This is a decent deal. Next cheapest I can find is £399.99 at Best Buy.

I purchased a Samsung i3 (LED) with a lower clock speed for about £389 about three days ago off Amazon.

This is faster and better brand (Toshiba)

So the screen is LED in the same sense other laptops are?

Hot from me! I've been stalking a machine of this spec for a couple months now.

£359 for this Core i3 370m @ 2.4Ghz is not bad at all. Dell were pushing out equivilent spec Inspiron 15R's until last week at £449 (they've now upped the spec and price so fair comparison can't be made)

A bit light on the memory: think I'll add a couple gig from Crucial etc for £~15.

24 free cinema tickets via Toshiba offer (nice find darren999!) make this an even better deal.

Oh and quidco tracks at £11.46 too.

Summary: Good brand, reasonable spec'd laptop + 12 trips for me and her to the cinema coming in at £347.47. I'd say that was a hot deal!

I was tempted as that laptop seems to have a lovely finish (pity the offer was not £30 - 50 cash back like previous Toshiba promos) watch out for the battery though as the Toshiba lappy I have battery is pretty bad (probably my fault as I charged it once left it for months and then when I came to charge again it charges but if you leave lappy for 3 days the battery is practically empty)

make sure to use the instructions for battery care to avoid my mistake with battery etc

HOT!

Ordered one of these for my dad.

This model qualifies for the Toshiba Movie promotion.

12 Months Lovefilm subscription for FREE or yearly tickets for Odeon cinemas.

http://www.toshiba.co.uk/promotions/film/index.html

Also if you have a qualifying old Toshiba laptop, you can claim even more money back (upto £100!!)

Just received mine: the 2GB memory was supplied as one stick, so there's a free socket for whatever else you choose to put in. I'm going with 2Gb from Crucial for £15 delivered (after quidco)
#14
Been looking for a laptop recently and the odeon deal on this is tempting. Just wondering how hard it is to update the memory? Seen crucial memory quoted a few times and had a look at their website, but I'm not too clued up on computers so not sure what I'm looking at and how I can update memory etc.

Any help/advice will be appreciated. Thanks

Is this the best price for an i3 laptop? By research shows yes, unless you're dabbling into the world of refurbs!
#16
Reviews seem to indicate that the keypad sucks unfortunately, so gonna give it a miss. Thanks anyway OP :)

Core i3s are pretty basic CPUs, you could get a better specced laptop on here for the same if noy less. Voted warm

Ordered this yesterday for a friend; planning on adding a 4GB stick (just £30 or so from Kikatek; at that price it should only cost £60 total to max it out with 8GB, if one wanted to). Haven't seen any i5 machines for this sort of money so I reckon the i3-370m is about the best CPU in this price range.

It's a good price - but if you can wait three months, prices will plummet as the next generation of iPads and Android pads steal much of the laptop market

I like a guy who has no clue, but gives an opinion anyway ;o) - and the key part of my comment was the Android bit; most people have more sense than money, and won't touch iPad.

But don't take my word for it, go checkout the sales figures for laptops, notebooks and ipads, and take a look at Android 3.0. it isn't just fashionistas, you can already by a 'slate' for £100, and soon you'll be able to buy one for little more than that and have much more than a laptop.

Sure, laptops won't be extinct - but their market will shrink amazingly. So there'll be bargains.

But then, I guess you still reckon Betamax is the Bees Knees - they were Toshiba, too.

Can't argue with your opinion on ipads as thats one still to be determined, but...
It was "Hello Tosh, got a Toshiba" not "Hey, Tosh, got a Toshiba"
Betamax was Sony, not Toshiba.

I ordered ordered mine last night for collection next week before the £40 drop. I've just called Tesco CS and they'll refund the difference. Nice one Tesco!

That's not true. This laptop has a Core i3 350M processor. http://www.cpubenchmark.net gives that 2,057 points making it a "high mid range CPU", better than Pentiums and much better than Celerons.

It's a shame this only has 2GB RAM however, meaning most people would want to upgrade it I suspect.
#33
I've already ordered the Dell 1545 4GB which I am due to pick up later. I was torn between this and the Dell initially and at this price they work out the same.
Not being that clued up on laptops can anyone suggest which is the better buy, would just be using it for internet browsing, emails, and basic office use etc.

Where was this from? Anyone found a better deal on RAM to upgrade this?
#35
Wow! Thanks OP ordered for collection at store and 3% quidco (hopefully will track). I think this is fab, deal the i3-370m has a benchmark of 2228 I was tempted by the DELL pentiums on offer but expired now but this with this price drop to £319 this has to be a steal. I think this was over 400 quid before Christmas. Then there are the Toshiba promotion goodies :) It needs more RAM of course.

Oh - ipads are way cool, but I dont think Apple or Android devices are killing the laptop market any time soon.

£319 is an absolute steal for this unit - mine cost me £40 more (picked it up a day before the drop!) but even then I'm still impressed for the price. All setup now so reluctant to return/reorder.

walke_mr: This is what I bought from http://www.crucial.com/uk
CT1625422 2GB, 204-pin SODIMM Upgrade for a Toshiba Satellite C660-11H System
£13.99 + VAT = £16.78, less £1.26 quidco = £15.52. Free delivery.

I've never had a problem with crucial memory and it's guaranteed by them to work with your machine. Can't ask fairer than that.
#38
This is so cool! I have been tempted to buy this when it was at 359. Now, the i3 processor is for 319.2 (+ 5 for signed delivered)!

Great deal, since I just rang the Toshiba helpline to clarify some sepcifications with a new Toshiba L500 I was looking at from Sainsbury I think, and my budget is under 400, and the say "that this comp is now discontinued and you're better off with a newer C650/C660 series, but no way to get a i3 processor for 400!" So guess what, I just got it for 325! Beat that!

And don't forget the movie ticket deal that I think ends Feb, was told that the tickets worth nearly 180! So literally I got it for...hmmm...say 145! Oh my god! Still can't believe I got this deal!!!

ps, is it worth it to upgrade the RAM? Not very familiar with computers anyway, but I normally use it to download things, serf the internect, watch movies and thinking of hooking the monitor up with a exteral card to the PS3 since my TV is broken. If so, how much do I need to up grade it to? It is 2GB at the moment, if I buy a 4GB, will it add to the RAM to 6GB or replace the excisting RAM to 4GB?

Thanks a lot for sharing everyone!!!!
#39
Great price! Any idea whether this purchase qualifies for Quidco/TCB cashback?!

Read the previous comments in the thread...and I assume it is applicable.
