Did you post this Matalan deal on HUKD? I'm 6'5 and Asda stuff won't fit me, but your Matalan stuff sounds good. Is the offer still on/a regular deal?

Good Find!!!

First stop on High Street ASDA today!!!

This offer from ASDA was covered in yesterday's Times, with the marvellous quote "why bother...far better to go to your local charity shop and buy a dead man's suit" - you can pick up far better quality DJ's at Oxfam etc, and at similar, if not better price - these from ASDA are "plastic", rather than wool etc.

Yes it was posted (the search button is your friend) and there was quite a big debate about the quality

Riight.....

For those of us who don't like the idea of wearing a corpse's suit, these look great for Xmas parties etc. The only reason I wouldn't buy one is that everyone else will have bought one! (That, and the fact I already have sommat similar)

I bought a tux for a work do after hiring them all through uni. Haven't needed to wear one since (typical). I saw this in ASDA on Thursday and it didn't look too bad at all.

Seeing as you have so much cash to splash, you will probably be wanting some of this.......why don't you go and find somewhere else to drink it while you're at it? :whistling:

This is a great offer. I've hired tuxedos before and they look tired and over-washed. If I can buy a brand new tuxedo for less than the hire price I will. To respond to the comments about Hugo Boss suits and such like, the patterns used are the same as the Asda one, probably made in the same factory. The only way you will truely get a unique suit is to buy one bespoke. You're an idiot if you think the suit you wear defines who you are. I'll have an Asda tuxedo and money in the bank any day! Right, off to Asda!

Hmmm, wouldn't touch one if they're made out of polyester.

Lets be serious here, it's £35, it's not going to be wool is it. There are suits out there 4 or more times the price that are made of polyester. So that does not make it a bad deal at all.
#25
I like some of Primarks stuff - got some nice clothes from time to time... specially when it looks identical to M&S versions which can be 5 times the Primark price tag!

Hhhhmmm. Since our great leader Tony (praise him!) had the declared aim of getting 50% of current youth into university I wouldn't set too much store on the 'intelligence' of those claiming to be students. In this instance the posters use of grammar, spelling and punctuation is (perhaps) indicative of the level required for entry to uni but means they won't get beyond the first year (unless they're doing media studies I suppose ;-) ).
I wonder how many students attend a sufficient number of black tie events which also attract 'models' that would mean it was worth buying a DJ? Ah, the marvellous olfactory odour of bovine ordure is truly redolent in this youfs post :p

BTW I'd just like to register a protest against the Americanisation of this form of dress. In the UK we wear Dinner Jackets for black tie, tuxedo is what the yanks wear. I thank you!

Polyester stands out if it's been ironed badly and ends up shining. Be careful with the iron and try keep it as cool as possible.

But wool will shine as well and needs a hot iron to take out the creases. Put a bit of cloth between the iron sole plate and the material (tea towel is good). They used to sell ironing clothes which had a dull and a shiny side but not seen them in years.

I occasionally wear/buy items of clothing from ASDA so does my long term girlfriend.

Oh and she's a part-time model although I do not understand the model reference you used. I know plenty of women and can honestly say none of them pick a potential partner on his brand of suit.

I wont be buying a tux as I would feel and most probably look like a butler or circus ring leader.....

I own and run a tailors. We also sell off the peg clothing but specialise in brands that are of very high quality without going into the designer brand market eg. Boss and Armani as you are paying too much money for the name.
These suits are not from the same factory as the Boss ones. These will be from a sweat shop paying pennies per suit to its workers.
You can buy a very good pure wool evening suit that is teflon coated for around £139.95.
You CAN buy brands that are made in the same factory as Boss eg. Roy Robson for around £220.
We find any brands that are producing suits that can retail for under £100 are of very poor quality. 100% polyester can look ok but isn't nice to wear. It will go shiny if it isn't already and fabric isn't the only concern with a cheap suit.
Its your usual supermarket trying to muscle in on other businesses and killing off your local high street buy offering cheap rubbish.

Then you obviously haven't been to thiland, they offer suites about the same price as this, using the same material. They are the same quality actually better. So no your not better of buying the original brands. I've had many a suite made in thiland.

Anyway not to trail of the OP, I've just been to asda today and thought that it looks fantastic, this is a great buy and not one to miss.

Not being in the industry my knowledge will clearly not be as expansive as yours, you will note from my post that I used the word 'probably' when refering to the factories in which the suits are made.

I think you are missing the point here a little, this site is dedicated to good deals and this is a good deal. Please, if you feel a suit for £139.95 is a good deal, by all means, post a thread and see what kind of reaction it gets. Everybody knows you could walk into M&S and get a 100% wool tux for around £150.

I appreciate that it is increasingly hard for independents, but it's easy to blame the supermarkets.

I have one of these suits now and the quality really is good for the amount of money you are paying.

Actually we are in business with a tailor in Thiland and have been for many years. We use them to offer an introductory price made to measure suit.
You honestly think this suit looks as good as ones you've had made in Thiland?:giggle:

I know this is a great deal for a tux and deserves to be posted on this site as it is a good alternative to hireing one but don't compare it to a good quality suit as you are just misleading people.

This was featured on This Morning (20.11.07) with fantastic reviews (they talked about the fit, the tailoring, & price. Nothing but positive comments!)

Picked up one tonight. I wear Boss, Armani and Ted Baker suits which obviously are very nice but they are not £35.

My GF is a model and she thought it was fantastic and as she keeps saying it's not always about the label it's about the fit. If it fits good then it looks good, you look good and the label doesn't matter

yes but they are cheap quality...though boss suits are way overpriced....i had a made to measure silk wool tux made in Bangkok Thailand by a company recommended by BA....cost less than £100 but the quality and fit were superb esp for the money.
