I needed a tough but very pocketable torch for work.

Saw this on Deal Extreme.

Really good reviews.

Very strong stainless steel construction.

"Cree" light emitter (Wow!!! Very powerful).

Works great on a single rechargeable AA.

Five modes - high (ouch!!), medium, low (useful as a reading type of light), strobe and SOS.

Will stand on it's end if you need a bit of light whilst camping etc.

Luminous Tail button so useful if you drop it in the dark whilst switched off.

Includes a lanyard to help prevent dropping it in the dark in the first place.

Some people may balk at the price but having received this today I am very impressed. I've used official maglite products in the past and this is in another league.

Trying to work out the size from the website - is that a 20mm diameter?
#3
I have a very similar one bought from dealextreme for roughly the same amount - perhaps slightly less. Very well built and really bright light. Take two on holiday - they are great. highly recommended. (I also don't use my maglites any more)
#4
it's a bit bigger than an AA battery..just compare the picture. Very pocketable.
#5
Delivery quite quick too - from despatch to delivery was a week, though they had my order a couple of days before despatch (blame that on chinese new year holiday backlog I think)

I gave one of these to my wife and it's very good. Took a long while to come though because it was shipped direct from Shenzen via Chinapost, who it appears are hopeless.

Shortly after I bought it I bought one of these http://www.dealextreme.com/p/romisen-rc-29-cree-q5-wc-3-mode-180-lumen-convex-lens-led-flashlight-with-strap-1-aa-1-14500-50679 Which, whilst slightly more expensive and larger, is more useful for me with the zoom lens. Shipping on that was even slower at about 5 weeks. Great torches though, I look forward to trying them with 14500 lithium batteries.

good price for an AA powered cree - hot
#8
i had an aa powered cree from deal extreme, it stopped working after a couple of weeks, unfortunately more hassle than its worth to send back but that's the trade off for the cheap price i guess
#9
this one i've bought looks absolutely bullet-proof - really solid construction.
#10
the website was vague as to whether you receive a holster with this

i didn't, not that i'd been bothered about that anyway, twas the torch i wanted not a holster

I think sometimes DX are OOS but don't show it on their web. So sometimes slow shipping id DX slow to send.
#12
My current order with DX has been sitting with them for just over two weeks now :(
#13
I only wish there were some accurate size measurements of the thing on the DX website.

hahaha - very good.

all of their torches have the same micro-measurements - it is a little pedantic in my opinion but it may be important to some.

Ultrafire torches are OK for how much you pay, quality control isn't the best though. Have had one where I had to resolder the connection to the battery on myself, because it was originally done by a blind person or something, you'd never get that with a Fenix, but then they're 3 times the price.

The problems with my recent orders were definitely with China Post. With the first one DX said they had shipped and then shortly after the China Post tracking status said "arrival at transit office of exchange",which it stayed at for about ten days, then it said "departure from outward office of exchange" and it arrived a couple of weeks later.

With the second order it said "arrival at transit office of exchange" for about a week, then it said "departure from outward office of exchange" for about 10 days, followed by again "arrival at transit office of exchange" and eventually "departure from outward office of exchange" and arrival a couple of weeks later. So in my experience China Post aren't a lot of cop. Never had any trouble with orders sent by Hong Kong Post. Reading the DX forums it seems others have had the same problems.

You are right though about DX showing items as being available and then weeks later you check the order status to see "waiting supplier" or some-such. To be fair, as one poster on the DX forums pointed out, doing business in China isn't as neat and tidy as usually it is in the West and I'm happy enough as long as the stuff turns up in the end.

Following Egypt and Libya, some naughty guys in China are trying to cause some problems recently 8)
Postal services will certainly be more cautious for a week or so. Probably millions of order like yours been sitting in the warehouse for inspection

100% agree. Most of the electrical items I have ordered from DX have failed, then the returns get conveniently "lost in the post" etc...

I can almost offer a guarantee that this will stop working (maybe not completely but definitely flickering or fast battery drain or faulty switch) based on my previous experiences!

your guarantee is noted and is most welcome.

for me, however, i'll stick to the 44 positive reviews posted on the dx site.

all the best...........

That's been out for ages. We're waiting for a decent XP-G emitter to match the awesome 4sevens Quark Mini: http://www.4sevens.com/product_info.php?cPath=297&products_id=2491

Dealextreme haven't managed to correctly identify the emitter yet, but this light has one:

I've got to agree that the torch will probably break.

I've had lots of torches from them in the past and if I was to guess a figure its probably 40-50. It does NOT stop me from ordering more. They are cheap and they take a fair whack of abuse but their quality control isnt excellent and you do often get lemons.

Most of the breakages that i've had are just intermittent and I've got them working again. I have had 2 DOA's and they usually just refund my account.

I'd buy it. Thumbs up from me even though they do break.

Try one of the CR123A battery cree torches from them. I got the Hugsby P12, is awesome. But lo ng delivery times
#23
got one, stainless, quite heavy. the switches nearly always seem to be unreliable (on all cheap cree lights). otherwise very good. but not really a deal, and there are hundreds of others..

I bought a http://www.dealextreme.com/p/x2000-flood-to-throw-zooming-glass-optics-cree-p4-wc-led-flashlight-1-18650-14450

From Deal extreme,

Invested in a couple of 14500 cells and a charger and it's amazing.

Best torch I've ever seen or used.

I've been using it regularly for about a year for work and leisure and it's still going strong.

A mate had a Lenser police torch and this was brighter and threw further.

DX is the place for a torch8) i have bought several, and noprobs

Burglars favourite - I found one of these in my van, after it had been recovered by the police after being used in a burglary. It worked great for about ten uses then the on/off button broke. Also got a crowbar! That still works.

Crowbar ;))

I've ordered quite a few things from dx.
Knives whilst copies are very good although look lethal (I'm a farmer).
Rare earth magnets incredibly strong and surprisingly handy.
Gun lasers very very good, had a green one and it shows further than a mile - watch out for planes mind.
Electronics, would not bother workmanship has not been good enough on a couple of gadgets I bought.
Oh torch is on it's way

I've got the same one that takes AAA's Here, works really well.

sadly i have to agree that especially with torches, the lifespan sometimes is very short. I have bought 2 now and both packed up after a week or so.

As someone mentioned before, i'll still buy from DX but don't expect things to last very long. If they do then you got lucky.
