“It is a homage to the north… there is geology and Romanticism, sightseeing and wine-tasting and much rumination on ageing and masculinity, relationships, love, fame and comedy itself… And it is funny, of course.” The Guardian

Beautiful scenery, exquisite gourmet cuisine and inspired, free-flowing, improvised comedy from two of the finest comic actors around.

Steve Coogan has been commissioned by a Sunday newspaper to review half a dozen restaurants in the North of England. When his food-loving American girlfriend backs out, Steve is faced with a week of meals for one. Reluctantly, he calls Rob Brydon, the only person he can think of who will be available.

Heading north in a stylish black Range Rover, the pair begin a journey of bickering, jokes and reflection. Across the dinner tables of the North's best restaurants, the neurotic and sardonic Coogan and the genial, eager-to-entertain Brydon spar on anything from Coleridge or career insecurities to which of them does the best Michael Caine impression. Out of a relationship between two friends spending more time in one another's company than they might wish, emerges sparkling dialogue, real poignancy and great laugh-out loud comedy.

Synopsis
Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon reunite with their COCK AND BULL STORY director, Michael Winterbottom, for this fictional series based around their own personas. In THE TRIP, Coogan is charged with the task of writing a food supplement for a Sunday paper. Though he intended to turn his tour of eateries in Britain's north into a jolly with his American girlfriend, he soon has to alter plans when she leaves him and returns to the US. Reluctantly Coogan turns to Brydon and the pair set off on an existential quest and comedy is never far behind...

Good price, but personally I found this show disappointingly unfunny.

I know what you mean, but I wasn't disappointed - it didn't look like it was meant to be funny!

Normally I'd rather gouge my own eyes out than watch Steve Coogan, but I like Rob Brydon and thought the banter between them was quite amusing, if a little repetitive.

Bad as it was, it was still infinitely funnier than "Lead Balloon"!

Really enjoyed this series. Not your usual comedy and all the better for it. Steve and Rob were really up for a bit of self-depreciation.

BTW...it is repetitive...that's the point I think. When you hear Rob Brydon do the 'man in the box' for the tenth time you actually feel sorry for the character trying to wring another laugh out of someone with the same old routine.
