Why would you buy this when you can get the AAO for £50 less? Get double the HDD space, better keyboard and massive community support.

Whilst I agree that an Acer (120gb) is probably a better buy some people may want the assurance of buying a top (laptop) brand like Toshiba...........

I had one of these for a month and the hard drive failed it was like pulling teeth trying to get a refund from comet, went through the proper procedure phoned toshiba, went to store with the authorisation code. Comet then told me they needed a copy of the toshiba tech's report faxed through so they could refund me. Three days of waiting and then the cheeky barstewards asked me if i wanted a replacement or store credit:x got a cash refund eventually after a heated argument instore:thumbsup:

Sorry - My bad, need new glasses! I bagged one of the Asda AAOs with160GB for my daughter, which is definitely a better deal than this.

I would always choose an Acer rather than a Toshiba. Toshiba were the best in the early days of laptops, but for the last few years they have really lost there way. I am not saying that they don't produce some good laptops, but they have made more than their fair share of lemons. Several series suffered major design faults that lead to overheating. Well documented, and I personally have seen many examples.

Neither Acer nor Toshiba are the top of the pile but Acer certainly rank higher than Toshiba for reliability, certainly from my experience fo 50+ machines.

Not saying this one is bad, just that the label is no guarantee that it is good.

70% of the international netbook market says otherwise.

Had the same problem with a Acer laptop went to get it exchanged they made me go home, call acer, get a autorization code (which was a job) then come back.
The lady then called acer and made me wait in store for about a hour while she called acer (she could of dont that in the first place)
She then told me i could only get a exchange or store credit. No chance after there shocking customer service.
Eventually got a refund and will never buy anything from them again.

the battery life seems a little better on the toshiba, not massively so. Most reviewers seem to be putting the battery at about 3.5 hours on the whereas it seems to be under 3 on the acer.
Also the Toshiba has a Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 1.83 GHz Processor rather than the atom which the acer has. This seems like an odd choice however as this is not a low power processor like the atom is. This is a better processor but then the whole point of these netbooks is the 'fast enough' approach to computing. This is a full desktop processor not a lightweight mobile processor. I guess it is up to you to decide if this is a + or a - for the computer.
Also the toshiba has a HDD rather than an SSD, this gives 80gb of space but again this is more of a full laptop feature than a mobile computing feature.

I dont think the acer does have that CPU!!

Never mind forget that, that review I just read was obviously a load of ****. They both have 1.6Ghz atoms. My point about the hdd still stands though . You should probably disregard what I said about the battery too.

I got comet to price match the acer pricelist of SRP £199 for the 120Gb HDD 1Gb mem Aspire One that they sell for £229 normally.

http://www.acer.co.uk/acer/wr-resource/758494341/upload/pent1/3/Netbooks.pdf

The 120Gb HDD / 1Gb model comet sell is the LU.S050A.074

So Aspire has 50% more disc space and twice as much memory (for those wanting to put MS os'es on it) for the same price.

I posted the same Toshiba with XP 1Gb Ram 120harddrive .... for about £220... and it never got any heat. I don't understand how how XP, more RAM, more harddrive can not worth £20 and a litttle more heat

agree its a good deal. However Comet are v tricky to deal with if anything goes wrong. I bought a tv for £400 pounds, which for some mysterious reason keeps switching itself off. I took it back 2 days later, and would they refund me, or exchange me? Would they heck. they insisted they sent an engineer out. an hour later of tusseling, they still refused and said the first option is always an engineer. I pointed out sales of goods act etc, but they totally ignored this.
Honestly, i would never buy anything from comet, no matter how attractive the deal, just in case the item i purchased was faulty.

I have been waiting for a good deal on a netbook. Missed the ASDA deal. This one sounds like a good deal. But after hearing these horror stories about Comet, I would prefer to stay away from them.

Afterall the whole point of getting from a nearest store is, you can take it back to them if something goes wrong. I still dont understand the whole point of Comet opening these huge stores, when they cant afford to give good cutomer service.
