Lemon make pretty good, cheap & reliable LNBs, so would imagine this being a good bit of kit for the money.

Remember if you are interested in this, or anything else from Maplin, go onto there website and sign up for the newsletter and you'll receive money off vouchers which will bring this down by another £7.

I will never understand why satellite pvr's are so much more expensive than freeview pvr's.

Decent price but i hate buying from Maplin.
They are cr*p if you ever want to return items.

Last time i got deducted 20% as i took it back after 2 weeks! (unused). Also despite paying in cash i had to wait 10 days for a refund from their H/O as they did not refund in store?????? (Glasgow St.Enoch Sq.) This was confirmed by their H/O when i called to complain about the 20% charge.

Just wanted to get that off my chest....AAHhhhhh...

You're joking - post a link or it ain't true - I've had a look and could only see a Humax Freeview PVR for that price. :whistling:

This seems a very good price for a Satellite PVR.

N.B. This is a Free-to-air receiver - so will only receive now-and-next epg information (which sort adefats the purpose of a PVR). If you want a full 7-day epg you need a sky box or freesat PVR.

Hi chaps, I only need to record about one programme a month so am looking for the cheapest route possible so I can get away with a small HD, (I have a new hdmi upscale dvd player) ... any thoughts please, what about a sky box off ebay (I don't want to subscribe to sky ... will it work stand alone) ? or are there any other options open to me ... thanks to all you guys for your continuing advice ... I'm a little bit of a ludite when it comes to tvs and stuff. Regards Roger

You might get a better response if you post a query in the misc section.
This deal is for a twin-tuner satellite PVR - it's not the freesat type - so you won't get an epg - just the now and next display (meaning recording your occasional program won't be so easy). If you are in a good freeview reception area (or already have a suitable aerial) you can pick up Freeview PVRs cheaper than this and they will have an epg. PVRs do not generally allow you to trasnsfer to DVD - I think the reason csiman suggested a Humax PVR in another thread is that it can output / connect to a PC so you can use the PC to record to DVD.

There are cheap options for doing this - For one room I bought a cheap (£50 refurbished) JVC 160Gb HDD / DVD recorder - (only upscales to 1080p though) - it isn't freeview but has an epg and by it's G-link cable I control my cheap (£18) freeview box - it's fine for occasional recordings - unfortunately I'll need a new solution by 2012 as I rely on analogue to populate the epg.

Thanks wombat, good of you to take the time. I'll follow up your suggestions. Roger
