As seen on Dragons' Den - cheaper than buying direct.
TrueCall is the complete solution to all types of nuisance phone call - telemarketing, silent calls, calls from overseas call centres, fax calls, robocalls, market researchers, offensive or threatening calls, misdials, wrong numbers and recorded message calls.

TrueCall is about the size of a paperback book. It plugs into your phone line at home and checks every call you receive before letting your phone ring.

TrueCall checks every call you receive before letting your phone ring. It connects your friends, family and invited callers straight through but stops all sorts of nuisance calls - telemarketing, silent calls, market researchers, calls from overseas call centres, fax calls, offensive or threatening calls, misdials, wrong numbers and recorded message calls.

How does trueCall work?
When a call arrives, trueCall immediately checks the caller's number. If it recognises them as a friend or a member of the user's family (the number is on their Star list), it lets them through as normal.

If the caller's number is on the user's personal Zap list - a list of numbers of telemarketers or other nuisance callers - trueCall answers the call itself, and politely tells the caller that they're not interested in the call - their phone never rings!

If trueCall doesn't recognise the caller's number, or the caller withholds their number, it asks them who they are, puts them on hold and only then rings the users phone.

When the user picks up, trueCall tells them who's calling, and they can choose whether to accept the call, get TrueCall to take a message, or Zap the caller (in which case trueCall takes over, asks them to go away, and puts them on its Zap list so they can't disturb the user again!).

At any time during an incoming call the user can press the star button on their phone ( * ) to put the caller onto their Star list.

I didn't even know this existed, so thanks for posting! Sounds pretty great.

I saw it on DD. It is indeed "pretty great" but also pretty expensive.

Yes,Not Cheap,but what a neat gizmo.

I see you changed your first comment. Yes, this is the cheapest price about and I'm sure if you get enough telemarketer calls at home £70 doesn't seem all that expensive. Most people on here have probably bought DECT phones which cost more than that.
#6
I saw a flaw in this straight off. If someone uses a VOIP service to call you from overseas, there is no way to guarantee that there will be any or the correct number notification. You would therefore, not be able to allow this through by programming it as suggested.

Good deal, have some heat

£9.99 and I might be interested.

Just ordered one! I reckon that I will save money in the long run by cancelling the Anonymous Call Rejection (costing £12.75+VAT per quarter) and using this gizmo instead. Heat added for this good deal!!

Yes I did, my second comment is now the one I put forward.

Thanks for your comment though.

I don't think this works if you have extension phones - it only filters the socket it's plugged into, so you'd need one per extension.........

I think you need to realise to get the full potential of this product you need to buy an expensive SD card with software on it. This card is the only way to record and the unit ships without it.

http://www.truecall.co.uk/acatalog/trueCallRecorder.html

http://www.expansys.com/d.aspx?i=185647

Somewhere on the internet there was a forum that were offering a free SD card with every purchase through truecall themselves. I cannot find it now but I was going to ask them if I bought the unit elsewhere would I still qualify for this SD card. Lets just say it's a work in progress.

I think it's poor show to sell this item without the SD card, and the price they want for it is un warranted.
#13
This product is very expensive for what it is...
After all, it is just a glorified answer machine.

Wonder how long it will be before a competitor brings out a better device for a much more realistic price.

It's been this price for quite a while on Amazon - I think it will reduce again. Nice equipment but now the initial purchases have been made the only way to attract significant additional sales will be cheaper pricing. £49.99 by Yuletide or just after...
#17
which dragon or dragons invested in this then?
seems a dream product but at a high price. been getting a lot of marketing calls lately, pre recorded mesages! cash my gold yesterday, reported them and signed up to tps.
if this was half that price id be tempted.
#18
Too expensive. I use the free BT services, the TPS and a very quick hang up to get rid of unwanted calls. All free.

+1 to you as well.

It costs nothing to be polite, yet firm with telemarketers. They're just people trying to make a living like us. A quick "thank you very much, but I'm not interested" is all that's required.

Although this is a good price for this machine (and I haven't voted on this deal), I'm can't in my life imagine forking out this kind of money for something I can do myself for free.

The site explains that, and puts it at a lower level of privacy than the Trucall, it is basically a little less configurable.

I am fortunately not in need of this at the moment, as I have been working at not being tormented for some years now, and am down to about one or two of these nuisance calls a week, (seemingly from abroad) - but in the past have even changed phone numbers to get around the problem. This would have saved as lot of bother, and quickly controlled the problem, although TPS is certainly a lot better than nothing, especially with caller id and a decent answering machine too.

All International telemarketers and scams will still make your phone ring, this ( to me ) is the biggest problem with a land line at the moment.

I only have one socket.
Took the other ones out to help BB reception.
Using 2 cordless phones so no problem.

