Tyre shopper 5% discount on all tyres over £200 spend

3
Just received email from Tyre Shopper advising an extra 5% of any tyres when you spend £200 or more. I recently bought some Cross climates through these and they were by far the cheapest at the time.

Budget tyres I've sworn by them for years but always check the reviews first . Some of you might have herd of kuhmo or nexen or linglong all started as cheap budgets until they got established.

I will admit nexens n8000 are very good cheap tyres, had them a few times but now tyres have come down in price I go for Goodyear eagle f1's imo best tyres u can buy.

You can get 4 tyres for from £95 fitted at National as they offer buy 1 get 1 free (on selected tiny sizes) at the moment, I think that has to be a deal !!
Updated your post for you. :)
thanks sorry i was looking for 175/65/14 for my car 8)

Like for like with the OP's deal it's £141. Most people want new valve, don't have a balancer at home and don't want to take their old tyres home.

While I'm on a rant (lol) it does annoy me that they keep calling it 'wheel balancing'. No, its tyre balancing! It's balancing out the imperfections in the tyre manufacture. You want me to pay 10%-15% of the tyre price to sort out a product issue!

I don't get charged extra at the cafe to scrape the burnt off the toast!

Good post highlighting some good alternatives. I specifically needed the 205 size to match the existing tyres on the rear of my car. The Federal 595 RS-R certainly looks like they would be fun to experience on a cold wet day!
Ah sorry, I voted it cold on the wim. Maybe on reflection it isnt that bad.
I would normally buy it online and pay locals to fit it. (depending on your location its between £8-16 per tyre fitting)

Also if I had to go with that specific profile I would go with this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1x-Summer-KUMHO-ECSTA-SPT-KU31-205-50R15-86V-FSL-/381368819149?fits=Tyre+Width%3A205%7CAspect+Ratio%3A50%7CRim+Diameter%3A15&hash=item58cb5a5dcd

Or if you want to spend a little more -
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1x-Summer-BRIDGESTONE-POTENZA-ADR-RE002-205-50R15-86W-/351358649714?fits=Tyre+Width%3A205%7CAspect+Ratio%3A50%7CRim+Diameter%3A15&hash=item51ce9b8572

...Or if you want silly stiff tyres and and exciting moments in the rain:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-Federal-595-RS-R-Tyres-Track-Day-Race-Road-205-50-R15-89W-XL-ALL-SIZES-/231408523662?fits=Tyre+Width%3A205%7CAspect+Ratio%3A50%7CRim+Diameter%3A15&hash=item35e105d98e

(but I would go 195, or 215 for market demand of tyres)

Tyre wear update****
Had these tyrea fitted on the front of my mondeo. Done about 12000 mls in 6 months and still plenty of thread left (about 5mm). Tyres had great dry and wet grip so I can't complain about that however, both tyres were constantly underinflated. Had the valves replaced twice and still the same. After MOT I sent the tyres back to Bridgestone as I had an advisory stating that both of them are cracking on the interrior. After about 2 months I received a letter saying that it was my fault for the tyres cracking as I ran them underinflated. In retrospect, I am happy with how much miles I got out of them for the price paid although I feel kinda cheated. Im running pirrellis now and they never needed inflating since I fitted them.
cliosport65
great tyres
Why are they great? It all depends on the criteria you apply to your purchase. It looks a terrible tred pattern for the wet and the dry performance would be down to the compound (a good grippy compound I would not expect to last no more than 6000 miles).

Similar price at tyreleader http://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyres/bridgestone/potenza-adrenalin-re002/235-40-r18-95w-72443 .....just have to get them fitted at your choice of local garage (usually £5 to £10 all in).
This is a good price. Just looking around I think most of the tyres for this size seem to be lower than when I was looking around in October last year for my Mondeo.
Also note that Kwik Fit have the Goodyear Eagle F1 for ~£121 fitted with £20 cashback if you buy 2 and Michelin Pilot sport 3 are ~£125 each no cash back though. Asda tyres had these Bridgestones at £111 fitted so this is a good deal.

My advice would be to stay well clear of tyreshopper and national tyres. Terrible companies. Full details here:

https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/550be0510000ff0002d65bdd
Good price for that particular tyre though personally would have went for the £50-£55 mark and gone for Goodyear or Pirelli's P1/P4. Avon's rarely ever make any top ten tyre buys and these in particular are quite a noisy tyre and terrible in the wet (Live in N.Ireland its always wet lol). Hot anyhow since cheap price.

