588 minutes of pure pleasure, I hope. Thanks for the deal listing NahTheLad.

I have just posted in the HMV deal listing from yesterday about potential issues with enjoyment of the DVDs though.

---
I was reading yesterday that the original master tapes of the three series had been lost prior to the digitally-restored DVD production (in 2008) & the surviving copies suffered from technical flaws.

The restoration has improved picture quality in places, but a number of episodes show a "rubber picture" effect. The image seems to stretch in & out from the centre of the screen probably due to warping of the source film.

In some cases, where the issues were greatest, scenes were cut from the episodes. If you did manage to watch the DVDs you may have seen that the opening sequence of the Trumpton Clock is not present on every episode, for instance. Other scenes were cut including fire station & fire engine sequences, & some of the band stand at the end of the episodes.

Such a pity. I was looking forward to watching these again, but seeing a poor transition to DVD may spoil my childhood memories meaning I don't think it is worth the risk (although I would like to sit with my kids & see what they make of the shows today).

I believe that the "Nick Jr." TV channel has been re-running the series recently.

Had anybody seen it or, indeed, watching the DVDs all the way through?

Hopefully advancements in technology in future years can help with fixing the digital representations of the warped footage, but if nobody buys the DVD sets now (because of the quality) then there will be no revenue for the production company to use to finance the additional work.

D’oh!

PS. I found a fan-based site yesterday with some interesting information about the entire series & each of the main members of the cast & crew…

“Trumptonshire Web” run by Richard Evans (with a copyright quoted between 1996 & 2000, but revisions to some pages in 2003):
