Was in the Poundstretcher store in Bletchley over the weekend, and noticed this rather neat looking Smartbook/Netbook, which is available in either Black, White or Pink (Perhaps a useful valentines gift idea?).Bear in mind this isn't a small laptop, and a lot of top end phones can probably do what this does, but with their small keys and screens, they are hardly convenient or practical. This would be ideal for young children, or for those that need portable internet / email access (WiFi hotspots or buy a USB dongle). It's low spec is reflected in it's price, but is fine for it's intended use, which also includes basic office tasks, infact my wife uses an old Dell Latitude CPi laptop for her emails/Facebook, and general web surfing, and it's specs are almost identical, and that runs XP (albeit rather slow!), but it was cheap, and ideal for her to learn on, but it's big, heavy, and clumsy, so this would be more ideal, it all depends on what you want it for, it's low spec, so not for everyone, but afterall it is only £99.99.
This is available nationwide, stores only, as although listed on their website, I couldn't see anyway to order this online.

Windows CE 5.0 (This was the basis of newer OS's like Windows Mobile, but is also used as an embedded system to power devices like Sat Navs and even my old Sega Dreamcast, different version of course as that was over 10 years ago.

might want to save up a bit more for a proper netbook! These never receive good reviews!

I'm amazed this has got heat. Never usually does.

Also cant think of a worse place to buy it from.

Cold. Might be a good price, but for a few quid more you could get a proper netbook

Too true; they're junk.

You should be able to get a 2nd-hand or refurb Acer Aspire One A110 for about the same money.

Talking of the AA1, it seems to be the only laptop that has increased in value of the last 12-18 months!
9 months ago the A110 & A150 were available new from Tesco's for £99/£129.
Today, 2nd hand or refurb, they go for £120/£150!

Shows how much of a bargain the Tesco(9 months ago) & Asda(12 months ago) deals were!

You might do indeed, but there again, there are a lot of people that don't need a 'proper' netbook, so this will do what they want, without having to spend more money, not everyone wants, needs or is interested in playing online games or watching tube vids, so as I say, it all depends on what you need.A lot of people that buy high end laptops, end up doing a lot of very basic stuff, that could easily be done on something much cheaper, and lower spec'd.

So people please vote on the deal, not the specs, if you can find something much better for the same price or less, then fine, otherwise you could always argue that you can get something better for a bit more, be it netbooks, clothes, TV's etc, but in these tough times, if this fits your needs, why pay anymore?.

I guess I better wrap up, it's snowing outside, and this deal looks as if it may get deep frozen!

I'd never go for something loke this in a million years, BUT if all you want is to use the interwobble they're probably ideal... Hoses. Causes, And so on!

I know for a fact I'd be less inclined to jump off a bridge if this fell of the table than a £200+ netbook!

With this sort of deal I think you have to consider more than (for example) a DVD deal.

With a DVD you can say - is this the cheapest copy of this film out there? If yes, then hot, if not then cold. Some people will say "this film's rubbish", but most will then say "but where is it **cheaper**".

With a "netbook" such as this, then that comparison isnt so fair. Because the product is rubbish. At £100 its cheaper than a XP or W7 netbook, but its still expensive given its a pile of garbage. Your granny might buy it for a grandchild, thinking its a real computer, but to everyone else its like the PC version of a Polystation. A "proper" netbook is not much more, and is able to run Windows software, which is what most people will expect.

With this size of screen resolution this thing is good for nothing at all. A complete waste of money. That's why it's cold.

No good even for internet browsing because the scree res means you'd be contantly scrolling from side to side. As good as useless.

But if everyone voted on the basis of whether a product may be good value for some small niche group then every 'deal' would get hot and there wouldn't be any reason for the site to exist.

Actually the screen res isn't too much of a problem (assuming it's 800x480), the CPU and operating system are the big issues with this machine.

Actually the whole thing is a pile of crap and you'd be mad to buy it.

Bought two of these before Christmas for My daughters to use. I tried them Myself to make sure they were working, and took them straight back to the store! I have since spoken to the shop assistant and He told Me that nearly all of the ones they sold have been returned for a refund! Sorry but these are a complete waste of money.

I can assure every single person out there that every single "laptop" i have ever seen sold from the store i work in has been returned as either faulty or just useless. The wireless function is often what holds people back as it seems to favour the off mode. :) An unfortunate buy for any unsuspecting customer.
