Traded Xbox 1s for £19.99 at GAME

Not sure whether I am allowed to post deals on traded hardware, but I just noticed that GAME appear to have started their January sale. Apologies to mods/admin/anyone else if I have made an error in posting a deal incorrectly.

Anyway, I was just browsing my local GAME store and noticed that traded Xbox 1s have been reduced from £29.99 to £19.99, which in my eyes is a great bargain. I have one already, which I use as a cheap media centre alternative (using the dashboard mod 'X-TV').

In my view, this is an excellent buy for a console that is still very capable with a good catalogue of games that are also being sold quite cheap.

Not sure if this is online as well, but I am currently unable to check the GAME website.

Hi
How do you turn them in to media centers? Also, what would they be able to do once you did?
Thanks :)
#6

Excellent price!

Make sure you try and get the Samsung drive as it plays both CD and DVD backup discs (no implying of anything illegal).

Its actually XBMC (Xbox Media Centre). You can get loads of info from http://www.xbox-scene.com/ on how to convert your box to run it.
#14
There is no "possibly" about it....I bought up loads of xbox bundles on eBay last year, asset stripped the games and now have one networked xbox for each TV in the house. A very cost effective solution for video streaming.

The only additional cost is a game e.g Splinter Cell and an xbox memory unit in order to softmod the boxes.

£19.99 is a fair price for an xbox and an absolute bargain when you consider what you can do with them.

Don't even need that these days.

@ Istanbul_Kop, That's for the 'old' new one, they don't have the 'used' ones online, looks like I'll be on the phone in the AM.

Ooops!

One of the best things I did putting a larger hard drive in my xbox and modding it.Got 30gb of Mp3's on there it plays DVD's and you can back up your games. The visualisations on a 32 inch screen are great

For £20 might aswell get another well worth the money

Never had a problem with the philips drive (had it for more than 4 years) and a later model with a LG (or Hitachi drive).

They have both played everything I have thrown at them even stuff on very dodgy (poor dye) dvdr's.

Really got a link? I have Splinter Cell and a memory card but interested to know how not to have to use it.

Wow, that's good, just got an XBox original delivered from www.CeX.co.uk for £35, mind you, they also offer 12 months warranty and delivered very quickly, as I ordered Sunday afternoon!

Will be making it XBMC for my brother, well worth the time doing!
#24
£19.99 for an xbox 1 is a bargin. I don't need another as I have 3 already. Great media centres.
#25
can neone explain exactly what you can do with this XBMC? Thanks

It's already been mentioned in the thread but Google is your friend.

If you can't get to a Game store or don't have one near you, I suppose using the £5 code brings it down to £29.99 delivered, still not too bad !

Hey, can I ask the OP, how he 'noticed that they started their Jan. sale' and that the XBOX was only £20? Were you instore? Or have you spied a site which you haven't pasted here? It wasn't/isn't clear.

Cheers :)

EDIT:

Re-read your original post and it seems you've seen them instore. Forget it.
#29
Same price at Cash Converters and Cash Wizard too, have been for a few months.

If the xbox could cope with HD x264 it would be perfect, but as it is it struggles. Still fantastic for viewing SD stuff on, and for music if a little laggy. At £20 it's well worth the money though (and as good as AppleTV which will cost 10x the price).
#30
Yea it's a b*tch about 720p and upwards. Though the space required for that stuff gets a bit silly.
#31
I think we might be losing a few people who don't appreciate what an incredible thing the XBMC is. It's a shame it requires a bit of technical knowhow to set it up because after that it's a breeze to use. To get the full power out of it you need to network it to your broadband router using a cable. After you've done that you can:

*Watch movies or tv shows you've downloaded from the web - great for shows you've missed (hint: Google "UKNova") and virtually every format (avi, mpg, vob etc.) is supported.
*Listen to mp3 music you've downloaded and watch the "visualisations" on your screen (a sort of psychedelic kaleidoscope sound to light show) if you like.
*Listen to web radio.
*Check the local weather.
*Watch your DVDs (region free!).

There's a lot of other stuff you can investigate including YouTube players and movie trailers. Thanks to the open-source nature of the project there is a huge support network of developers and best of all - it's absolutely free!

Also, it's worth mentioning the xbox remote control in this thread. They're often available for just a few quid in gamestation etc. and make the XBMC into something acceptable to non-geek members of the family. It's fully integrated into XBMC so you don't need wires all over the place to control it.
#32
Also, if your router is not close by, forget the wires and get an XBOX wireless adapter (a generic wireless bridge will do I think) and have it in the living room, while your PC and router are upstairs, etc.

NB: I haven't actually got it wireless yet, but when I move into my new house, I hope to do so, assuming it is as easy as I have apparently just suggested :|
#33
depending how strong a signal you have wireless may not be fast enough for higher bitrate stuff (dvd-vobs mostly). The xbmc devs don't suggest using wireless, but it can and does work (albeit much much slower than wired).
#34
I had a softmodded xbox running XBMC, it was a great media/streaming sollution. Unfortunately it died and i dont have the equiptment to softmod another xbox again.
What is the best/cheapest xbox mod chip around these days (you dont have to tell me where to find it)?
Thanks

Have a look at this sub-forum of the Xbox-Scene forums. If you read the stickies you'll get an idea of what's required to softmod without games or game saves.

Try www.modchip-store.co.uk they did have chips starting at about a tenner last time I looked.

Surely though there would be no reason now to buy an xbox if you have a 360 as the last 360 Live update allows you to stream, DivX, music and pictures, and also use the USB slots on the front for playing files now too. So finally the 360 is a media centre.
Only wondering as I have never had an xbox only a 360, before this I was a playstation man all the way, then I saw the error of my ways.

The XBMC interface is leagues ahead of what MS have developed. Especially at £20/station, it's unbeatable, at £200 it's probably unbeatable.
