awesome deal. I wish i could scrape together the dosh to buy it. It does put life into DVD media over BluRay, but check around reviews as some folks complain it wont play all formats (Divx related).

That's strange. I've just checked the Toshiba promotional website and it clearly states it's compatible:

Divx Playback
Video compression software that allows high quality video to be compressed into small files and played back on your XDE DVD player.

I was on the verge of ordering one of these when i remembered something I read on the reviews at Amazon
there is no resume playback unless you leave the disc in with the unit on

That's a deal killer for me, if it wasn't for that I'd have ordered it like a shot.
Voted hot as the resume play might not matter to some, but it does to me

Happy Christmas all :santa:

Any idea how much this package would usually cost? If someone is already using Lovefilm, would it be worth buying this player, cancelling the existing Lovefilm sub and having the 12 month sub as a replacement?

If the sub is £5 per month, that would get you a free player?

it costs about £8 per month for that subscription normally. however i think it classes as a f12 month free trial, so if you cancel you current contract you probably wouldn't be able to take advantage of this offer.

The package being offered is normally £7.82 per month making the 12 months 'worth' £93.84.

That certainly makes the DVD player 'free' and you could always flog it on Ebay :-D

This is an excellent deal, especially because of 12 months of loveflim for free!

I wont however buy it as i just got the phillips dvp5980 a couple of months ago. that is excellent but also has the most frustrating issue of not being able to resume playback (from any poin) if you turn off the disc. Eg. if i am watching a three hour film and turn it off after 2 hours, when i put it back on i cant skip straight to 2 hours, i have to manually fast-forward to that stage which takes a fw mins.

From the amazon review of this toshiba one, i think it might be of a similar situation.

Would it be possible to use wifes name / slightly different address and a different credit card etc to bypass this?
#14
There is nothing in the terms to say excluding previous Lovefilm trial users. It only says one claim per household. They couldn't exclude previous trial users as that would exclude nearly everyboby as they now own just about all the old DVD rental companies!

Just use chapter skip? Maybe 10 or so button presses and your there, I'm not quite familiar with any DVD player that once you remove the disc or switch off the player you can resume? On my Panasonic DMR ES10 you have to press stop twice and then you can resume, if you switch the player off it can no longer resume I think.

yes i had free trial from these and cancelled before period eneded, i then recieved a 50 card for more dvd rentals but it would not work as i was a previous customer,so i used the card with my wives details and now enjoying the first of the dvds inc bluray ,so give it a try ,used same address

if that's the case the love film alone is worth £93.84?? why would they do that?

you save £33.85 from love film just by buying this DVD player and you could just sell the DVD player right to make back some money.

I think this deal was posted a few months back by a guy as his local store had a managers special, the Toshiba XDE500 had just came to the market, I was looking for a 1080p upscaling player back then, but back then didn't know/nobody can confirm, it could be made Multi-Region, so went for the Philips dvp5980 instead.

but the XDE500 have many other upscaling features (but some online reviews say they're not all good), and most important of all if it can be made MultiRegion, at this price it's a hot deal.

Currys have this for £117.43.
Is there some sort of Currys price promise ?
match the price plus 10% of the differance?=£5.7 off £59.99 =£54.29 ish
we live in hope.

HOT! I use lovefilm and pay for it so for me this is like a free dvd player as I'd be paying lovefilm anyway! Fantastic.
Just wondering if this has a HDMI cable in the box or if I need to buy one seperately? Someone mentioned on page 1 if this thread that it says it does, but I cannot see this anywhere in the info on comet's website. I'd be grateful if anyone knows as I'll be sending my brother off to comet to pick one up :-D

I had a email from Toshiba a couple of days ago trying to sell me this DVD player for £119 as i have a couple of there lcd TV's. I cant understand you lot and love film Ive had that many 6 months free trials with them and never had to buy anything and that's with the best package where you get 4 films constantly when you send 4 back you get 4 more why would you buy a player to get one just do a search for a code and to be fair there service is rubbish they always send you films at the bottom of your choices list.

For anyone that buys this be aware that January sales will see prices drop dramatically as the country tries to pay back those Xmas debuts they reckon that some of the price cuts on consumer electrical will me massive as shops fight for survival so it will probably get cheaper and as for love film I'm surprised i haven't revived a card offering me another free 6 months but there's still time. So a hot deal for the dvd even with some of the issues and cold for love film because i wouldnt beg a 12 month trial with them especially when you can get all the movies online for nothing when you want.

For me, I have had 2x 3 month free trials and have since tried various methods of getting new 3 month free trials but they have got really tight on it now. A new email address won't work, nor did changing the subscription to another family member's name, they have your surname and address on file and (for me) it won't work. Even people who did the postcode method are having problems trying to get another 3 month free trial.

This dvd player is already half price, I'd say that's a pretty good price cut aready (granted, I'd never pay full price) but the fact it's got the lovefilm sub is what makes it a hot deal for me.

Just picked one up for my Mum (voted cold for Comet: What's the point in reserve and collect if they don't actually bother?).

Lovefilm registration is a PITA and have to mail off to get the deal; they must figure a lot of people won't bother.

DVD player seems good at first glance and works very well with the Tosh LCD it's paired with. Regza link is very cool and will also work with other CEC-enabled TV's e.g. Bravia / Viera - one remote to control them all! Free HDMI is worth about a fiver too and a lot better than payong £40+ from some overpriced Monster rubbish from Comet. Hint: HDMI is digital, it either works or it doesn't, don't believe they hype on 'premium' cables!

Just order one from Currys price matched plus 10% of differance, but had to pay for delivery so came to £60.
Nearest Comet with stock 40 miles away.

Really helpful, thanks. It'd be great it it works/links with the Regza thingy with my viera lcd tv and save on the clutter of another controller.
