Good price for a good TV, I bought this about 4 weeks ago to use in a bedroom with a PS3 and I am very pleased with it. There are a couple posts here on HUKD and quite a few comments just type UMC in the search box and they will come up, sorry dont know how to do a link.

Got a pretty positive response on av forum - apparently a pretty good set!

I got one, using atm for computer / PS3 / 360 :D

All good quality, full hd also ;) 1080p gaming. The freeview is also good and for the size, it's a good price. Also has scart, sentanta sports card slot, s-video, components, PC audio, CI port and VGA.

I got mine for this price with 10% staff discount.

I have one of these, its great! If you goto SkyMedia they are the UK importer for UMC. They sell a SKY+ remote that will work with this TV and other UMC models. Your current sky remotes wont work this TV as the IR codeset has not yet been released.
As with all "cheap" TV's the menus are a bit nasty and the supplied Remote layout is a pretty bad - BUT it works and you have to go for Sony or similar to get a quality remote anyway!
The DVD is good, seems happy with all media including DVD-+R and dual layer.
Freeview is good and unlike other UMC sets the unit is hard wired to a 240v Plug and does not have another separate 12v adapter block to get in the way.
I paid more than this for mine £150+VAT, so its a good deal!

Just be aware this model DOESN'T have a DVD player - There is one that does which was sold in Sainsbury's and is often in Makro (The later has had it for £149.99 + VAT a couple of times recently).

I went for this about a month ago mainly for use as a PC monitor - Very happy with it and would recommend it. If you buy as an upgrade for an old VGA monitor make sure you have the right cable to connect it with - I connect via DVI to HDMI for 1080P - Did this initially via DVI to HDMI connector and HDMI lead but now have a DVI to HDMI lead - Should be able to pick one up from the high street for under £7 or on EBay for about £4-£5.

Freeview is good on the channels I get and EPG is better than some I've seen. Overall a good purchase.

I bought the DVD version from Sainsburies for £196.00 in January, and its wall mounted within my kitchen. Rest of the family are happy with it.

In my opinion the picture quality is decent, and above par for a monitor in this price range (checked in reference to my Dell 2408WFP, UMC model shows poorer sharpness/colour reproduction).Tested with PC & PS3.

Other Pro's:

*** Decent speakers - sound is loud and clear
*** Input / Output Connections inc. HDMI/VGA/Component/Scart
*** 21.6" 1920x1080 resolution
*** Attractive surround
*** Price

Cons:

*** Poor Quality Remote - both build / button layout.
*** On screen menu - everything is there its just laid out badly just like the(badly laid out) remote required to navigate it.
*** No DVD - was a similar price at Makro to my dismay.

Hope this helps someone.

Sorry Guys, thought this had DVD- If you have a Makro card, I'd get it from them with DVD. They often do it for £150+VAT

Has anybody got this one: -
http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.203-9429.aspx

An extra £20 for the built in DVD player.

Seems good to me (I can clear the CRT and DVD out of the kids room!) but is the
quality as good on this one.

Sorry for taking slightly off topic

Yes, I have :) Must say I'm very happy with it. Thanks to Duke from a previous thread I used code XXR968 to get £ 13 off £90 spend plus personal vouchers and bagged it for around £160.

And thansk to Dregan on same thread I applied Multi-Region hack of:
Press 'Source', go to DVD. Make sure there's no disk in the drive. Press 9 7 3 5, then select Region 0 from the menu.

I found the picture out of the box too bright but once everything wasd toned down I must say I'm very impressed with it. Would have preferred a swivel base but that would be asking for too much. I for one can recommend.

That is only HD ready, which means it will only display up to 1080i (ie. 1080i, 720p...). If your source is 1080p, then normally it will rescale the picture...

Please be aware that both the UMC and Technica 22" LCD's with built in DVDplayer are a poorer spec than the 21.6" LCD that is the subject of this deal.

Firstly the 21.6" LCD is full HD at 1080x1920 and has a 16:9 aspect ratio which is correct for widescreen TV. The two DVD versions are 1050x1680 which is a computer monitor spec and is 16:10 and display of a 16:9 picture on these is a compromise where about 5% of the picture is lost on either side.

Furthermore the DVD versions have a lower contrast ratio. I have seen the 21.6" set alongside the two DVD versions in Tesco and it has a much brighter and contrasted picture and better viewing angles.

Hmmm!

I wanted to order 2 but realised that code was for £13 off an over £90 spend. So I ordered one and then tried to order a second as a separate transaction. However it said you have already used code XXR968 the maximum number of times which is obviously once only!

Ah well will have to try and persuade wife to buy the second on her credit card I suppose!

Id go for Vh226 (somtin like that) on amazon - £145.
its a craker

Sorry do not understand what you are saying?

The UMC can be used as a TV and/or a monitor. It has its own freeview tuner. It can be connected to a PC using either a VGA connection or a DVI-HDMI conversion cable or plug unit.

The Asus is sold as a PC monitor and has no tuners for broadcast TV.

Both have the facility to connect an external Hi def delivery system via HDMI (e.g. a BRD player)

Yes it does come with a remote - No sky codes on common Sky remotes yet but the latest out has/will have them apparently - The one supplied is easy enough to use though.
