£299.99 brand new at Argos

Often wondered what 'refurbished' actually means, do they just give it a good clean and change the SDD?
If it's a year old or so then all the other parts must have been subject to whatever the last owner did to them. Could have been heavily used for video processing and the processor may be on it's last legs.

in argos case, probably customer return or damaged box/scratch dent.

price reduced twice in eight days. still 208 in stock so will wait.

Seems like a good price for the spec; I however am holding out for a laptop with 1080p resolution with at least an i3 processor. Anyone know of any good deals on laptops with that spec?

Since when has a CPU ever failed from use. It has no moving parts and so long as it is not physically damaged it'll continue working long after all the other components of the laptop fail e.g. screen/keyboard/hdd.

299 brand new at argos down from 449.

I got a Toshiba C50 i3 4GB 1TB for about the same price in Mar14 - that deal got scortching and I think that was a 3rd gen i3.

I could do with a cheapish laptop for the kids.....why all the cold votes.

Refurbished from Argos means pretty much as new in my experience......boxes arrive battered as hell but the insides are as new.....you dont get 208 units on their last legs...they are either cust returns or offloading stock ahead of new model imo.

Anyone know the difference between the C50 and L50
#12
oh yeah and you can return at Argos cost I believe if you are not happy

I assumed 'M' is newer than the 'L' but they're both are identical spec wise.

Looking at the Argos ebay store - they aso have the C50 i3 for £250 - not as descriptive on the ebay page but I think it looks like this one?

http://www.toshiba.co.uk/laptops/satellite/c50/satellite-c50-a-1dv/

The main differences according to Toshiba compare page

L50 vs C50
4th generation Intel® Core™ i3-4005U processor vs 3rd generation Intel® Core™ i3-3110M
clock speed : 1.70 GHz vs clock speed : 2.40 GHz
CPU passmark 2504 / Rank 741 vs CPU Passmark 3061 / Rank 598

Glossy black finish vs Matt black finish

(15.6”)TruBrite® HD TFT High Brightness vs (15.6”)Toshiba HD non-reflective High Brightness

Intel® HD Graphics 4400 vs Graphics adaptor Intel® HD Graphics 4000

Batter maximum life : up to 6h00min (Mobile Mark™ 2012) vs Battery maximum life : up to 4h00min

Wireless Technology : Bluetooth® 4.0 + LE, Wireless LAN VS unlisted for C50

I am almost sold on the L50 - but that CPU perf puts me off a bit......rang 598 vs 741 seems rather big

Has anyone used this? How is it for day to day work/browsing?

I had a toshiba laptop in the past and the power input bit was at an awkward location and snapped off from the motherboard after a little bump with the charger still plugged in. Where is the adapter input on this laptop?

Argos use D&J Henry as refurbishers and this can mean the laptop is in good condition or screwed. What it means in terms of Argos refurbs is that it can have a genuine fault that hasn't been repaired and sold on or a customer was dumb or otherwise needed to return it in full working order. If you get one in full working order then it will be ok usually if not it will have the fault the customer returned it for and you'll be lumbered with that fault and have to return it. If there's anyone here that works for D&J Henry they can try and correct me on that, if their practice has changed but that's my experience on over 100 units. I work for a very experience computer/IT refurbisher.

I haven't found any evidence that DJ Henry are a dishonourable company and from what I read they are a decent company to deal with, however I have plenty of evidence (as in what I've experienced) they haven't checked items properly or they've been missed for some reason. So it's not my intention to put down any company, just that from my experience you could end up with a unit that is faulty and will need to be returned under warranty.

What,just like that?

The performance of the CPU in this deal is around the same as a first gen i5, absolutely nothing spectacular at all. However more than good enough for most people and it should have decent battery life.

Last refurb I got from them was perfect... until I played some audio - the speakers were blown.

Do they roll back all the activation/software/registration to 'as new' or is it in the name of the person who first brought it?

Not surprised I've had broken LCDs, broken audio, broken DVD drive, failed HDD/ HDD with multiple bad sectors and broken touchpads. I'd say one or two out of ten is like this, hard to be precise but it tells me the refurbisher isn't doing a thorough job.

Should not be resold with anyone else's data as this quite possibly breaches data protection legistration. A reseller is responsible for the existing users data on any unit sold and should do a full free space data wipe to ensure data protection. I haven't tested this on any unit from Argos, just done free space wipe anyway as a precaution.

The difference between the L series and the C series assuming like for like specs is the build quality. The C series is ugly, cheap and plasticky and the Ls are prettier and sturdier. I bought one of these for my wife (at £350 :'( ) with that in mind.

Been looking for a laptop for my son for gaming. He loves minecraft but some laptops lag and the graphics no good for minecraft. Will this one be any good?

£280 two weeks ago. I bought one and very impressed with the build quality and seems very quick. Very slim too with a very responsive touch type keyboard

Colour is minging probably why it's cheaper than the black one. Decent spec though :-)
#37
Oh dear, Mine has arrived but had a dead pixel on the screen. Good customer service re arranging replacement but I have to stay in all day tomorrow to wait for courier!
#38
Mine arrived today also, wifi not working and scratches on the case gonna return it for a refund I think
#39
I think it's a bit of a lucky draw. I ordered one for my sister and got it today in the original box, manual, warranty card and charger. The colour is actually pretty nice and slightly lighter then the picture shows, but would say more for the ladies (sorry if sounds sexist). The build quality is very nice and doesn't feel cheap at all and definitely worth the price rather then getting a similar priced celeron processor.

Having checked the laptop over i have found no dead pixels, WiFi working perfect, skullcandy speakers working great and totally unmarked.

My one question, how do u remove the battery as there doesn't seem to be the usual battery slide clips to release it?

anyone know if it will play sims 4?
