A good price for 500gb if your looking to upgrade your ps3 hdd.

Upgrade your PS3's hard drive:
It is automatically recognised and configured when you swap this with your PS3's internal drive

The super-quiet and durable MK5055GSX is targeted for integration into notebook PCs, sub-notebooks, small form factor and energy star PCs, game consoles, printers and external storage devices.

This new family raises the bar in acoustic performance for mainstream high-capacity HDDs. Advanced servo techniques combined with mechanical design changes minimize noise emanating from the MKxx55GSX drives, making them nearly inaudible during operation, with some models performing close to the threshold of human hearing.

The new MK5055GSX reflects Toshiba's ongoing commitment to enhance the environmental soundness of its products by discontinuing use of certain chemical substances and reducing carbon dioxide emissions during operation for each successive HDD generation. Toshiba has eliminated specified hazardous halogens and toxic chemicals such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), brominated flame retardants (BFR), antinomy trioxide and red phosphorus across all components incorporated in the drive.

you would think right and that speed is fine :)

yes the average is 5400, but quality laptop will be equipped with 7200, as they use almost the same power but much better performance..

Ordered. I have had an enclosure for a 2.5" drive for about a year sat in a draw I got cheap from Amazon. About time I got a drive for it lol. I will back up my entire laptop, wipe the drive and stick Windows 7 on it :)

Thanks op.

If the drive is faulty after the 1 year and Toshiba ignore your RMA requests (or any other manufacturer) you can go to the store you bought it from and get them to give you a replacement under the sale of goods act. (if you explain to them toshiba are ignoring you then you have a very good argument to get the store to deal with it).

Apart from Play.Com are an offshore dealer (based in Jersey) and as a result they shun the whole SOGA.

Do we need to have PS3 compatible in every single 2.5" drive thread?
#18

and also this is perfect, I was looking to build a 500GB 2.5 hard drive and this is great

I don't think they are, there is a maximum height specification for the 2.5" drive, and as far as I am aware the reason faster rpm drives are not recommended is because of heat.

No we don't but i only put it in the title cos i copy and pasted the whole title from play.com. As for the drive itself it has good reviews on amazon and it seems a very good price.

The PS3 compatible in the title is valid, there's two main sizes in terms of drive width with 2.5" drives, 12mm and 9.5mm, only 9.5mm fit in a PS3.

Do you need to type it at all?

If it bothers you just move on!

WHAT FISHMASTER SAID IS 1000% CORRECT. FOR £50 THERE IS A WESTERN DIGITAL ONE THATS CHEAPER THAN THE NEWER TOSHIBA. ALSO IN THE DESCRIPTION IT SAYS 3 YEAR WARRANTY, HENCE THE ONLY REASON I ORDERED THIS.

In regards to Warranty, you will have to send it to Toshiba centre in Germany in case something goes wrong. Of course you need to pay the postage to send. After 3-4 weeks, they will send you replacement one. 5400rpm is ideal for most laptop especially ultra portable ones because 7200rpm drives generally tend to use more power. So shorter battery life but it will run noticeably run faster.

I'm glad when posters put PS3 compatible in the title because im on the hunt for one . Keep on doing it in fact when normal incompatible hard drives are posted please type NOT PS3 Compatible so it winds people up even more !

The Sales of Goods Act (SOGA) is not just some random thing where after one year you can take a product back and demand a refund or replacement. You have to prove the product had a inherent fault from date of purchase, not something that is quite easy.
