Good machine but still only £2 off rrp
#3
Total including savings : £ 22.48 I think is ok for a DivX-XviD dvd player!!!

This DVD does play xvids - I've run some with the codec "XviD MPEG-4 Video Decode" and they're perfect.
#4
Does this player have resume as most cheap Toshiba DVD players dont?
#5
great player for the money I bought five of these for friends and family for xmas, even better value now!
#6

It's 2.5x more expensive, so it's not surprising!

i know its nothing to do with the product, but if your ever offered a job at toshiba please say no for your own health because when i was there i had to put like 3000 tv cases on a day lol
#14
Aye USB is essential. The Silvercrests from Lidl are the best DivX players around.

IMHO...

But it's also a hotter deal. HDMI, 1080p upscaling and USB for the price of that model makes it a hotter deal than this machine. I guess it all comes down to your budget, though. :)

A whole £2.50 off...Tesco are surely the most miserly retailer out there!

Just get one of these and it's job done :)

Looks worthy of a deal itself

I bought the £24 "onn" one from Asda. Multi-region out of the box, USB, plays DiVX, HDMI, etc. Has played everything I've thrown at it so far...

I agree, altho I paid about £16summat during the recent "equivalent to more than xx% VAT off" offer.
Strangely(?), the Chinglish manual says it is not region-free, but it is.
Haven't found anything it can't play yet.

Great price but i've been unlucky with this model...on my 3rd one in 6months, power issues have forced me to unplug at mains to switch off and lip-sync is all over the shop, my 3rd one is also starting to show symptoms of this...time to switch me thinks. :s
#23
Okay....if i had four or five 700mb films on a 4Gb DVD-R..

would i be able to pop the disc in the player and watch all the movies through my tv?
#24
The one that ASDA currently sell (their own value one) is locked to R2 and can't be changed - no hacks work :(

Don't know about the other one they sell (Dual) - probably the same as their own, as it looks the same but Silver.

Is the Lidl one multi-region?

Does this play packed bitstream because I bought a £40 toshiba with divx playback that was incapable of playing pack bitstream which meant a lot of my titles would not play properly.

My mates tesco divx player played packed bitstream and he only paid £15 for it.

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Encoders-Converter-DIVX-Related/MPEG-Modifier.shtml

http://www.moitah.net/MPEG4Modifier.png
MPEG4 Modifier Screenshot

Modifies MPEG-4 ASP videos (XviD, DivX) without re-encoding (change aspect ratio, edit userdata, remove or add packed bitstream, and change interlaced field order). It can also show information about the video such as the amount of I/P/S/B-VOPs used, whether or not QPel/GMC were used, etc. The video must be in an AVI container.

hope that helps... I hate packed bitstream, makes the video stutter when played through a dvd player etc.

Got one in Edinburgh yesterday. Read about the "any region" today and tried it. Seems like a good player for the price

For only £55 buy the tshiba DX-E500 - which can easily be made rgion-free.

Its by far the better machine - amazing up-scaling properties through HDMI.

Pricematch Curry's against comet for £55 price

No, you have to spend £40+ for players with a USB socket.

I had a near identical Tevion player and true it played everything well... But it lasted only 8 months

The LG DVX392H is an amazing machine if you can find one.

Does anyone have an opinion on Funai Players/recorders? A mate just told me he saw a DVD recorder with 250 HDD and DivX etc for £80, but I've never heard of them!

Picking the Toshiba up tomorow for upstairs but would like some feedback on the Funai before I go... Sorry for diverting the thread!

Thanks.

Yes, plays MP3s  and which will also play subtitles for DivX files.

We got one of these and all seems well apart from some avi files are not working properly. It says something on the lines of invalid file type. I'm guessing that it is to do with codecs but I'm lacking in knowledge of what or why!

Any suggestions?!?

Ta!
