3TB WD Caviar Green - £50.42 - Amazon Dispatched from and sold by UKStocked.

While browsing for a new hard drive i came across this, good price saying it goes for £80+ most other places so quite a good deal.

Prices look as if they've been amended.
HUKD
Because the vendor has sold out, presumably.
I grabbed 2 as in impulse purchase (these are around 45% cheaper than the WD Red drives I'd been eyeing). When I first saw the price, there were 7, with my 2 gone there'd probably be 5 left which won't have lasted long at all.
Now, like a few other people who've bought, I've spent the last 20 minutes panicking and reading everything that came up on Google under "WD Caviar Green Failure Rate". (I'm gonna risk it)
Thanks for the heads-up, OP. :)
The Green range uses 7 platters, more platters tends to mean more failures as more moving parts. Unfortunately the Green has quite high failure rates by WD standards so I avoided this one, regardless of the price, most data is priceless.

Nahhh...

(Btw ignore that communications problem message. Its showed that since the day i turned it on)
Anyone who ordered one and was waiting for it to be dispatched will be glad to know they have dispatched them (i received a email saying mine have been dispatched, they was waiting on a back order)

Where did you read it has 7 platters? Used WD Green with no problems - just change the head parking time-out and they work fine. Sure buy Red if you have the money.

Do you need to change the head park time unless the drive is used in a RAID?
Are there even any drives with as many as 7 platters?
This is likely a 3 platter drive

There is no premium and not abt hdmi all works the same way so good price to me

No one said there is a premium. The poster said they are premium meaning (supposedly) better quality.

What do you mean "abt"?

Bought this case last year, great case for the price, comes with plenty of fans, and you'd be surprised how much dust gets clogged on the dust filter!

Yup that front filter does a real good job, just a shame about the access to it but it does keep a lot of dust out.
Not a bad case for the money.
Bought this for £30 last year. Fantastic Case
my graphics card dosent fit the wires are so hard to cable manage if the hardrive bays didnt exist id be fine
have this case love it! hutchy how much space do u need?
I have this case and do not like it if you want to put a good sized graphics card the hardrive bays get in the way and making cable management very hard for this case I would not recommend

It's back on Amazon at just under £140.

It came with a UK plug and (I think) a Euro plug too so will be able to use it when going to Europe.

Hope it helps.

I am totally fed up with my BT Homehub4 - constant disconnections etc - would this be a good upgrade?

It wouldn't work. This is just a router, not an ADSL modem and router.

You would need an ADSL modem such as a TP-Link TD-8817 in bridge mode (£13 from Amazon). I use a similar setup with a RT-N66U and it is very reliable.

many thanks - would it be a noticeable improvement?

I have been playing with a Home Hub 5 and the range is rubbish in comparison to my RT-N66U so I would expect similarly good performance from the RT-AC66U. Also it should be very stable. I suspect the Home Hub range is bad because it has internal PCB antennas. I intend to try a conversion to external antennas over the next week or so.

Thanks for that - it would be great to hear how you get on with the conversion.

Conversion is now delayed by a week or so, as only 2 of the 3 RP-SMC cables I ordered from the US arrived with the final cable now posted.

why so cold?
Matty1255
I have the 1500 headset and the mic is terrible and the speakers have a slight buzz, god knows what the wireless set sounds like probably x10 worse.

I also have the 1500... Sounds like yours were faulty.

I did however notice the wire breaks VERY easily... so I am glad to have purchased one of these

I've had both the 1500s and the 2000s, and the 2000s are far, far better in terms of sound performance, comfort, and mic quality.

Yours sound like they were faulty, imo.

I have one of these and don't have a wps button on router. Just plug into socket, connect Ethernet cable and follow instructions to set up. Then can be moved around the house at any time as it will remember the pairing and connect after a few seconds. Perfect for extending anywhere in the premises you own and full connectivity. Definitely recommend this. Heat added.

cheers for the response

can these be paired with a router without wps via a cable first? then plugged in upstairs seperately later on??

are these any good for extending the wireless range of the virgin superhub?
ive got the Huawei extender and was a set up within 2mins using the WPS button on the superhub, and now get 80-100% signal in the part of the house where I was only get 25-30%. worth the investment imo

*not tried this model mind...tho...Im tempted*

I think its a hit and miss - I am tech savvy and tried many ways to connect my Huawei extender but had no joy

I would like to know if anybody has this model and knows if it works with the virgin superhub as asked before.

Thanks

These are great little devices. I use them to get my Smart blu ray connected to the internet. Much more reliable than the wifi anyway and I don't have to fork out for a stupid dongle for my blu ray which would cost the same. These aren't supposed to work as well if you use a multi-plug but I haven't had any problems doing so. I think it just lessens the available bandwidth.

where cheaper a while back got two sets for £25.99 it was prise match only lasted one day around a week ago

Nope you didn't, you got the TL-PA411KIT ;)

I got these not so long ago @ £29.99. They're pretty good, but not worth much more than that, I shouldn't have thought.

I believe you are refering to the PA411 which are around that price. These are the faster ones.
These are the 1 gig ones and I bought these a couple of months ago and paid a couple quid more per set. This is the cheapest I have seen them drop. I think the 500/100 have been a little cheaper but not these.
Not seen this model this cheap before Hot for me

Power adaptors have an appalling naming convention. Firstly the gigabit element is for multiple units communicating and not between two points.

Secondly the 500Mbps is a theoretical speed not physically possible even under lab conditions.

Buy these with the knowledge you'd be lucky to get 250Mbps. A quick Google of reviews will confirm. Need to be careful of units. Mbps vs MB/s.
its a Gigabit and the spec is higher than the TL-PA411
cheddarman
Not sure what the difference is but the TL-PA411 version has been posted here recently at around £34.