Edited By: cecilmcroberts on Apr 06, 2015 22:01
Tyre shopper is national tyres just a subsidiary company
Tyre Shopper use National for fitting. Don't believe there is any other link between the companies. I used to use them all the time until National f....d four of my alloy wheels. Manager of the branch arranged for a refurbishment, still waiting. He told me there is no direct link between the companies.

just bought these, thanks op!
Fitting a V rated tyre will not invalidate your insurance unless your driving at more than double the speed limit which is what the tyres are rated at.
Great tyres, I have the larger 225 on an Audi TT front end they are very good. Had on for a year now and a ton of tread left.
I agree these don't last very long at all - pay some more and get another brand. I had a pair that lasted just 15k miles which is 5-10k less than I usually get

My Audi A4 needs W speed tyres. If I fitted these (V) would it invalidate my insurance if I was in an accident?
Check with your insurer. From Blackcircles' website:
Effect on Car Insurance

It is very important that you check your speed rating before buying tyres. Choosing a tyre with a lower rating than is appropriate for your car can invalidate your insurance.

http://www.blackcircles.com/general/speedrating

Don't forget to fill up with Nitrogen instead as well. Air is only 78% nitrogen and has impurities like oxygen etc! LOL

As the National speed limit is 70mph, it is legal to fit lower speed ratings provided you do not exceed those speed limits.

Blackcircles just say it "can" invalidate your insurance. They simply want you to spend more money.....

:D

I see your point. It's a real grey area on the internet it seems.

This is from Parkers http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/advice/news/archive/Is-your-insurance-valid/:
Driving with the wrong, or illegal tyres

By retrofitting a car, that came standard with run-flat tires with normal tyres, you can invalidate some policies as insurers see it as a modification. In most instances it's simply a case of telling them the change has been made. Fitting tyres that have a lower speed rating can also void a policy as they may not be suitable for use on that vehicle.

I suppose as long as you can claim that the lower speed tyres are suitable (and safe) for your car then you'll be fine. I imagine most insurance companies would be fine. Maybe worth informing them though, just to be on the safe side and avoiding the worst-case scenario of them invalidating your insurance in a claim.

Amazingly, it becomes very black and white if you'd just ring your insurer up. :p

My tyres were cheaper pretty much everywhere else unfortunately ..
Hi, I am aware that it is not the cheapest in the market. F1 Autocentre offer cheaper than them. But, I can't find anywhere that could offer the Lifetime Tyre Guarantee. Because I had a bad experience of having to buy another new tyre to replace a 2-month-old tyre due to the punctual happen at the edge of the tyres.

With the Tyre Guarantee, I am cover on punctual repair or replacement. Paying £7.50 to take the risk away from me, I think it is well worth it.

But, Watch out on their Wheel alignment. They claimed to have the best and the most accurate Wheel alignment machine, but it is the worst. Both of my front tyres worn out on the outer edge, National Tyres checked the tracking and said it is within tolerance, but another 2 independent garages checked the tracking and said it is miles out.

I'll only use the advantages of the Tyre Guarantee by buying the tyres from the tyreshopper, but get all the alignment check / done when need be from other garages.
I know they're the spawn of the devil but if it's more convenient Kwik Fit will price match online suppliers including Asda Tyres (as mentioned by a previous poster) and Costco, have had them match both of these in the past few years.
Same tyre here for £71.50 fitted.......

ETB 205 55 16
Halfords will do them for £69.82 each provided you buy 2 or more tyres and you can get 5.05% at TCB if you book online. Unfortunately the free wheel alignment check & adjust offer that I used last month has now ended.

how many miles do you get out of a set of RFTs

my first set on my 520d did 30k

The rears on my 330d lasted around 25k (including a 2500 mile "spirited" driving holiday around Europe). The key is keeping the pressure maintained. I run mine at the full load recommended pressure (3.0 bar front and 3.5 bar rear), and check fortnightly the ride and handling are fine for road use.

Previous rear set lasted 15k, ran at lower pressures with infrequent monitoring!

Cheaper supplied here and paying a grease monkey £25 to fit them

Four tyres from tyretraders comes in at £170.62 delivered to your house. Then you have to pay someone to fit them...places around my way are not interested unless you buy the tyres through them- and you can get all FOUR tyres fitted for 30 quid or less. If you cannot get them fitted for less than 30 quid and/or don't fancy having four tyres delivered to your door which you then have to take to a place to get fitted i reckon this Tyre Shoppers is still the best bet.

As I said, find a grease monkey for £20-£25 in most garages.

