i voted hot but now i dont think its a good deal after seeing the very low resolution of 320x240 and its not USB2. poor reviews on amazon and play.com
microdirect says the resolution is 640 x 480 http://www.microdirect.co.uk/home/product/18510/Philips-webcam-SPC210NC?source=googleps
and poor expert review translated from french by altatest http://alatest.co.uk/expert-reviews/web-camera-reviews/philips-spc210nc/pe3-34410102,88/

According to the french review the video resolution is 320 x 240 pixels and the photo resolution is 640x480 basically not even one megapixel, my advice spend a lil extra and buy something you will be more satisfied with such as this logitech e1000 1.3mp for £10 delivered http://www.whsmith.co.uk/CatalogAndSearch/ProductDetails-Logitech+QuickCam+E1000-33138084.html or £8.49 delivered on ebay item number 260485348658

Resolution of the camera has nothing to do with msn and skype. msn skype etc are just programs that ouput the video from the webcam so to get a good picture on a low resolution webcam the webcam window has to be small so the picture is not pixelated or blurry. So you can get this camera and use it for video conference in a full screen window it just wont be as clear as more expensive camera with higher megapixel.

Just like most MSN windows :) \at least you gave a reason.. Which is fair enough. Thanks for the feedback.

heres the amazon 2 star review http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B000IZK0EI/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1
2 star play.com review http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3255995/Philips-SPC210NC-PC-Web-Camera/ProductReviews.html
i think it might be ok for a small msn window but if you want full screen and a better mic i suggest you look elsewhere.

I got this webcam yesterday (ordered from another shop) and it is good for the price. Good colour and automatic exposure adjustment. Obviously creates a small video picture but it is just right for Skype etc. I don't know if Skype can make use of higher res webcams than this one?

I installed on Vista using the drivers downloaded from Philips website.

There are a lot of high res webcams on the market but if you read the specs they can't capture at 30 frames per sec at the highest resolution hence you don't get a smooth video image unless you use a smaller resolution.

If you want to be spoiled for choice for cheap webcams... Dealextreme.com has loads - probably wise to pick on with a decent review too. For example, Mine was about £10 for a 2Mp one, and it has been excellent. I use that one as a security camera!

For something as feeble as the one in this thread, you would pay less than 7 US Dollars... so they are little over 4 quid anyway, I don't think I would bother at all with something so feeble, when for very little more, you can get a 1.3Mp model, or better. The differnce is very noticeable, especially now most have Broadband so can transmit better quality picture without the talk breaking up. Many webcams now need NO DRIVERS too, which means no setup palaver at all!
I know some don't like Dealextreme, (or in my case I don't like buying abroad at all) but there is little risk with something so cheap