Too dear for me though.
#30
not great really as it has NO WAY of ever saving numbers that are withheld to its Zap list, its impossible to do that. Most nuisance callers etc just withhold it and you are still bothered by them when this thing calls you.

Might as well answer and have a little fun abusing them back.

Voting Cold as this just doesnt seem to be worth £70!!!!

Quality... Im not sure its real though... A Geordie that can

If you're just bored, you can use sales calls as a form of free entertainment.

Play tele-terrorist
and make believe the salesperson is your top-secret partner in crime. Ask him/her where the bomb is located or which governor's daughter you ought to kidnap next. Get a friend and pretend you're government spooks wiretapping the tele-terrorist mentioned above. Make a tape recording of yourselves--the "agents"--commenting on the conversation, unaware that the 'tapped' party can hear you. Playback the tape during a telemarketing call and act really suspicious.

E.g.:
(you and telemarketer are yakking)(click!)
Agent 1: Got anything on 'im yet?
Agent 2: Sh! They'll hear us!
Agent 1: No way. This is a one-way tap, they can't hear anything.
Agetn 2: Oh. (Matrix-esque not-quite-DTMF tones in background...beepbopboobbeepbip)
Agent 1: Is that xxxxxx on the other end?
Agent 2: No, I don't know who that is. The voice doesn't sound familiar..it may be his new contact.
Agent 1: I heard this guy has over 20 bodies buried in his back yard.
Agent 2: You're shittin' me!
Agent 1: For real. He's wanted on charges ranging from manslaughter to stalking to kiddie porn. (click!)
Agent 3: Eagle, what's your status?
Agent 1: Nothing yet, at least nothing admissible in court.
Agent 3: Got a trace on the remote number yet? (click!)
You: (interrupting spiel) Hey... do you hear something?
Agent 1: Oh ****! I think he's onto us!
Agent 3: ABORT! ABOR...(click-click!)

Play Tormenting Telemarketers.

In this game you rack up points based on how long you can keep them on the line--e.g. how much of the telemarketer's time you can waste. Bonus points for making them repeat themselves, more bonus points for making them mad, still more for making them swear.

Order a pizza. (It doesn't matter that the shmuck on the other end of the line is hocking aluminum siding, ask for pizza anyway :)

Act interested, but slowly turn down the volume on the phone as you talk (or, failing that, back slowly away from the receiver). The telemarketer will probably turn up his/her headset volume to compensate. Then, when you return to full volume you're sure to come in LOUD AND CLEAR.

Engage in a Reverse Crank Call.

Many of these overpaid radio personalities make crank phone calls and play them on the air...while they're celebs and can get away with that kind of thing, the everyday schlob like yourself is not so lucky. Since they called you, however, sales calls are a fun and perfectly legal opportunity to try your hand at crank calls. While not everyone is a Jerky Boy, you can still have fun--here's one of the actual exchanges between myself and TruGreen, a chemical lawn-care service.

Bill: Hello?
Telemarketer: Hello, this is Tru-Green ChemLawn, blah blah blah you have grass cutworms in your lawn.
Bill: Yes...and?
TM: These grubs are hazardous to your lawn... we are offering a special deal on chemical treatments that will kill...
Bill: Oh, don't worry about them, they don't eat much.
TM: But sir, they'll chew up your lawn and....
Bill: Well, I guess me and them'll just have to get along then...
TM (suppressing laughter): So, you're saying you're not concerned about the grass grubs eating your lawn...
Bill: No, I have my own way of dealing with them.
TM: Really...
Bill: It's a better solution than using chemicals. I just send the wife out to dance naked on the lawn.
TM (trying hard not to crack up): ...And this works?
Bill: Yeah, it seems to take care of the grub problem. Get a few complaints from the neighbors though...
TM (about to lose it): So it kills the grubs...
Bill: No, it just blinds them. When they can't see where they're going, they die off soon enough.
TM: (has totally lost it and tries to talk through peals of laughter)
Bill: ...yeah, I was thinking maybe I could rent her out, maybe you guys could have her out nights and weekends, take care of the rest of the neighbourhood's grubs...
TM: (click!...)

Oh, dear.... you really can't tell the difference?
That's not a Geordie, in fact I am more like a Geordie than he is, you would definitely think I am - and I am not a Geordie either!

He is from somewhere in the Teesside area (I am not well-versed enough to tell WHERE in that area!) a better description would be "Smoggie" (from Smogmonster!)

Mind you, I know lots of people who can swear at those levels or more, and not even need to be mildly annoyed to do it! :whistling:

Yes, the ones I am getting are from abroad too, although not building up as I always make sure they are answered by telephone machine, and as they automatically hang up, I am assuming their system must know it is not a real person answering.

Amazon is the same price but play.com has 6% quidco so a slightly better deal.
