i think its the cheapest core 2 duo notebook in uk. the only downside is that it has a combo cdrw/dvd. and if you go and check on toshiba site you will see that this notebook is eligible for window vista free upgrade.
but still i ordered one yesterday and i am receiving it on thursday. so i will give a update to you guys than.

dont forget 4% quidco which comes to 13.40 and knock down the price to 442 including standard P&P.

savastore points on top of that take effective cost just under 440.

Looks a pretty good deal mate well spotted.

Was just about to post this after i got their email.

This is a really good deal, and the A120 is rock solid on build quality, this is the machine they have the 'money back garantee, if there is a break down in one year'.

As rommy mentioned, the only downside is the lack of a dvdrw drive. Ram isnt really a problem, easy to upgrade and quiet cheap from ebay.

Any upgrade will invalidate Toshiba's warranty and void the break down money back guaruntee

Great find Wordsworth!

I've been holding out virtually since the day after the Tosh for £404 deal closed! This offer is almost as good. Shame about the memory, screen and graphics card!

Since it's Dell change day tomorrow, I think I'm going to risk waiting to see if anything comes of their new offers before I buy this one (hopefully the price of this one won't change in the meantime!).

WOOOOOOOOOOW, this is HOT!!

I posted this deal last week and it was £522!!!! This has come down by £80 in just one week. Absolute bargain mate.

It is a shame there is no DVD writer, or decent graphics card but the price reflects this, so it depends on what you need. BTW we could see prices for core 2 duo machines drop as the 800mhz FSB laptop comes out around March and these hopefully will give the 30% increase in speed over the core duo which the current core 2 duo (with 667mhz FSB) has failed to do (this is according to the tests I have read online).

Does this have the matt screen as opposed to the trubrite one.

Cheers.

Took the Tosh plunge today for the Sat Pro P100-327, from Toshiba themselves.

On my readings I found some nasty comments about Sava.... aftersales service, and their 'not interested in you comments' once they have your money, so that swayed me away from them. Also steered away from PCW/PCWB because they wanted to charge me an extra £13 a month for 'future care' ffs what's that? for 3 years it adds up.

So took Tosh's 1st year for free and an extra 2 years for £90 and after looking at a few problems on Tosh's website about RTB problems I opted for the engineer to come to me and fix it 'there & then' option for the 1st year at £50

So I ended up with 2Mb ram, 17" screen, 200Gb HD, top whack DVD drive etc etc oh and XP Pro, upgradable to Vista Business for free. I know it worked out a few pounds more than this range but I plan for it to last me for the next 4 years without any problems.

Thanks wordsworth for posting this good offer.

VERY nice price:)!!!

you can get an nec 8x dvdwriter for it on scan for about £45 which should hopefully fit, ram is cheap, im actually selling 1gb ddr2 667mhz which also works at 533mhz for £50 delivered if anyone wants that. those would be £95 ontop of this = £545 and you could sell the 512mb on ebay for £25 ish. so in total it would be about £520 ish for a very nice spec laptop.

I've been looking for a laptop for a friend of mine at work & I went into the Toshiba shop in Cheshire Oaks not far from where I live. They had an Equium A100-259 for £429. The spec for that one is:
Processor: Celeron M 380 1.6ghz
Memory:1024mb DDR2
Drive: 60gb
Screen: 15.4" WXGA
Drive: DVD-RW Dual Layer
Graphics: ATI Radion X200 128mb
Wifi: 802.11 b/g
Any idea what is the better laptop?

Thanks

I'd definately go for the original laptop. Purely for the core 2 duo processor over a celeron. Unless you really need a dvd writer in it?

RAM is easy, and the instructions are in the manual check again (i upgraded mine last week).

In any case, just open (1 screw in the middle) back. Slide the Ram in a walah'. It will make more sens after you see it. Really easy i promise you, wont take more then 5 mins.

Make suer you de-static yourself, you dont want to blow the chipset.

Excellent, Thanks for that. All Sorted. It was just a tiny bit in the manual, i was looking for a bit more of a section on it!

Thanks again especially for your prompt reply!

NP, welcome to the forums.
#22
so will upgrading ram void my warranty or not? and can you please tell me of any good deal for the 512mb or 1gb ram suitable for this laptop?
#23
No, ram upgrades do not void the warranty.

In any case you need to send the laptop back for repair, just stick the original ram sticks back in.

I looked at this deal for my brother-in-law and called up Toshiba to check about RAM upgrades and the warranty. They said that "a RAM upgrade will NOT invalidate the warranty as long as you use Toshiba RAM", any other make will invalidate the warranty. Not bad seeing as you can get the Toshiba RAM for this for around the £40 mark for 512MB on savastore itself. http://www.savastore.com/productinfo/product.aspx?catalog_name=Savastore&product_id=10289460&pid=0 The description says it's only 256MB, but title says 512MB and I've got an e-mail from customer services assuring me that it is a 512MB module for product number '10289460'. Good deal as anywhere else is over £50 + delivery.
