I was looking for rail deals in Europe for the family, and spotted this on Trenitalia's website. I think it looks like a good deal to be honest if you're going further afield by rail.
Family Special - Trenitalia's offer for families and youngsters.
Trenitalia places at the disposal of families and youngsters who travel with an adult the FAMILY SPECIAL offer.
The offer is valid on all trains connecting Italy with Austria, for both night- and day-time connections, and on the night trains to Germany and Holland
With the Family Special offer children over 6 and under 15 who travel with an adult (not necessarily the parent) - holding an Adult or Card fare ticket - pay:
* 7 euro per 2nd class seat on the trains to Austria
* 9 euro for 2nd class seats on the night trains to Germany and Holland
Family special is a fare for children from 6 to 15 who travel accompanied by an adult (one child for each adult) in possession of ticket, at one of the following fares: Adult (for aged from 26 and 60) or Card (holders of international discount cards). The adult and minor do not have to be related.
The tariff can be bought for all types of travel category.
There are no limits to the maximum number of children who can use the offer (e.g. 10 children accompanied by 10 adults can use the Family special offer).
Tickets bought with the Family special tariff can be changed and refunded according to the formalities of the International Regulations.
