I have the Toshiba 37X3030D, this is a slight upgrade I think which is a stonking deal. When I compared this to the 37" Samsung (1920x1080) model the picture seemed sharper with less ghosting, but the blacks weren'y quite as dark as the Samsung.

Fantastic Deal IMO

Last night I told my housemates I was considering buying a new, huge TV for the living room so we can use it to watch the new series of Doctor Who and the Grand Prix at the weekends. Today at least 3 excellent TV deals appear on this site. Is this a sign?
#10
I agree with you there reddragon105, I to am looking for a new TV, the deals on here today have been ace.

I think I like the Toshiba more.
#11
Great find! thanks

Go for the Toshiba all the way. Better contrast, and much better SD images. Not sure on the ghosting but the Tosh V series is a lot newer than the ageing Samsung M87.

Good point. He's prob assuming because its latest hardware it should improve on what's been before...

just to add to this , i have previously owned the 37x3030d , then that was changed for the 42x3030d , what i would say is that the sd picture on the 37 was far superior to the 42 , and also on this note we was wrongly supplied with the award winning panasonic lzd and that was just aweful for sd pic , so if improvements have been made to this from the x series then surely the sd pic would be expected to be impressive.
#17
Is that contrast ratio correct? On the 37x3030 it's quoted as 3500:1, and, whilst the pictures look very good the colours don't blend into each other brilliantly (you can see bands of colours in skies for example - rather than a smooth blended blue). Maybe this new model improves on this.

Wish I'd waited for this now as I bought my 37x3030 at start of Feb for £670 :(
banned#18
Its the correct ratio according to Toshiba. All the new models in the new Toshiba range have hugely inflated contrast ratios (when compared with the spec of their outgoing models)
#19
Looks like a good deal to me, although I might wait to see how good the SD quality is though before buying. Heat & Rep added :)

I've got money, but still not sure about this. Seems to be a good deal, only need to forse myself to pay for it ;)

Hi
Anyone know the difference between this Toshiba 37XV503DB and the Toshiba 37XV505D?
The latter one appears on the Toshiba web site but the one from Play does not. Both say they are the latest model.:?

I was reading about this yesterday on avforums and it seems they are the same set but for some reason retailers have been given a different model number. And yes, it does sound daft!

Toshiba have said that the internals of both sets are exactly the same. From pictures I've seen also there seems to be very little difference in the exterior either, possible slightly different colours and a different bezel at the bottom.
Online retailers are going to be selling the 503 and stores and going to be selling the 505. This tends to happen because retailers try to get out of price matching due to the sets not being 'exactly' the same.

I'm waiting for some sort of review before I purchase. As for the short term it will be running Sky SD it will have to perform reasonably before I will splash my cash lol

Hope that helps

Thanks to Spuddyboy & pgw83 for the clarification.

Updated price in OP to exclude cashback,.. we usually don't include that in the price shown. Thanks.

Seems like a great deal...imo, Toshiba provide the best value for money when considering LCD TVs. Still, it would have been nice to read some first-hand reviews of the functionality of this particular model.
#30
Any idea on the response time for this TV? I'd kinda like to use it for gaming, but I've seen some 100hz Samsungs that might be better for that...
#31
Only a minor thing, but be aware that because of the very slim frame on these Toshiba's it will look like a 32" LCD when you see it. If you got a John Lewis store near you they have the 40" model and you will see what I mean.
#32
As long as there is no conrner bleed it will look good with a thin bezel. Be aware there is a possibility this TV is silver/grey rather than black.
#33
Well after months of searching I finally went for this deal. IMO Toshiba's are the best value out there and considering I was about to go for the 37x3030 for £600 this is a great deal. I know there are no reviews yet, but I have viewed and reviewed the 42x3030 and 37x3030 extensively and been very impressed, so can't imagine this would be anything but a step up.

Samsung M models are ageing a bit, plus Sony's are still a bit expensive.

Great find, Heat and rep added.

Just cancelled my pre-order for the 37XV503DB with Play.com.

I don't want the TV now as this is the "online" version with a silver surround.

Most will be looking for an all black cabinet .. surely!

Don't forget .. we have yet to see a high street price for the all black 37XV505DB model.

Anyway, with the UK economic outlook not looking so bright .. it won't be long until John Lewis have the all black 37XV505DB version in stock with the free 5 year guarantee at a good price.

Toshiba will be keen to push these new UK assembled models .. and market forces will see the price tumble very quickly IMO.

Couldn't resist. Both me and my gf wanted LCD telly for our PS3 and HD receiver, so ordered one.
Thanks!

From what i've read on AVForums, the only difference is the stand colour, not the colour of the surround.

The stand on the 503 is silver and the stand on the 505 is black.

Hope that helps

The M87/88 is quite an old model now. There have been quite a few faults found with it. Most seem to have been ironed out with firmware upgrades but not all of them, plus firmware upgrades need to be done by engineeers.

The Toshiba is obviously a new model, so you don't know what faults if any it will have. The previous X series models have been very good TVs, so one would only expect that same from the XVs. But you cannot guarantee.

I'm personally going to wait until I see a review of the Toshiba and then make up my mind

R u saying that John Lewis have the Toshiba 40XV505DB in stores now? If so, I'm surprised there are not more reviews of this particular LCD on the Net.

I'm was really close to taking the plunge and pre-ordering this TV but with no reviews accessible, I think it's far too great a risk. Any there any other 37" LCD TVs with 1080p functionality that people can recommend? Furthermore, am I right in assuming that one can only reap the benefits of 1080p when considering LCD TVs of size 37" or higher?

37XV503DB is now listed at £640 at amazon. you can see the 503 model has silver stand and bottom trim much better in amazon's photos.
