Absolutely love Krakow. I haven't stayed at the Hilton as I prefer Radisson and it's a bit closer to the centre. I bet you get a cracking view of the castle from there though.

Heat.

I had a bum bag containing passport, train tickets etc stolen in Krakow in 1991 when I was travelling through Europe on inter rail. Never saw the town just the police station then off to Warsaw where I stayed for three days to get an exit visa sorted (had to have a visa to travel to Poland in those day).
I am not voting hot or cold.

You deserved to be robbed for having a bum bag in public! I hope they didn't nick your shell-suit jacket too!

Bum bags were the in thing in the early nineties, never worn a shell suit in my life, always preferred denim. :D

The hotel is a distance from the main square area, anyone know what public transport is like? Google maps suggests its non existant
Towns in Poland have good trams, Krakow is probably as good as any. You just need to buy your tickets in the little newsagent kiosks, not on the trams or buses. i wish we had a system half as good as theirs. Go back 25 years, there was no choice there.http://krakow.jakdojade.pl/?locale=enhttp://www.krakow-info.com/transpor.htm
This shopping centre is right next door with a tram stop.http://www.galeriaplaza.pl/en/o-galerii-en.html
Use the here maps instead, tram no.1 goes straight to the centre, just south of the central square:https://wego.here.com/polska/krak%C3%B3w/public-transport/krakow-plaza/50.063109/19.983895?_ga=1.193737645.1491433027.1477040905&map=50.06324,19.98198,17,normal

Have to agree with you there. Public transport in the UK, when one considers value for money, is probably amongst the bottom 10% compared to the EU countries and I've been to a fair few. Kraków, as other large cities in the country, has first class public transport. A hell of a lot cheaper, definitely more punctual and cleaner, than what we have here in London.
