Bargain IMO

Based on the Hasbro toy line that initially captivated kids in the 1980s, director Michael Bay's TRANSFORMERS finds two warring bands of shape-shifting alien robots renewing their intergalactic conflict on Earth. While the Decepticons, followers of the malevolent Megatron (voiced by Hugo Weaving), strive to take over the planet, the Autobots, led by the valiant Optimus Prime (voiced by Peter Cullen), are intent on protecting humanity. When young Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) discovers that his new car is really the Autobot Bumblebee (voiced by Mark Ryan), it sets the stage for a massive giant-robot showdown. A shining example of the Hollywood summer blockbuster at its best, TRANSFORMERS combines stunning CGI effects and thrilling action sequences with drama, humor, and a touch of romance. Featuring a large cast that includes Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Jon Voight, John Turturro, Anthony Anderson, and Rachael Taylor, the film is anchored by LaBeouf, who always displays an engaging Everyman charm, whether hes running from colossal robots, interacting with his well-meaning parents (hilariously played by Kevin Dunn and Julie White), or pining for his gorgeous classmate (Megan Fox). While some TRANSFORMERS purists may be dismayed by certain aspects of this bold big-screen adaptation (Bumblebee is a Camaro instead of a Volkswagen), the movie balances its spectacle with an admirable amount of substance, giving it an appeal far beyond pre-teen boys and their nostalgic Autobot-loving elders.

it was £3.99 yesterday. I had a check to see whether they had any new stock in - and this was the ONLY HD-DVD (other than boxsets) to NOT be £2.99.

Looks like it is now! :)

there was no 1 disc version in the UK they were all 2 disc 'special editions'
#11
I've noticed that in the last few weeks, HD DVD stock has dropped from over 80 HD DVD's, to just over 60 now.

Is this nearly the end for cheap HD DVD's, or do you think we can expect one last hoorah?

have to say I watched this on DVD on my 27" tv ages ago and thought it was a load of tosh...but i saw it in HD a while back for £3.99 and bought it, watched it the other night on HD projector...completely different, IMO WELL worth purchasing.

I'm planning on getting a blu ray, but will stack my HD, Blu Ray on top of each other, doesnt bother me switching formats, and blu ray costs more for the same films that are in HD

!!DONT FORGET QUIDCO FOR HMV 7% EXTRA DISCOUNT!!

Thank you.
Can someone tell me the difference between HD DVD and Blue Ray.
Had never heard of HD DVD before, only Blue Ray, but wonder what is the difference?
Sorry a little off topic but would appreciate if anyone could help.
I'm not actually a newbie as my post etc would suggest (more a lurker) but found I had to re-register for some reason today as I was unable to log on.:-)
My player (Panasonic DMD EX77) says HDD DVD on the front. Will that play HD DVD's? I assumed it referred to the internal hard drive....and yes, I am easily confused lol

Can someone tell me the difference between HD DVD and Blue Ray.
My DVD recorder says HDDVD on the front - someone pointed it out to me recently - I had never noticed so I have ordered this disc to try it out. Had never heard of HD DVD before, only Blue Ray but wonder what is the difference. Will my player play Blue Ray too, I am assuming not?

One of the downfalls of HD-DVD was actually in the name, people get confused with HD as in Hard Drive and HD as in High Definition I would suggest your DVD Player is SD only and has a Hard Drive to record on so will not play HD-DVD hope I'm wrong however, what make is it ?

bluray and hd dvd are different formats.
Like betamx and VHS in the good olden days.
However blu ray has beaten hd dvd so no more hd dvds are getting made I think, that is why they are so cheap, they are clearing them.
Im not sure if there is much difference quality wise, but they are both high definition.

Both are hi definition but there is now only going to be the new films in blu ray as the major studios chose blu ray over hd .You can play blu ray on the PS3 or a dedicated blu ray player ..you can play HD DVD on a xbox 360 add on or a dedicated player made by toshiba but these are getting hard to get hold of ,ebay best bet unless anyone knows better .At the moment HD DVD have being sold off for a while hence being able to get most now for £2.99 .
Blu ray for me is just too dear at the mo and the advantage of the xbox add on is that it upscales normal dvd , not getting into a format battle with anyone because basically bluray has won but while prices remain high normal dvd sales still dominate the market and for blu ray to really take off prices need to fall ,all i can say is that i have HD DVD and it is awesome and as has been posted snapping up all the hd i can before they totally vanish and ebay is the only option ..wish i had one of those HMV codes at the time:)

Great deal, Terrible movie (in my opinion)

I saw it on a plane and found it pretty poor - but then a movie like this is all about the spectacle so I probably wasn't doing it justice.

For £2.99 it's got to be worth it - if only for the superb HD transfer and fantastic extras it's supposed to have.

I have just bought an Xbox 360, will this play in HD or does the Xbox need an add on to play HD DVD's?

If you want to play HD-DVD movies you need the add on drive. They can be picked up new from Amazon Marketplace from around £45 upwards. Personally if I owned an XBox I would not bother ( though I will admit to being a little biased, being in the PS3/blu ray camp).

HD-DVD has no players or movies being released for it and even though you can currently picked up some movies at bargain prices do you really want to invest any amount of money in a dead format. Take my advice if you want to go hi-def then go blu-ray. Standalone players are now available from around £150. If you wait till Christmas chances are they will be even cheaper.

I paid £9.99 for this 2 Disc HD-DVD special back in June so it's definitely a hot deal

One of the best films to watch on high def !!!

can you watch it on a normal dvd player & telly-or does it need to be high definition?

Need a HD-DVD player or Xbox 360 add-on.

A HD-DVD will not play in a normal DVD player.

HD-DVD players do work with Standard Def TVs but you get full benefit with a high def TV.
