Bought this at Sainsburys in Worthing, West Sussex today and for an i3 Tosh didnt think it was a bad price.

It was on display in a empty box pre printed with the price of £349.00 so assume this must be a national offer but guessing larger stores only.

Full spec available here : http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/product/Satellite-L500-1XC/1081193/toshibaShop/false/.

Reviews dont seem to bad and I'd compare it with the Sammy E452 shown here earlier at a higher price than this.

UPDATE : Thanks to 'drziodburg for this. On top of this, as part of the Toshiba promotion you also get to choose between either

1. FREE12 months of Lovefilm membership or
2. FREE Pair of ODEON cinema tickets every month for a year. (Worth £183.60)

On top of this you also get to choose either

1. FREE LED bulb (Might sound ridiculous until you see that these retail at around the £25-£30 mark)
2. Have a Tree planted in your name in Alladale Wilderness Reserve in Scotland and receive a certificate (Could make an excellent gift)

You may also be eligible for upto £100 cashback on any old laptop you may have in exchange although this is dependant on the model.

Not forgetting also

1. NECTAR Points
2. You have 28 days from purchase to get a full refund if you see someting better (checked this instore)

See http://www.toshiba.co.uk/Promotions/film/index.html for details.

What more do you want or £349!

Is this better the Samsung deal on saveonlaptops?
#4
in my opinion yes. Same spec, less cost, more offers.

The FREE light bulb seals the deal for me!

If it seals the deal you might like to know the bulb retails for £25-30! eBay it and put it against the cost of the tosh!

Not quite the same spec.

The Samsung has a 350M (2.26 GHz) CPU, yours is 330M (2.13 GHz)

other differences as well, interested parties can compare the specs themselves.

A good deal though imv (I've gone for this one though: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/acer-aspire-5742-15-6-inch-notebook-intel-core-i3-370m-processor-2-4ghz-3gb-ram/854925/#post10411760 )

Good price, obsolete model though, shifting stock..
#9
where is the possible trade in cashback cause I've got a laptop with power issues that could do for a trade in mwhaha
#10
How does the i3 compare to the core 2 duo. I know there are various versions but roughly?
#11
I'd take a Tosh over Acer or Samsung laptops anyday and seeing as they are pretty much the same spec (minimal difference) I'd have this one.

Excellent spec for under £350.

My Acer: Intel Core i3 370M @ 2.40GHz Passmark is 2218,
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

The Samsung mentioned: Intel Core i3 350M @ 2.27GHz Passmark is 2059,
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/mid_range_cpus.html

This Tosh: Intel Core i3 330M @ 2.13GHz Passmark is 1955,
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/mid_range_cpus.html

As you say, not much difference between the Samsung and this Tosh.

Memory wise both Samies and Tosh could do with more memory, and having only 2Gb is good imv as you'd just lob them/ebay anyway. 8Gb can be had for just under £80 from Crucial

Nice extra's on this Tosh deal as well.

If you can get the extra memory and sell what it comes with, all for sub £400, that's a good deal imnsho ;-)

People, buying laptop/netbooks nowadays are fouls.
AMD's fusion(and intel's sandy bridge) just announced, and there are a few on the market already, for the exact same price with better performance, and 6-8 battery time.
I'd rather wait 1-2 months for those, than buy a laptop now.
This technology is the future, keep an eye on it!

Teletransportation that's the future too...let's all wait for that instead of buying cars!

soni234,

"People, buying laptop/netbooks nowadays are fouls."

Give them a yellow or a straight red and send them to bed? (_;)

Do you have any links you could provide, I'm interested in having a look to compare.

I find there is always a technology of the future, and it's always better, which often means I am waiting for the future and actually never buy anything at all because the future, by definition, is always just out of reach (_;)

I would say that aesthetically you are right. But build quality and parts are better on Toshiba's. Samsung are jack of all trades whereas Toshiba do tend to specialise in computers (yes - I'm aware that they do have their fingers in a lot of pies but laptops are where they specialise).

Shared Memory. Enough said.

Does this and the samsung share the same graphics card? if not which is better?

Also which is best if they cost the same price?

If one were to upgrade the RAM to the max, say 8Gb, would the "shared memory" issue be much improved?
#27
Is there direct link as I can;t find it on Sainsburys website.
#28
As stated it's in store only
#29
called care line and none available in london, a few branches outside of london have limited stock but the nice lady on the pohone told me that Scotland was the best place to get them as lots of stock around..
#30
Worth it for the cinema tickets alone! Hot.

Shared graphics memory. Not good...

just tried stores around edinburgh, and apparently even though they are showing as 5 or so in stock, they are actually unavailable as they went off sale on the 11th of January.

Never mind, good deal though!
#33
Were not all teenagers looking for gaming machines. Comparatively with notebooks in this particular group it has very good specs and with all the other benefits in my opinion it's a steal.
#34
That's odd... I bought the machine on the 18th January from sainsburys in Worthing, West Sussex. Me thinks they're telling you porky's
