Toshiba L300 15" laptop - £250.00 @ Bargain Crazy

A laptop at the cost of a netbook !!!

I think this is a decent laptop for some one who just needs to browse and watch movies from the internet (not HD).

It is dual core, 160GB, 2GB ram ...

Only drawback I see is Vista. But you can download Win 7 from the internet.

Also 3% quidco.

If you trade in your existing laptop through toshiba-trade-in then you could be looking at a evern better bargain here.. A laptop for £150 (if say you push off your existing one for £100).

Please dont vote cold as this is not suitable for gaming / does not have HDMI etc !!!

.. I bet if someone advertised a good deal on coffee, your contribution to the discussion would be, "would rather have tea" :p

Anyway .. this is a VERY good deal for a full sized laptop, dual core and a decent amount of RAM! Heat added!

Would recommend if people just want to browse the internet and watch movies they look at a HP Mini 311C (netbook with ION). its the same price.. smaller.. battery will last longer.. (ok no CD/DVD drive, but come on, how often do you use one now?)
#7
buy it if you need it , rock solid laptops from toshiba! ! ! ! ! !

We have a couple of netbooks and a couple of laptops. The only time the netbooks get used is either when we're going away or when the laptops aren't available for some reason. Personally, I can't see the point of netbooks due to their poor screen size.

So, heat from me

Honestly, If I ever see a Celeron again on these cheap laptop deals! I wouldn't even give my grandma a Celeron laptop as she would complain its too slow. PLEASE PEOPLE go for a PENTIUM DUAL CORE, CORE 2 DUO or I3/5! Anything(mostly) is better than the Celeron trash. If you want to use the internet get a processor that can handle antivirus, google desktop, flash, java, adobe reader all running in the background that I know you all have! Try running itunes, surfing the web at the same time...it's guna die and you'll get peed off with the speed. Ok that's my peace. Phew!

That might be true of the old Celerons, but, the Celeron T1600 is just a cut down Pentium Dual Core (in the same way the Pentium Dual Core is a cut down Core 2 Duo). It's missing a bit of cache and that's more or less the only difference, bar maybe a few extra features that don't affect performance (no speedstep etc... so not so great power management).

That said, not a fan of the deal. It's an old laptop at a clearance price.

Hi Guys,
what is the speed like is it near 2.0 ghz, I want to know as I am particular about speed
#19
As tickedon said, Celeron is just a brand of Intel CPUs and it's naive and wrong to right the whole range off, each model various and many are better than older CPUs with the Pentium or Core name!

good deal...

HD video should be fine on this

I know im coming back in late.. the HP 311c netbook has a 11.6 inch screen.. which starts to bring it into the useable size. The reason I use a netbook is, when im in a data center working on our servers, or in a school which we support having to carry a 15/17" laptop around is a ball ache. Its to heavy and you feel it very quickly, where as a notebook I can carry all day, the battery lasts the day, and its still powerful enough to do all the jobs I need it to do.

Yup. Celeron is just a brand name, just because people have been familiar with the Celeron name for several years doesn't mean the chips are several years old. A modern celeron will totally destroy the performance of an Atom.

Why? Will make no difference for its intended use: Skype. Are you the type who is duped into buying 10 megapixel cameras which have crappy lenses which can't resolve the images and which degenerate into a mush of noise in anything less than full sunlight? But hey, they're 10MP so they MUST be better...

Bloody hell got all the way to the payment screen and then told me it was out of stock !

i have one with very similar spec to this, with 3gb ram, and its amazingly fast. Maybe you're just a techie who gets kicks off names, specs and numbers rather than what things are in real life. Its more than adequate. And please, you could give your grandma a bag of ****, it would be about the same amount of use to her as a laptop is

Most people are gonna run Windows on these so the comments that it may be slow are valid, but some of us would immediately wipe this anyway and run something much leaner. For Ubuntu or mostly any other Linux distro this would be fine for mostly general usage and word processing. Microsoft constantly work to ensure that the consumer is forced to upgrade their hardware frequently to run their OS, but its simply not necessary.

Why would it be in Microsoft's interests to force you to upgrade hardware?

These netbooks are **** off a shovel when used for word processing or the internet.
They run everything most people need very fast indeed.
They don't do full HD is a frequent argument, they don't have an HD screen either so what's all the fuss about.

The majority of modern netbooks are not slow, the BBC website takes two to three seconds to load on my MSI U130.
Word takes about five seconds.
iPlayer runs flawlessly.
Spotify runs flawlessly and outputs to my LCD TV.
iTunes runs flawlessly.
etc... etc... etc...

Endless rubbish from some people who quite clearly don't own a netbook, with a constant focus on what they can't do.
What many people need is a laptop at around twice the price but they expect a netbook to do it instead.

Unrealistic expectations...
