EDIT: should make it clear this is in store only afaik.

Aldi are selling off the TVonics DVR-FP250. It's a twin tuner, British designed and made PVR and a former Which Best Buy (December 2007).

Key Features
* Stylish design and Massive 250GB Hard Disk.
* Built in Freeview receiver - no need for a separate freeview box.
* Record and Store up to 125 hours of Digital TV and Radio.
* One touch record.
* Rewind and Pause live Digital TV.
* Record one channel while watching another.
* Start to watch recordings before the recording has finished.
* Twin Tuner.
* Twin SCART.
* 8 day electronic programme guide provides TV and Radio listings on screen for a full week ahead.
* High gloss black aluminium finish.
* Parental Control.
* Universal Remote Control capable of operating most TV and DVD brands.
* Energy efficient and low power standby (less than 20W operating, less than 3W standby).

More info here: http://www.tvonics.com/dvrfp250.html

These usually sell on the TVonics site for around £189.99: http://www.tvonics.com/sdvrfp250.html

Hurry though I can't imagine they'll be around for long at that price for a twin tuner, 250Gb PVR that supports Freeview playback: http://www.freeviewplayback.co.uk/.

EDIT: should make it clear this is in store only afaik.

In store only mate :thumbsup:.

There were only a few left in Nottingham when I checked, as the nice lady in store phoned round the local stores to ask for me. I couldn't tell you about other areas though.

Thanks for that - I just clicked on the link saying "Go to Deal" assuming that would direct me...

As i understood it, with this recorder you cannot record two channels at once even though it has got 2 tuners, you can only record one and watch one for some reason. Other wise good reviews.

True, but for a decent one that does that you are looking at the Humax 9200T's which are around £60 more for 90Gb less capacity or a Topfield which are over £100 more expensive. The machine reviews very well, is very energy efficient and seems to be a very well made and thought out system, much better than the usual <£100 fare. So at the end of the day it depends wheter or not you think that recording multiple channels at the same time is a £60+ feature or not. As I am used to only being able to record the one thing at once on analogue with VHS this is a huge step up in features for me (I just love being able to pause live TV, great for making a quick cuppa or trip to the loo) and just I can't justify the extra for something like the Humax. :thumbsup:

Maybe you're not asking the right questions :-D.

Seriously though, the only places I know for sure have them are a couple of the Nottingham stores because I had to find one for myself, but then I didn't look for any outside of Nottingham as there are quite a few stores close to where I live and in the end I had the choice of a few to go to. Even then I had to go into the store and point at one before they knew what I was talking about. The first store I went in oddly enough only had a box, very handy for pointing at and saying "one of those", after that it was easy :thumbsup:.

It's the same model that was in this ALDI deal 6 months ago: http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/73987/digital-tv-recorder-250gb-149-99-al/all/all/hot/ and the same model that is £199.97 from Tesco: http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.100-5128.aspx if that helps.......

EDIT: I'll try to see if there's a product code or something on the reciept tonight, that might help your search.

The TVonics is also branded as Wharfedale and Argos have been selling the 160Gb version for half price (£74.99). THAT would be a bargain if it was in stock :-(

Just visited my local store at Stockport, in there they are £150 but there are none in stock as they have apparently been recalled due to a fault, may bee the reason other stores are selling them off, anyone else found them at the lower price???

Ok so there's no obvious product code on the reciept, it just says "DIGITAL TV RECORDER 99.99B", hope that helps someone.

For reference this: http://img481.imageshack.us/img481/395/tvonicsoe3.jpg is the original flyer from when ALDI first started doing them at the higher price, as mentioned the price has since come down.

£25 for an extra 90Gb, support direct from TVonics which you don't get with the re-branded Warfdale and actually in stock in some stores, now that IS a bargain :thumbsup:.

I did a lot of looking into these before buying one on DIgitalSpy, AVForums, Which? etc. as I'd never heard of the company before. There's been no recall to my knowledge and a quick Google for "tvonics recall" brings up nothing. From what I've read they're very reliable, well built, well designed machines, with good support and I must admit so far my experience has been pretty good with it. The only compalints I've heard are about the lack multi-channel recording and lack of USB connection. There is however, from what I understand, a new model due out soon, so that's a more likely explaination for the price drop.
