2 for £15 @ screwfix - but masterplug is a more recognised brand? Might be worth mentioning the brand in your post OP?!

Heat added 8)

Yes...but very little power when a device isn't plugged. You really need to get a good branded USB wall socket too, better the wall socket, less power when USB isn't in use.

there is 2 versions of this socket with different codes. the one you have linked to with the square edge and also a round edge one.

Can't see this offer on the screwfix website. Do you have a link? Thanks.

Dont think the offer is still on at Screwfix however I have fitted many of these from there and they are decent quality. If you are considering fitting one by yourself be aware that many other brands have a fuller back making them in some circumstances difficult to fit if space is limited due to the existing wires , the ones from screwfix are as slim as you can get.

Not keen if the USB draw current even when not in use. Ok if you have something plugged in 24/7. Is there any units that can switch off the USB sockets when not in use?

if you take the usb cable out, should be OK.

None have the ability to power off the USB ports. Why are you concerned??

I don't get the point, they are more expensive even if you buy 2????/

would the USB ports allow quick charging for android phones?

The output is 2.1A shared across both ports so if charging one then yes, the phone would charge quickly but if you try charging 2 phones then no.

I would also rather go for this one because the USB sockets are 3.1 amps.

A guy who works for screwfix told me that at some point in the near future they will be selling 5A usb sockets, 2.5A shared meaning 2 iPad/tablet fast charges. Some devices limit the current drawn in though anyway.

I guess some sort of power draw will occur by the circuitry when not in use. I guess if its a couple of pence a week/month then fine.

A guy who works at nasa told me men will be on mars in the near future

An iPad draws 2.1A so at most 1 iPad/tablet at a time, not 2. If 2 are plugged in they may not charge at all or very slowly. Other features like fast charge are not supported and this will become obsolete as usb c rolls out.

Those have a 3.1 total power availability instead of 2.1, as in the submitted sockets and most others.

You can expect a tablet to use around 2.1 charging and a phone around 1.0, so those more expensive ones will charge a tablet and phone at full pelt simultaneously.

No, they don't power on until something is attached and they will go off when charged.

I think a 5A USB socket is more likely

My iPad Air 2 draws 3a. I have measured it with one of those inline USB testers. So you're gonna get around 2/3 charging rate with just an iPad plugged in, slower still if shared with another device.

Don't see the point of these really, the output is too low even for current devices, and with faster charging becoming more commonplace these are pretty redundant already. I guess it's fine for overnight charging but I'd honestly take a good multiport USB charger like the Anker or Aukey ones over these.

Quick Charge 2.0 onwards uses 9v so these would not support quick charge.
