Great charger. Quickly identifies dud cells.

Agreed - well worth the full price. The best charger I've ever bought.
#4
My dad bought one of these from his local lidl for £3 when they had a carpark clear out sale just the other week (total chaos apparently) - seems crazy for them to have sold them off cheap to make room for more of the same stock!

As I recall it is describes itself as a delta -U charger, and charges cells independantly - escential if you have a device that takes an odd number of cells, which was why he bought it.
#5
Brilliant charger - I have two of them and there are about another 6 in my extended family.

You can charge AAAs AAs Cs Ds and PP3s all at the same time.

All individual charging circuits.
#6
This deserves far higher rep than this - as it is one of the best chargers about - especially given the price - and that it will charge 6 AA or AAA batteries at once (right down to one battery at a time).
#7
This is not my post - but I am bumping it as its one of the best chargers about - and as far as I would say - the best for the money.
#8
Brilliant - been looking for a decent charger! It looks like it will charge just 2 C or D batteries at a time - can anyone that has one confirm this?

Also, anyone spotted any deals for rechargeable batteries (again, C and D - the nipper gets through them like you wouldn't believe!).

HOT!

How fast does it charge?
#10
do they still have them in stock ?

It's not a "fast" charger, but not especially slow either... Or maybe that's too vague to be helpful!! :p

It's worth bearing in mind though that the ultra-fast chargers you see don't do much for your batteries. After all, it doesn't cost the charger manufacturer any more to bump extra current through them, but it reduces the life expectancy of the cells significantly.

They generally keep specials from previous weeks until they sell out, or until it just gets embarrasing... Completely store-dependent though.

Date gone mate!! Strange
#14
Just a word of warning I bought one of these a few months ago to work alongside my much more expensive Ansmann Energy 8 charger (they're v similar - probably the same under the different case).
However after leaving it to charge some AAA's I came back to find the Tronic had melted and the batteries were kapput! Looked like it could have caused a fire if it had been left near something flammable.
The batts were a good make and had been charged OK with the Ansmann so they weren't to fault.
Took it back and got another which has worked OK so far - but its still in the back of my mind that it could happen again - I don't leave this charger unsupervised for long periods.

Probably just had a bad one - just a heads up if your gonna get one

Have you considered using battery adaptors/converters?
http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=37379

They convert AA batteries into C or D battteries.

And surprisingly, many AA rechargeable batteries have a larger capacity than a C or D rechargeable battery (probably because most people want AA batteries, so the effort has been placed into getting these capacities up)

You can get AA rechargeable batteries, 2500mAh I think, from Aldi, 4 for £1.99
#17
Is this still on? Are you sure about the date "16/04/09".
#18
Bought one full price and v happy with it, quality charger and fast too.
#19
I have previously bought this on clearance too for like a fiver, its great does a full battery discharge before charging, great circuitry and is multivoltage so can be used worldwide with just a main adaptor.

great piece of kit but dont buy the tronic batteries i thought they were pants dont last 5 mins in the kids ps3 pads.
#22
got one this for me 6 months ago in LIDL.... was looking good and working great initially..... but now the batteries show fully charged within a minute.... but when i use it in the gadgets... everything is gone in an hour.
i tried it with all different kind of banded batteries.

i suggest to get a real charger..... i mean energizer or duracell. it might look a bit costly, but ultimately it would be cost-time-effective i guess

voted hot though

sounds faulty to me, lidl are great on returns, took stuff back before, even without receipts they are usually really good, give you exchange or full money back no problem. Have a couple of these, can't recommend them enough

Still in stock at two Lidls I use - so why is it expired?

How much is 'like a fiver' - about £5 I'd guess?

I made some AA converters years ago by cutting a strip of corrogated cardboard from say,a box,to the length of an AA battery, wrap cardboard tightly around battery until the right diameter for a C or D cell is found, then cut cardboard and wrap around tightly with insulation tape.

The battery is able to be slid in and out easily.;-)
Wish i'd patented that idea as i've not seen anything like this around until a few years back.:x

Loads left in my local store :)

... but they are still £9.77 each :x

Which is the price they increased them to from £8.99 last February

This should be expired then...

I have one, its OK, but sometimes it reports cells as being 'dead' when they charge and work fine with another charger. Good overall, but don't throw out 'dead' cells without checking.

Yup, I have one that does the same thing. And now one of the charging bays has stopped working altogether...will be taking advantage of the 3 year warranty if I can find the receipt:x

None at Oxford store.
