The banners are only for the web diversion method aren't they? This seems to be more for re-directing to blog type sites, such as Wordpress. It says you can upgrade to non-banner version for a fee.

Changing the nameservers is different (and free as far as I can tell). This is the method I would use, if I use GoDaddy.

You also get a banner that you need to pay £11.99 to remove (this charge can be avoided by removing with javascript breakout script)
Sub domains like subdomain.mywebsite.com become uk2net advertisements unless you pay for the nameserver control. Google even started indexing these advertisements higher than my website ! I still have some domains but would look to move them away if I were to actually actively use them

No banner on any of my domains, and no sub domains. Proof?!
uk2.net are a **** ass company i use to work for them and can say your better off buying elsewhere they have the worst email system ever had to leave their too much headache because of problems

So I go on GoDaddy and type in the domain name I've bought from UK2 earlier today and it says it is available (for £2.99 a year)

What would happen if I bought this?
Go to http://nominet.org.uk and put your domain in their WHOIS box. If it says it yours, its yours, if it says it is not registered then anybody can register it.
Had endless trouble with UK2. Have moved elsewhere and will never go back.

AVOID UK2... proper internet cowboys. :whistling:

i bought a domin from them but buried in the pages of small print is a clause that says you must display UK2 adverts on your site. there is no way to remove them. I had to transfer the domain and it cost me a fortune and a load of hassle. UK2 where horrible to deal with.

I'm looking to get my first domain name soon (.co.uk). Can anyone tell me of any traps to avoid?

Keep away from UK2.

That £1.99 a year would be for a .co.uk .org.uk domain.

.co.uk & .org.uk domains are £3.98 from 1&1. Quidco is £2. Total Cost £1.98

.co.uk & .org.uk domains are £8.96 from UK2. Quidco is £3.50. Total Cost £5.46

That is clearly unbeatable by UK2 - infact that is a stunning price from 1&1.
.com & .net domains are £10.45 a year from 1&1. Quidco is £2. Total Cost = £8.45

.com & .net domains are about £11.73 a year from UK2. Quidco is £3.50. Total Cost = £8.23

UK2 works out cheaper here - just...
The thing that makes this deal good is it is Buy One Get One Free and that Quidco seems to track on the free domain too!

There's alot of additional cost with uk2.net. The above package is for just 5 email forwards and webpage diversion with a great big uk2.net banner on the page.

Catch all email is £4.99 a month
More than 5 forward email addresses £1.42 a month
Web diversion without banner £1.00 a month

This is all included with 1and1 in the basic price ( includes 100 email forwards including a catch all ).

All very expensive for anything but a very basic domain package.

Could you explain in a bit more detail what your problem was, I am thinking of getting a dedicated server and I have submitted a test support ticket which was answered in under 5 minutes.

Thanks
