Turtle Beach P11 + DSS 7.1 Channel Dolby Surround Sound Processor - £49.99 @ Amazon

jk12324jk12324

I was planning to order a pair of P11s and was searching around a bit when I came across this bundle on Amazon.

The cheapest I can find the headset on its own is £35, which makes the DSS processor £15.

I've tried searching with great difficulty (not least because it has been discontinued) to see how much the sound processor is worth, but I was only able to find "used" ones on eBay for £40+ and this exact bundle for £70+. The newer sound processor, the DSS2, is going for £60+.

Everything about this screams deal to me, hence why I am posting this. I'm not familiar with the gaming headset market however, so I might be wrong.

I am curious to see how this will be voted and will use this to decide whether to buy the bundle or just the headset on its own. Please give me some pointers in the comments if you can do. ;)

Thanks in advance.

PS3 ONLY
- Bully

The P11 headset is PS3/PC only but the DSS processor works with ANY stereo headset.

Meh, I've went ahead and ordered it in case some of you guys do and it goes out of stock. I'll cancel my order if anyone thinks this is a bad deal.

Also it's the cheapest it's ever been on Amazon.

you end up with a load of wires knocking about, but if you're sat at a desk or very close to the TV that might not be an issue

    good price though :)

I have just the P11's on their own. Is there a great benefit in having the sound processor? Would be interested in knowing your opinion @jk12324

As I've said in my first post, I'm a noob at gaming headsets (this will be my first one) so I can't really say from my personal experience (yet). From what I've read though, the people who were impressed with the headset originally were surprised at the noticeable jump in quality once they added the DSS.

In technical terms, stereo only has 2 directions, left and right. 7.1 surround sound has 7 directions, so I'd imagine you'd be able to tell which direction sounds are coming from much easier and is probably more immersive overall.

Also I'd be inclined to think that something originally costing £60+ would have quite a big effect on the experience you get overall.

EDIT: Also I forgot, it has a 3.5mm jack and is supplied with a 3.5mm-3.5mm cable so you could plug in your iPod and listen to your own music while gaming! (I think)

Good price. Worth mentioning in the title though that this is a PS3 headset.

Good price, I'm an Astro man myself, but you can't beat these at this price. Nice find OP!

It looks like all it does it takes a stereo input and does fake processing to give 7.1. I'd much rather prefer a system that takes the optical audio from your system.

I think I wrongly assumed these are a Universal set, rather than PS3 only. Stereo too!?

Got a pair of turtle beach DPX21s myself and the sound processor makes a huge difference. I have the second one though, not sure what the difference between them is though.

For PC I would strongly recommend a different deal.

Tritton PC surround Headphones on Hotukdeals

Amazon Price History of this product

Only recommend this if it is for PC usage. The console version is still above £70.00 so the turtle beach ones are a better deal at the moment for console users

So, is the surround processor same as good as a true 5.1 or 7.1???
    Thank You
    sparx1981
No because you only have two speakers, one in each ear. So it gives an effect of hearing multiple sound sources

I have a set of x31's hooked up to a dss for pc and ps3 gaming. For this price i think it's a bargain imho.
The dss can always be flogged on the bay if you don't like it?

    PS3 should be in title.

The DSS processor is excellent. Not significantly worse than the Astro Mixamp.

No, it's just Amazon. They have to put every item in one category, but the DSS can work on the XBOX 360, PS3, and PC (although you'll get better sound quality if your sound card has TOSlink out).

True, but if you want to spend the extra money or if you're an audiophile, you'll prefer the Mixamp.

*BUT* This deal is amazing if you want a multi-platform headset or virtual 7.1, or even if you just own a turtle beach headset already; You can have the P11's (which are comfortable and have good build quality) as a backup
