Very flimsy laptop, especially the lid. I recommend to go and look at one in a local shop first. Maybe ok if you don't carry it around a lot, if you do, I'd get a hard case for it.

Toshiba are VERY tied with cashback dates and forms. You may not get it if your printer fails during printing the form or if you don't keep strictly to the dates.

There is also a fee for the W7 upgrade. Toshiba doesn't say how much. It could easily be £20 for handling, which isn't much less than buying it.

Specs are ok for the price. If you don't mind the above I'd go for it. I decided for a Compaq CQ 60 instead, which has a brilliant mouse pad, wider screen, dedicated mouse pad and camera and housing is very solid, all for £320 (3gb ram, 160gb hdd but without W7 upgrade)..

You keep spouting this rubbish about Toshiba laptops having flimsy unreliable screens but you haven't presented any evidence from anywhere that they do.

The fact is I have a L300-292 sitting beside me now, I imagine the case is exactly the same as a L300-291, and the hinges and lid are fine. Other people have said the same http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/456513/showpost.php?p=6011105&postcount=30 The laptop actually feels really well made and robust for a budget model.

You don't own a Toshiba so where have you got the idea from that the lids are flimsy?

I was going to buy a Toshiba L300 series, went to the shops and compared many laptops. If you press on the closed lid of the Toshiba L300 (this applies to all models) you'll crack the screen. I have not seen any other laptop with such a flimsy top. If you search google for broken Toshiba screens, you will find a lot and this is not covered by warranty (£370 was quoted to someone but I thibk you can get it for about £200). I did not buy a Toshiba for the weak lid. HP/Compaq and even Acer and Advent, all have a strong lid. But as I said, if you don't need to transport your Toshiba L300 laptop a lot, you'll be fine as long as you dont put anything on top. I am just giving this info for the benefit of someone who orders from the net without having seen the laptop. I suggest you go into any shop and have a look Press - but very lightly - with your thumb on the closed lid. Your thumb will go through llike butter and the screen will hit the keybord. If you feel ok with this, go ahead and buy. That's all I'm saying.
