I got a reminder for the travel insurance from the Post Office, and when I went to renew it, it was more than double in price (From £115 to £238 - (Europe Travel including Winter Sports).

Apparently they are changing underwriters from the new year onwards and the premium will rocket.

The only way to bypass this was to let the existing policy expire, and then take out a new one with the current underwriters - but you must do this before 1st Jan.

Even if your current policy doesn't expire until Feb, this is definitely worth it

American Express travel insurance always offers the best value for my annual travel insurance. Esp. with some cashback (which is always paid.)
the best saving would just be to switch providers, surely?
When I checked, Post Office was most competitive...
Dont really know enough about Post Office travel insurance to vote either way.

Worth shopping around via comparison sites and then seeing what cashback available is going directly to the individual provider (and checking if there any codes). Also worth checking out the fee based bank account packages that include annual travel insurance.

My goodness an insurance company ramping up the renewal premium hoping you will just pay it. I've never heard of such a thing. ;)

This seems very expensive indeed for European cover with winter sports - although I'm obviously not aware of your circumstances.

Have you tried any of the price comparison sites - some of them will provide quotes for those with medical conditions to declare?
I agree go to moneysaving expert for advice on travel insurance
don't forget to check for cashback. I use direct travel and they give 20% cashback through tcb and it's been paid out.
Not even close to a deal - I always pay less than half of this for worldwide cover. My latest which has just expired was with Holiday Safe and I took the premier option and paid £43.54 which includes the U.S.A. for multiple trips of up to 31 days.
at that price you may as well get a nationwide FlexPlus account at £120 year - this includes family worldwide cover inc winter sports. 5 star defacto rated too.
Plus you'd get car breakdown cover / mobile cover / commission free euro atm withdrawals / 3% in credit interest too.
yeah, I'd agree, that's really expensive.

Using comparison sites and cash back should get you an annual policy with winter sports for around £30 (that was my costs last year)

As mentioned by other posters, that depends on individual circumstances tho.
I got 12 month world wide travel insurance from virgin for me and my partner and child and my medical problems covered for around the same price also virgin are not on any compare sites but it was half the price of the ones on moneysupermarket and gocompare they can also give you a discount if you take out 12 month insurance which makes it cheaper than most single trips to usa or carribean insurance .
