Great price for a 42" Full HD LCD, 4 HDMI's & Resolution + (to enhance SD to near HD quality) in stock on August 28th, free delivery, (same price @ Dixons if you prefer)

The REGZA AV63 series combines HD Ready picture processing with a stylish contemporary black high gloss design. All Regza AV63s feature Resolution+ technology which enhances standard definition content to virtually high definition quality. The AutoView function is able to adapt to the lighting conditions in the room and analyses the content on screen, automatically and instantaneously providing optimal picture settings at all times. The AV61 series boasts a contemporary black gloss finish, with narrow bezels and new slim speakers. The stylish design hides a wealth of technology, including 4 x HDMI slots, a PC Input connection and powerful audio performance from the integrated stereo speakers
Digital TV
Between now and the end of 2012 the UK will be turning off all old analogue TV transmitters and switching your TV signal to digital. When the digital switch happens in your area, your older analogue TVs will no longer be able to pick up a signal. To keep your normal TV service running, you will need to convert your TVs to digital before your areas switchover date.

Switching your home to digital is easy. All you need to do is purchase digital tuner and connect it to your analogue TV or alternatively, you can replace it with a new digital TV.

All Toshiba TVs carry the Digital Tick and come with Freeview built-in, making them the ideal option for preparing your home for the digital switch.

Resolution+
Toshibas unique Resolution+ upscaling technology takes everyday standard definition content and instantly improves edge detail and texture, enhancing it to virtually high definition picture quality.

With Resolution+, your 1080p Toshiba LCD TV will produce near HD picture quality on all standard definition TV, DVD and downloaded content you watch while still delivering the most pure and stunning picture quality possible from all high definition sources.

Watch as your favourite movies, programmes and games become clearer, richer and sharper than ever before.

AutoView
Toshibas unique technology that automatically adjusts picture settings depending on not only the room lighting, which is common feature on quality LCD TVs these days, but also the content shown on screen. The technology eliminates the need to constantly have to adjust the backlight brightness and colour settings in order to find the best viewing experience in all environments.

AutoView means that your REGZA LCD TV will be performing to its full potential, delivering the best possible picture quality at all times.

Active Vision II
Active Vision II is our acclaimed high performance picture processing system. It has been designed to produce high quality, high definition images by enhancing core elements of a television picture:

Detail: Images are now spread over a larger number of smaller pixels compared to a conventional LCD TV. This allows highly detailed images to be produced far more accurately across all colour tones.

Colour: Active Vision reproduces colours with more tones than conventional LCD televisions, producing images with reduced banding for a smoother, more realistic colour progression.

Movement: Picture sharpness in fast moving scenes is increased, with a reduction in the jagged edges often seen on lines and fine detail.

Contrast: The monitoring and adjustment of contrast enhances detail and increases the ability of the television to represent subtle shade changes.

Game Mode
An exciting new feature for the gamers amongst you - Game Mode. This feature bypasses much of the picture processing technology required to enhance TV programmes and films, resulting in an improved response time and screen refresh rate.

Game Mode is compatible with any HDMI equipped games console and automatically adjusts the picture to deliver a more realistic game setting and importantly 1:1 pixel mapping. This allows every last detail of the original image to be shown without cropping the edges; giving the online gamer a distinct advantage over opponents without a dedicated Game Mode.

Full Power Down
We have fitted an On/Off switch in response to the concerns expressed by many consumers who would prefer to turn their television off completely.
All models are extremely energy efficient, but we take our responsibility to the environment seriously and will always do everything we can to minimise the impact our products have on our surroundings.

HDMI
Put simply, HDMI is the new industry standard for the connection of home entertainment equipment.

High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) connections between TV, DVD and other digital equipment are gradually replacing older SCART connections and make it possible to deliver high definition pictures and sound to your HD Ready TV.

The REGZA AV63 Series has 4 HDMI connections, making it possible to connect 3 HD sources (satellite -TV, DVD, games consoles etc) to your TV at any one time.

(to enhance SD to near HD quality)

Please dont post crap. You can't make pixels from nowhere, you can't 'enhance' SD to anything like HD quality.

Yes you can, it's called interpolation!

you can't 'enhance' SD to anything like HD quality

Partially true. You certainly can't make SD into full HD, but you can, by interpolation, improve the SD video to make it look better at HD resolution.

It doesn't look like it.

I know the 42XV635 and 42ZV635 will allow DivX / Xvid / DivX VOD through the USB port (as I have the 42XV635) but looking at the AV manual it doesn't seem to have this facility.

http://www.home-entertainment.toshiba.co.uk/upload/BrochuresAndManuals/Manuals/AV635.pdf

But ............ the quality of the playback on the USB with XVid on the XV635 while good isn't actually any better (maybe even worse) than putting it through my cheapo DVD player with a USB connector on the front for DivX. Using my Xbox (old one - not 360) with XBMC gives a better picture yet.

I've not been able to get my Toshiba XV to play Mpeg files - only DivX and XVid files.

Hope that helps

Quoted for truth.

Anarchist, I suggest you get a clue

Looks good but why are all manufacturers dropping PIP (picture in picture). Does anyone know of a similar spec machine that does have PIP. So far I have sent 2 tvs back because the shops claimed it had. This would have been prefect. Heat added
#15
At a guess - PIP needs two tuners.

It could get away with one tuner if all the programs were sent via one transport stream but as the UK uses 4 or 5 transport streams you'd have to have a second tuner to display the PIP on a seperate stream to the one you were viewing.

But thats just a guess ;)

Well he may not have put it too well, but the original statement was questionable:

"(to enhance SD to near HD quality)"

Are they saying its got one of the best upscalars on the market?

Well if you look at the link to the manual I posted earlier you will see it supports 1080P via HDMI at the full resolution of 1920 x 1080

If you look at the Toshiba website you will see it has a native resolution of:

Resolution: 1920 x 1080p

The highest definition signal currently available carries which 1080 horizontal lines of information progressivvely scanned to create a high definition image (1920 x 1080).

In fact - have a read for yourself ;)

Well they are essentially the same things, aside from the marketing and stickers

The HD Ready label came first. They then started splitting it into HD Ready (720p) and HD Ready 1080p as more 1080 sets came on the market. More recently the industry has been trying to push 1080p sets, and so to more clearly differentiate them FULL HD label has come about.

But for all intensive purposes its just another name for HD Ready 1080p.

My Regza has just developed a vertical banding fault after 6 weeks, I've contacted them and they said that they will be collecting it for repair in 2 days.

It's still a bit woeful though.

Was it the AV / XV / RV or ZV ?
#23
It is an XV.
#24
Bummer :whistling: I've got one of those now lmao
#25
It might be a one off mate, I can't find similar reports of any related issue online.
#26
I did read reports of banding on the early models caused by overtightening of the screen at the back but that was on some older models and many moons ago.
