will let you know what its like once i unbox and set it up later. :)

this tempts me
#3
got it today setup and sorted.

first impressions are pretty good. definately better than the other acers that have been a similar price recently.

I have seen both in the flesh and this is definately better build, if a bit more basic looking.

Will post more info after having more time with it.

The spec on ebuyersays the graphics chip is Intel GMA 4500MHD, not the ATI.

Which is right?
#5
have a look at the link in my description, it gives full specs from Toshiba. The laptop has an ATI graphics sticker on it. I believe this laptop has ATI Radeon 3100 built in graphics.

Hope this helps
#6
Hi Opencube. Can you give us an ida of battery life yet? and what about the weight of the laptop?
Thanks
#7
Pretty decent, mostly cos it isn't an Acer. :-)
#8
Excellent deal if £350 is your price point.

This is vastly superior to all these "free" Toshibas/Acers popping up for sale which come with mobile phone deals.

Just confirm it's OK to upgrade to Windows 7 (definitely a good option as it's a great OS) and it looks like it is http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/generic/windows7-upgrade/

Unfortunately £27.90 is the highest I've ever seen for an upgrade for a consumer OS. At least they're not saying it's "free".

Still a good deal if you need a laptop now.

I tested out the Acers (from Currys) that were recently posted on here, and they weren't that nice to me. The touchpad was kinda build into the wrist rest bit at the front, so there was no differentiation in what was the rest and what was the touch pad.

Also the numeric pad on the laptop keyboard just felt odd and made sitting at the laptop a little lop sided.

Ill let you know how the battery fares over the next few days, but at the moment we are very happy with the purchase.

Will test out some HD footage later and see how it handles it without a super graphics system.

Toshiba site says 'weight : starting at 2.49 kg'

sorry if this sounds stupid, but I put one in the basket to buy, but the site is offering me a power adaptor for £54, am I to understand that you have to buy this as well? Would make it a lot more expensive if it did.
thanks

croydebay21 - The laptop will already come with a power adapter, so unless you need a spare..theres no need to purchase another one.:)

does this have an rs232 slot?

Amazinging unlikely but if it's some end of line business/pro model you might be in luck.

The thing is with eBuyer you only really know what you're getting once you get it. Anything they or Toshiba UK tell you can be discounted until you actually see the goods. I reckon this is a real goer of a machine due to it having 3GB RAM. That tells me it's well specced and maybe part of some old contract with a specialist supplier or something.

Acer do some fine budget laptops in their Extensa range with matt screens, Bluetooth and a minimum of 3 USBs. I have a couple myself.

No, you dont need to buy it, just proceed to the checkout and check it isnt in your basket, if it is you can remove it there.

Dont think so, only port that resembles that is the monitor out / VGA.

I think it might struggle a bit with Sims 3, not totally sure though.
#19
Cant say for sure about Sims but the laptop Toshiba page states:

manufacturer : ATI
type : ATI Radeon™ 3100 Graphics
memory : up to 1,407 MB total available graphics memory with 3 GB system memory
memory type : shared

as it has 3GB it seems to be ok so far (but we dont use the laptop for gaming)

Battery life was approx 2 hours with very light browsing of the web.

Hope this info helps

How does the CPU in this laptop - AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core Processor - comapre with an Intel Celeron T3000. Thanks.
#21
I had a tough time figuring out which is better, its a pain.

Couldnt find the T3000 chip in this coparison table

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmarklist.2436.0.html

If you do a serach for QL-64 and any other chip name with a space to seperate and select 'Or' option, you can compare chips easily.

Sims is the big question for me to. My 13yr old girls birthday on Friday and that's her favorite game. I got £350 to £370 to play with ,this price range is a mine field it's doing my head in casing my tale.:? I got this one for my 16yr old 3 months back for £362.70 which i thought was a good deal.

The battery life is much better, but has less ram, HD and slower CPU, and no upgrade to W7. There is a upgrade to a 2 year warranty for about £20-30 tho if that matters to you.

so is the graphics card definatly Ati 3100 and not Mobile Intel ® GMA 4500MHD like ebuyer have advertised?

Is the graphics card intergrated on the Toshiba Pro L300D-22E or is it upgradable? Sorry if it sounds dumb but I am unsure.

i brought that one too (from dabs - with 2% cashback)
http://www.dabs.com/products/toshiba-satellite-pro-l300d-20r-athlon-x2-ql-64-2gb-160-dvd---rw-15-4--wxga-vista-home-premium-5JXN.html?refs=49340000-49010000-50220000-43570000-49250000-50540

DIFFERENCES:
160gb rather than 250 - which imo isnt much of a loss as memory is so cheap these days
2gb of ram rather than 3gb - 2gb is sufficient enough and if you need more its only £20 for 2gb more!
the only real loss is that the fsb is 667mhz rather than 800mhz but 667 is typical of a laptop so cant be bad!

imo this is a great price after the cashback for a well spec'd lappy :o)
