I should claim copyright for this posting. Moda has copied and pasted from my original posting of this offer at Comet months ago.

Sneaky! :-P

It was £60 from Amazon back in March.:p

Very good machine and it's also quite small and neat. It can make a big difference if you have a new large telly, an old DVD machine, a load of DVDs and you're not gonna sign up for a Blu-ray player anytime soon.

The Multi-Region feature shouldn't be overlooked too as Blu players are region unfriendly.

Good DVD player. I got one from Currys in Cov back last year when I got them to price match the Comet deal posted above and it worked out to just over £50.

The Lovefilm offer is 4 DVD's a month, which they normaly charge £7.52 (give or take a few pence) so you can do the maths...They do some times send you more but that's just the occasional computer blip.

I would google (other search engines are available) the "XDE500 whining noise on standby" but this is easily fixed and if you have it in an enclosed cabinet you'll not notice it...Well, depending on your hearing you may...:whistling:

Very good DVD Player got mine for £50 around December but this is still a good deal. Great upscaling quality just keep the XDE picture enhancements off, I found they did the opposite in some cases. Has played every DivX/Xvid I've thrown at it as well so far.

I too managed to pick one up for just over £50 back at the end of December from John Lewis and can vouch for this being a nice piece of kit.

It also got a 5* rating in What HiFi Sound and Vision.

I bought a Panasonic TX-P42X10 last week to replace my old 32" CRT so have finally been able to put the XD-E500 through it's paces and have nothing but good things to report.

Bit of a bargain really, especially if you have a massive DVD collection, gives your films a new lease of life.

Get it for £69 at John Lewis, you get 2 years warranty plus free delivery.

I seem to remember from reviews that it doesn't remember disc position when you go into standby... doesn't bother me much, and I've had my eye on one for awhile at the right price... now to find one in stock :)

I got this from Comet a while back and is a great DVD player. On my tv it was noticeably better quality with the upscaling than my last dvd payer.
Well worth it on its own but with the Love Film deal its a no brainer.
I've got that whinig noise on standy by but since I moved it into my lounge I dont notice it as much as its further away.
The only downside of this product is the LCD screen looks a bit dated but for the price cant complain.

Why buy a dvd player at this price? Its not much more more to get a bluray player, which also upscales your dvds. IMO, brand name does not matter much these days. Get a £90 Bush player today, in 3 years it will be obselete when the latest technology is out.

I'd agree with you if the £90 bush player came with 12 months lovefilm subscription!

Good deal for a decent DVD player.

If my old sony one broke I'm not convinced I would buy another DVD player, I would probably buy a £150 Bluray player. Sooner or later it will all become bluray and £150 is far less than DVD players were early on.
#23
Out of Stock. But John Lewis deal seems good, especially 2-yr warranty and from a good company.

"Why buy a dvd player at this price?"

Well, for me, it's half the price of a half decent Bluray player @150 and DVD's are 2-a-penny vs Bluray discs still for frankly, not that much benefit.

Plus i've got about 400+ DVD's, some of which are Region 1... so, for 70 quid for a really good upscaling player, I'm happy to save some more cash for a few years.
#25
I have one and the whining was an issue when in standby so I unplug it when not using it. The lovefilm offer is great.
#26
it looks a nice peice of kit. might get me one for my region one collection. ill try jl

I though the Lovefilm offer ended in April? Or did they extend it?

Blu-ray is going to be around for a good while yet, sales of the format are rocketing not just PS3's but standalone players .

As for the price of films, a new release is only a couple of £ more - a price worth paying for the vast difference in quality - dont let inferior so called "hd downloads" confuse you - the difference between those and an upscaled dvd is minimal, however the difference between an upscaled dvd and a 1080p blu-ray is massive especially on 40inch and bigger screens. Also its not just the picture quality that is greatly improved with blu-ray but the audio.

Digital downloads are a long long way off yet and blu-ray will be around for a good few years to come.
