It's not the non plus ultra bargain, but a very solid computer with excellent after sales service - for a pretty good price.

I suggest doubling the ram.

Pretty naff specs for the price imo, although Toshiba always make good quality units, but for the £400 quid mark you can get better. Depends if you want Vista Business and the 3 year warranty - maybe like you said, good for business users not so good for home users.
I currently use a Toshiba M100. Runs Windows XP really well.
Just a word of warning.
If you can wait - I'd wait another 3-6 months and get a machine with Windows 7 (or a free upgrade). I've been running the Windows 7 RC1 and its much improved on Vista. Vista is going to have a very short life (it was a stop gap- which was released too early and initially buggy) .Probably in a couple of months Microsoft will start having to sell machines with a free upgrade to Windows 7 to shift them off the shelf. Its a bad time to be buying a Vista Machine. Though if your going to downgrade to XP anyway - well might be a cheap time to buy. Windows 7 is a massive improvement over Vista, just in terms of overall feel - and this is just the RC1 (Release Candidate 1)
The biggest problem I've had with Toshiba's is the Intel graphics chipset - as soon as it is out to pasture - they just don't bother supporting it. More than 10m Netbooks were sold last year with Intel 915 chipset - there isn't going to be a Windows 7 graphics driver for that chipset or the 82855 chipset (the initial 'centrino' chipset used in production until 2006/2007) - only very slow standard vga support - ie. no playing dvds etc & fixed resolution of 800x600.
Worth waiting for either the Nvidia Ion 9400 Chipset (as used is apple macs) or the Ati 4850/4870 mobile chipset. Even if you don't need the graphics - nvidia/ati do seem better at supporting their chipsets. Several intel chipsets currently have no driver support under Win7, and its not sure whether this will change.
But on the plus side - l like Toshiba's high end laptops - Tecras and Portege - find them pretty solid, but currently they all use intel integrated graphics chipsets. Even the X3100 Chipset (used here) is fairly long in the tooth now.
bad spec big style - cold
You would be paying £120 for the Toshiba name, this spec is very outdated
Or you could get this from Argos which is better speced and it's a Toshiba as well.

Those are bottom end consumer machines. Comparing those with a Tecra is like comparing a Mercedes to a Fiat.
Have a look and see why Tecras cost a bit more :

Yep as an owner of 2 true business class machines they are just in a different league to your average built to a price laptop. Plastics are better and stronger, chassis, lid hinges, keyboard - they don't flex, the paint shoudn't scratch etc. You can only truly appreciate them if you are using them in a business environment, opening and closing them several times a day, flying and travelling etc. Typical consumer units may appear to be the same or better spec but they just can't hack it. Have no experience of the Tecra but seems a good price for what it is. Think they run a bit hot though, or was that teh earlier version/
If it had HSDPA it would have been a great deal but it's still pretty good, it's sucessor the M10 is £580 so you're still saving even with the memory upgrade.
