How does this stack up against the HTC HD2?
#2
hot hot hot

Amazing deal, but beware, the touch-screen isn't the best.

On the upside, there is a playstation emaulator the works fantastically on this device

Is this easy to unlock?
#5
Also can you tun something else on it? Other then Windows?

Pretty much the same,

They both have the same proccessor, but the HD2 has a 4.3" screen? and the toshiba is 4.1", the HD2 has a Capacitive touchscreen and the Toshiba is Resistive, some ram differences too i believe, and it doesnt have a big community backing it, I bought one on the deal before of this same deal instore and its a good phone, only downside for me is the touchscreen as im used to multitouch etc..

It can be unlocked by ur IMEI code for about £10-£20 i think

and to ur other question, u cant run anything other than Windows Mobile atm, there is a possibiliy in the future if there is support for the phone..

You can run TouchFlo 3d etc though..

Am i being stupid as I can not figure out hiow to but it. It seems to be expired

hi, what is the unlimited internet on dolphin?
is it just for facebook or any web sites?
it is capped at 50mb, how much surfing can be done for that?
#11
Figured it out. I think that I will give it a go. From what I have heard it is a great phone ruined by Windows. Hoepfully the later will get better
#12
I think the phone will be an antique by the time Microsoft eventually sort windows mobile to work properly!! I had a look at this phone in the Orange shop at christmas. Its enormous!! difficult to hold and nothing like as pocketable as the Iphone or the new T-mobile pulse (which incidentally is fantastic)

Please dont quote me on this - BUT i believe you can get the Windows Mobile 6.5 Upgrade for this free of charge from the Toshiba website. You need to give a valiid IMEI number.
Also, it is pretty good for watching movies, but im not overly keen on the battery life with the thing.
#14
Great price. Just a small warning - if you are used to HTC products - touchflo and sense ui - you will be bitterly disappointed. Toshiba and Orange have actually made this a pretty average product with big niggles.

Yeah you can , mine came with windows mobile 6.5 preloaded..

If possible I would unlock the phone to T-Mobile and get one of their internet packages, or you can get 6 months internet for £20, which isnt a bad deal tbh?
#16
I understand that the phone will not be as good as some of the others. But frankly for £150 I would expect that...

It's possible to install most of the HTC software onto the Toshiba.

Alternatively, SPB Shell is a great alternative (though it's not free).

can this be done from the Toshiba site?
#22
I think this will never support multi touch either due to the screen type....... unlike the HD2 and many others :)

I have a Toshiba TG01 and to be honest as a phone its a pile of junk, it is hard to hear the caller, whether they be on a mobile or a landline.

The phone company that I am with has already changed the handset due to this problem, but it hasn't resolved it, it is still just as bad.

The rest of the phone is ok, but there are better phones out there, save your money and get something that actually works as it should.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that this phone is a pile of junk.

I bought it from instore about a week and a bit ago and the phone itself is fantastic piece of kit but the call quality is terrible! Its kind of luck of the draw, sometimes you can have a decent call but 90% of the time the call ends up cutting up even though I have a great 3.5G signal.

I'm unsure wether its a software or hardware issue but seemingly the Japanese version of the phone doesn't have these problems. If the call quality gets sorted by toshiba then it would be an excellent phone.

Also the battery life aint great but if you mess about with the power saving settings it lasts much longer.

Overall its a great phone but the reason you have a mobile is to make calls so until the call quality gets fixed I wouldn't get it unless you can put up with it but its very frustrating.

Seemingly some people have fixed the issue by reloading the firmware from Toshiba's site but I've yet to try that but will probably tonight. If this doesn't work then I think I'll have to return the phone or sell it.

Yeah 6.5 came preinstalled from the Orange shop, had a wee sticker on the box saying it as well

That thread will run you through it. I done it on mine and all the features on it work perfectly. Don't think its the most recent htc interface but its still makes your phone look better!
#28
All the reviews I have read have were back in July 09 when the handset cost £450 and the only major concerns was the software (which at the time was Winmo 6.1)

Now its got WinMo 6.5 and the interface can be customised with SPB its an absolute bargain at £150 (+ £10 top up)

I messed about with this phone for a bit in an orange store today, and the screen is awful when compared to an iPhone or HTC Hero etc, both of which I've used.

I decided not to splash out as much as that, and got a basic Nokia for what I needed.... does the trick..

Phone looks good on here but [email protected] orange store today and seen the phone and omg it is like the size of a brick even larger than an i phone wouldnt like to carry that around with me 24/7:whistling:

It is somewhat exciting to see the emergence of this phone in the market. For the price of £150 which seems to be permanent now, please correct me if i'm mistaken, is offering amazing value for money with the features you'd expect to rival the so-called Giants like Apple and its iPhone, Samsung Omnia, HTC HD2 etc. Each of these phones are in a price bracket way above this and It just makes you wonder how much the hardware is really worth and whether we can expect to see more of these high-spec phones delivered at these kind of prices in the early future.

Also the screen is resistive therefore its works by pressure force hence if you use a small surface area like the stylus pen tip you get amazing precision which i think is necessary for Windows Mobile OS's in general, HTC also use it. Plus I believe its the same as the Omnia's screen. This is for the guy previously who complained about the screen. The iPhone is nice but when it boils down to it its too much of a novelty phone for myself.

no comparison.
some of the same components, but there is a reason HTC can sell loads of HD2s for a more expensive price then the iphone

From what I've read I'd tend to agree. The only other thing mentioned on many of the forums (including the previous HUKD in-store post) was that the call quality was not good. Anyone with any experience of this?
#34
Cant believe how cheap this is! I have the HTC HD2, but obviously thats a whole lot more money, the tg01 is great value for money.

Half tempted to sell my ipod touch and put it towards getting this.
Slightly worried about the size of it, though. And, as previously mentioned - the call quality.

Could someone tell me if it has full flash compatibility in the browser?

With the Free skyfire browser (must be installed seperately), yes theirs full flash compatibility :)

Cheers! Argh!! I don't know what to do! The size is putting me off a little bit, not sure if it'll even fit in my jeans as I wear them pretty skinny. The phone looks massive here, probably the size of my head! The model doesn't do it much justice, either :w00t:

Compared to the size of his ears is not!

Eh :?

The "HD2 and many others" most certainly aren't available for £150 !

The HD2 is much better - as you'd expect for a phone costing five hundred pounds SIM-free !

Awful at what ? It's a 4.1" 800x480 display - the image quality is absolutely awesome !

You are aware that it's a resistive screen designed for use with the included stylus ?

gutted to see it already posted
