Great deal, bit expensive on postage, however really good for those that have a Morgan Computers near them.

PS you need to change the write up, its mentioning Amazon!

Sounds good deal

LOL!....in fairness to the original poster he listed this, but its not allowed because its a marketplace seller on Amazon, those deals are not allowed.

I told the OP to post the deal from Morgans because it is allowed, if you have got a Morgan Computers store nearby, its a good deal still. But its one of those cant win situations on HUKD!

If you looked carefully you'd notice that it is being sold by a marketplace seller, the equivalent of a 'Buy It Now' deal on eBay, where condition and quantity can greatly vary.

reviews say this is a good product

but only for windows XP

A sound deal tbh

I bought one of these a while ago for use with my last PC, an ultra slim HP jobby.

Worked a dream, I used it to hook my 5.1 surround sound up as the ultra slim PC was very limited for space with regards to internal cards.

I bought mine for around £25 iirc and that was re-conditioned! Therefore a very good price, voted hot :)

Whats with the ethernet port? How can this port be used?
#10
Would this be a decent sound card for using cubase with? I just need something basic, but with a low latency. My old motherboards onboard sound had very little latency, and when I got a new motherboard, I forgot to check how good the latency was...when I tried to record something I was always about half a second out of time!

So yeah, cubase? anyone? I don't need anything very exciting, and I'm not building a home studio, its just for ideas.

My wife's network card stopped working so we had to use this option.
You connect the sound center to the PC by USB as normal and then the network cable to the sound center and it is the same as using an external USB modem.

Seems to work fine with no significant loss in performance but can't see why you would chose to do it if you have a network card already installed.
#12
Hmm this could be an ideal docking station type thing for my laptop. Although comments on the page linked do say the speed of the USB will be crippled if used for kb + mouse too which might be an issue..
If nothing else it would move my soundcard outputs away from the front of the laptop! although there are cheaper solutions for that issue I suppose..

Are there Vista drivers available for this as it says it doesn't come with them.
#13
I take it this wouldn't work for a mac then? :(

Has comments on Vista.
A lot of Morgan Computers junk is outdated, that's why they are selling it off :-(

Apart from that, they are a lousy company, best avoided :-(

Think that comment on Morgan Computers is a little harsh. The retail of outdated stock is to be fair their business model. So long as you know what you are buying there are good deals to be had.
Also, last week, the London shop has these Toshibas at £11:99

They messed up my second and last purchase from them: Call them, and it is like ringing a pre-school playgroup, they have no idea what you are on about, no system, no method of sorting anything out! I ended up with a filler item delivered with an inflated postage cost. They behaved like buffoons, but I was the idiot for ordering there in the first place :-(

If you have problems BUYING from a company, then just imagine what it will be like if you actually have a problem with that purchase!

The marketplace seller on Amazon is Xsonly which is a division of Morgans (just googled xsonly).

If you go to the Amazon link and read one of the user's comment, it suppose to work with the MacBook Pro, dunno much about Mac, so you can check out if your's do work.

Of course, except when it is outdated and DOESN'T do the job due to lack of support and drivers! :-(

ironically, the amazon deal is half the cost and I just recieved confirmation of shippment from the vendor - Morgan Computers!! - seems they the people flogging them on amazon for even less!! :)

If you connect this to router and stereo, can you play music from laptop to the stereo via wireless network? :?

I very much doubt it. I think this needs to be physically connected to the laptop/PC and cannot perform on it's own just connected to a wireless router.

I can soon let you know when mine arrives! yay another gadget

I ordered this using the amazon route. Placed order on 9th and it was delivered on the 11th, so an excellent response.

I have connected this to a system with Ubuntu (8.04) and It really was just a plug in and play. Have not tried to do anything fancy yet, but very pleased with it so far.

yep - my amazon one arrived this morning - all brand new (utterly pointless manual in box!!) :)

Yes, I got mine today too. Great piece of kit but I can't believe the size of the so called manual. That has to be the most pointless manual ever!

anyone else having trouble with the XP USB to Lan driver? I cant find it and device manager is being a pain about it....
#31
ordered yesterday and arrived today. Works with Vista, you loose functionality of the remote control and the Toshiba multimedia center software though using it in Vista.

I just wanted it as a sound card though for recording from my mixer, my laptop sound card is not that great and cant handle recording from my mixer but this does the job perfect. Bargain for £10.98.

Got it working in Vista - I can't promise these steps are right as it did involve a lot of messing about.

You might not need this step - Installed the Creative Media Source Program, Toshiba software will not install (we expected that)

Download and install the OpenAl program from creative at the bottom of the page
http://www.soundblaster.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=206&product=10702

Follw the instructions below from the Toshiba forums to install a soundblaster driver

I successfully managed to install drivers from creative Sound blaster External 24 bit.
-download driver for vista for the creative (I think that toshiba rebrands creative product)
-open the .exe with winzip or something
-save the directory tree somewhere
-edit the .inf in drivers\i386\win2k, changing every occourence of 3040 in 3048

If all has gone well in device manager you will now have the Soundblaster 24bit external usb device showing. In the audio settings (contorl panel / audio) you should also have listed the spdif interface.

The mute button appears to be working on the device (and via the remote) as well as the volume control.

I have not fully tested 5.1 and indeed it may not be working properly but left and right certainly work. (Working fine)

Note - Vista was oringinally installing the device as a usb audio device with no additional functionality.

I do seem to have the ethernet working as well, but not sure if this was picked automatically.

Earlier on I also installed the creative audio control panel software via the driver package for the creative x-fi surrround 5.1 (but it did not recongise any devices). I mention in incase the working install has used some of the files (dependant form this)

I would prefer to back track and list exactly what was required but I really do not have the time. Suffice to say - this can work propoerly in Vista.
