing down for another reason. I'm just glad it works !!!!
#32
Just picked 1 up from Comet in Pontefract. Excellent stuff.
#33
Picked one up last night from Kinnaird in Edinburgh! Thanks for the heads up!

I'm really impressed with it so far!
#34

Anyone know if the HDMI lead in the box is good enough?

Definitely, HDMI is a fully digital interface so all it carries is 1's and 0's so the expensive ones do the same as the cheap ones! Only consider spending that little bit extra if you want much much longer cables.

Not worth it in many peoples opinion!