You can say what you like but it doesn't make it so. You reckon you can find someone to fit, balance and dispose of your four tyres at 5 quid a corner...right well ok then. If you do manage that ..cough cough..then you might save £5. I Am sticking to the facts not random opinions so with all due respect to you I will do it my way.:)

I get my winters put on for £5 per side.. £2.50 on £2.50 off is what they charge at speedys wheels (a few nationwide), Other companies wanted to charge £20+ per side when I rang around, so there are some that take the P but ring around and youll find somewhere that will do it at the lower price

Good deal for no nonsense fitted tyres.

Possibly, people buy cheap due to their budget or are unaware of the differences between tyres or baffled by them.

Only yesterday I had a pair of part worn (with 7mm tread) Michelin Energy fitted - costing a total of £65 but, a pair of New Uniroyal Rainsport 2's work out at just over £72 delivered (thanks to post further up) but not fitted - compared to tyreshoppers price of over £60 each.

I have used Michelin Energy tyres for a long time. Aswell as being fuel efficient (depending on how heavy ur foot is) but also provide excellent grip when cornering or u need to brake heavily and also in the wet.

I find that branded tyres perform far better than budget one's even when worn.

As others have said above, Tyres are the only item that have direct contact with the road.
I've also heard good things about Falken tyres and they seem to be good value in larger low profile sizes than other high rated brands.
Btw it's not just the Far East manufacturers that bend the truth with regards to MPG, Fords new eco-boost engines are getting no where near the official claims and neither did the Fiat 500 twinair. Seems to be the German diesels that get the closest.
chapchap

Yes the new eu stuff is a start but only covers 3 points and please link to those fantastic tyres you mentioned please?

Falken Ziex ZE914 is the tyre i was refering to.

I agree with oddballjamie and many others here. The Euro rating is not perfect, but they are there for every layman to understand. It is like something is better than nothing. Moreover as i said before, manufacturers cant overstate their claim beyond certain levels (may be some do like Hyundai / Kia do in MPG case).

If a car is only driven for 3k miles a year since new after 7 years will only have 21k miles and may also have a top brand tyre that came with it, but weather would have played havoc on the tires reducing its comfort and grip considerably. Any cheap brand tyre will run circles around it. It is always better to check the manufacturing date on the tyres when u buy a car even if the tread looks ok to the naked eye. Also the common reduction of grip is caused by over-inflation of tyres, when people try to get a few more MPG.

To stamp a tyre manufacturer based on one tyre model is not the right thing. Every model of tyres have different tread patterns and formula's going in. Manufacturers also need to balance the amount of nylon tread/SBR/natural rubber/carbon/sulphur e.t.c based on the target price. Iran used to provide pretty good quality SBR and Carbon at ultra competitive prices, but now they cant sell to the west due to sanctions. This is one of the reason chinese tyres cost less at the same quality. If the europen manufactured tyres have to be sold cheap competing with chinese, they have to cut corners affecting the quality.

When I was selling/PXing my ST it needed 2 new front tyres just before I sold it (due to a Ford fault!!) and the only things they could get at short notice were Nexen. I wouldn't say they were that cheap as IIRC they were about £90 each and whilst they were OK in the dry they were very poor in the wet and not a patch on the Toyo's that were fitted before that and the Toyo is only a mid-range tyre. Whilst the Nexen were not dangerous they were pretty crap in any weather and noticably slippier in the dry than the Toyo.Premium brands are classed as Michelin, Bridgestone and Continental I believe and maybe Pirelli.Kumho are cheap crap. ;)

Well you probably saw my experience with the Michelin MXV's but I agree with you that those brands are probably more "likely" to provide you with a better driving experience overall.

My mums current car, a little KIA Picanto, recently had the front tyres changed for Continentals from the standard Kumho or Hankook (I forget which) and I honestly can't say they were any improvement in grip, road noise or economy.

I'm pretty sure once you get the HP up with more performance oriented machines, tyres become much more critical.

These are the tyres fitted to our Hyundai Entourage (more Korean crap... :p ):

I would walk away from any used car that is for sale, fitted with cheap and nasty tyres.

My thoughts are that if the owner was happy to skimp on tyres, what else has been skimped on.

My thoughts exactly, going to look at a car with 4 different brands screams don't buy!

Usually if the car has a matching set of tyres, the rest of the car is in good nick!

Not really, there are plenty of reasons why tyres would be mismatched all it takes is a puncture! you're not going to replace a perfectly good tyre just to have a matched set i'd hope.
Don't people repair punctures anymore? You'd have to be pretty unlucky to have three non-repairable punctures at different times.

Four different tyres on a cheap car screams part worns to me.
