Voted hot as the OP did mention the speed and being basic, would suit someone like my elderly dad quite well! :)

Quite a bit slower than, say, the Atom in the Linx 7 tablet, so beware. Wouldn't be a good deal at a higher price, but I think the price is fair.

We have a Toshiba satellite, it was always a really neat little machine.

Watch out, the processor is really bad. Good for basic browsing and document editing but not much else.

Total balderdash! A good job some of you weren't around when the nearest thing we had for a computer was a brain, a pair of hands, a piece of paper, and something to write with. You'd have all been spending your time trying to reboot the pen.
#11
The bad thing about it is that it has only 2GB of RAM. Not good at all.
Windows eats about 1GB of RAM + 800MB if you open 6 tabs in Chrome + RAM consumed by Antivirus.
So, apps will lag. :(
#12
What the hell do you want for less than £150 ? Put another 2Gb of Ram in it and it'll improve, it won't be a flying machine but it'll be fine for general duties.

Windows 8 has AV built in.

So add the cost of 2GB ram... not £150 then..

Spend a tiny bit more on the Dell, new and much faster CPU, something you cant upgrade in this.

Yeah, put Windows 98 on it, Netscape Navigator browser and load it up with some 320*240 avi's, and it will go like the clappers!

2GB of RAM costs peanuts. But with that said, many typical buyers of this laptop won't have the technical knowledge/skills to replace their own RAM.

Perfectly good for many purposes. Mainstream Tosh laptops are well supported by Linux distros, so I am sure that this will do someone a good turn at the price.

I got a fairly basic laptop in 2008 with a pentium chip that has a higher benchmark than this. That laptop also has 2gb RAM and runs Windows Vista and I find it abysmally slow whenever I'm on it now(My parents still use it see) Hard to believe there are still laptops going over six years later that are slower. Its cheap but i'd find it very hard to recommend based on those specs

Not a good deal tbh, got the Dell Inspiron 15 for £170 delivered and its brand new with a lot better spec. Just don't see where the deal is in this for basically a second hand laptop.

100megabit Ethernet. And there was I hoping we were going to leave gigabit behind sometime soon.

Should be ok for just browsing the internet and basic things. Ideal for some one who does not mind how slow it might get now and again.

Yours will be MUCH faster than the one in this deal. Personally, I would rather have the one you bought.

Yes, faster but the two can't be directly compared in terms of speed seeing as this uses a different operating system with windows 8

£189, sign up to Dell VIP (takes 10 seconds) and get 10% off. I actually used a Black Friday 12% off code and bought two for my sons for Christmas and it was £332 for both delivered.

Correct.

Correct.

Very strange, you would expect an optical drive to be a standard feature in all laptops now.
#36
I think the direction is all laptops soon won't have an optical drive. Can't remember the last time I used one but guess different needs for people so maybe a deal breaker.
#37
It all depends on intended purpose

im wondering whether i needed the power of mine , and whether im missing out on windows 8.1

for sure though , i cant see point of it without touchscreen

On the contrary, It's becoming obsolete, like the floppy drive. I can understand why some would like one though, for watching films on discs or something. Personally, I dont own a single cd, dvd or blu ray so have no use for one.

Well, touch screens are being phased out on laptops, so I guess most people think the opposite.

Is that a fact oO
