Toshiba Satellite C855-18D 15.6 inch Laptop (Intel i5-3210m, 6GB, 640HDD - £429.99 @ Amazon!

Fantastic price for this ivybridge, well specc'd laptop. I bought this when it was on a lightening deal for £419.99 and it is a very stable and robust laptop. Stick a SSD in there to make it lightening fast. Yes it has Intel HD4000 Integrated graphics but the newer integrated graphics chips are quite capable.

Don't forget to add the special offer, where you get a FREE Amazonbasics wireless mouse. I got this too and it is a very nice mouse!

I think this was posted a few weeks ago as a lightning deal at ten pounds less. Still, it remains a well configured, nicely balanced laptop from a top brand. Most users won't ever fully stress the capable CPU which is powerful enough to handle virtually anything you throw at it. If I was in the market for a general workhorse laptop I'd place right near the top of the list. Great vfm. Hot.

Decent price for an Ivybridge i5, as topazz says a nicely balanced spec for the price.

Yes. As stated in description I bought it for 10quid less on a lightening deal. However this is still by far the cheapest half decent i5. At this price you can only buy a i5 sandybridge at the moment.

The screen quality is pretty good (I would expect a crappy one at this price) and is free of dead pixels. It also has the newer faster ram compatible with the ivybridge and hdmi and use 3.0 ports. Mine has been running nice and cool with a virtually silent fan. I'm pleased.

I wished it had an ant-glare screen. Is Medion the only brand which offers anti-glare screens in lower spec laptops these days? I just bought a Samsung RV520 with a glossy screen (which will go back). I've never used a glare screen before and it is completely useless. How do people cope with these screens I will never understand. I soppose for night-viewing it would be ok but not at daylight.

I do know what you mean. I have a Samsung i7 Series 7 Laptop for video editing too (which has a matt anti-glare screen) and I was expecting the Toshiba's screen to be rubbish and full of glare. To be honest, the Toshiba screen is bright with good array of colours and contrast. Personally, i've not had any issues with glare or reflection (despite being a glossy screen). The only thing i find is that the resolution is low, but given the price, it doesn't bother me.

Hi bm12 thanks for posting. I've not edited video for some time now and would like to get back into it. Have you done any on this machine? If so what's it like compared to an i7 processor? also what software are you using? Also i've found this laptop I'm temped to buy ah532, the only reason I'd go for the ah532 is coz it has a express 34 slot so I could attached a FireWire card for my Sony dv cam.

No USB 3.0 on that...too much of a sacrifice I think?

Max expandable memory only 8GB, Toshiba will take 16GB plus has USB3.0 slot as stated. Thing is, does anyone who doesn't do games need 16GB RAM?

hi, is there much difference between this and http://www.comet.co.uk/p/Laptops/buy-FUJITSU-AH532-I5-6GB-Laptop/123457 apart from the slightly smaller hard drive?

How do you work that out when Quidco is 1.5%?

Yep I'm thinking the same, would probably go with the Samsung. Though I don't think it's as low as you've mentioned? £399 after the Samsung cashback but quidco only seems to be 1.5% for this type of product.

    good price for the specs

If you can't be bothered waiting for cash back this is a good deal. The lenovo has the exact same spec I think but with 750gb HDD. I bought it 3 weeks ago. £469.99 but £50 cash back making it £420. When I bought it Dabs.com had 25 quid off as well making it £395.

The lenovo is great but claiming cash back is annoying as you have to wait 30 days before you can claim it, so this Toshiba is good.

I have the Fujitsu, and I'm not mad keen on it, although it does have a full numpad if that's a decider for anyone. It's a bit better now I've upped the RAM but seems a bit sluggish. Perhaps an SSD will help.
