There is no official AMLogic firmware for Android 6.0. Anything running it will be using a buggy firmware which has known issues like DTS passthrough not working.

You can boot libreelec from sdcard with s905x or flash the nand. I have it booting from sdcard and reboot back to android from kodi.

Does the remote still work on libreelec?

There is an SDK that allows for firmware to be build.

DTS passthrough does work with the supplied Kodi.

Librelec works pretty well too.

How does it deal with 265 codac?

just out of curiosity...I have the m8s 2 android box and the wifi it the 2.4ghz only (there is no 5ghz as it is not dual band). do you reckon a small nano wifi dongle can work with it?

currently have issues with slow Internet due to the 2ghz bandwidth and thinking that the dongle may solve this?

M8s is about the same price and has 2Gb ram, cold from me.

Is there no possibility of using a set of Home Plugs like these? Might work out a bit more expensive but there's no need to worry about WiFi any more.

I have had 4 of these (or similar) and all have struggled over WIFI, with some it’s a known issue. I have also tried them with a mini dongle and it wasn’t much better. The only way I get them to work effectively is to use Ethernet cable, if you struggle with range, I used a TP Link repeater and plugged the cable in from that, works an absolute dream.

The state of play for Android Kodi Boxes:

1) There is no Kodi Android source code maintainer
2) See point (1)
3) See point (2)
4) Individual, well supported, Android Hardware platforms , are now doing their own thing because of Points (1), (2) and (3)
5) There is so much differentiation with Android Hardware itself that it is now impossible to get Kodi working properly on unsupported devices.
6) The most accelerated bug busting development I have seen for AMLogic Hardware now resides with the LibreELEC AML guys.
7) No one really cares about unsupported Android Boxes, they waste everyone's time trying to fix.
8) Kodi developers would actually like to see Kodi Android Pirate boxes die a horrible death ! (see point (3) for proof)
9) These cheap Android sellers will gladly take your money and Run. They simply don't care about anything else. Ship and forget.

Users are most welcome to buy cheap, unsupported Android hardware, but the knowledgable Kodi guys that can help simply don't have the time and simply no longer care about providing free support. Its a pointless, fruitless exercise.

Deals with it fine, with the box i have 2/16 S905X.
Just Dolby/DTS have a hiccup every 7 seconds. You can always switch the audio in kodi to stereo and then it's fine.

I have this box... it is not dual band and therefore only uses 2.4ghz (slow wifi but longer distance). Most of these boxes seem to have the same specs which is a little annoying.

hi thanks alot of this! Might give it a try after observing how the box performs over time with its connectivity. I just used a wifi dongle and soo far getting speeds between 10-25mbps. (I am assuming it is using the dongle for using the wifi instead of the antenna inside the box) I might be wrong. let me know your thoughts.

The Nvidia Shield is perhaps the best supported but it has been OOS at most places for a while. Whilst the Fire TV is well supported as a system there is a chance that Amazon could block sideloading at any point.

Hi, correct, you can use wifi dongle but make sure buy one that says it works on these boxes. I would still use a long Ethernet cable to test 1st.. this is the best way for me.

Everyone goes on about Kodi which is good but for films and box sets terrarium.tv is the best app by far. Works really well on these boxes, simple interface and very easy to navigate, if you have an android tablet or phone try it 1st. Just my opinion of course, others my say otherwise.
