I think you've got it wrong. SriLankan is part-owned and fully managed by Emirates Airline of Dubai.
as far as I know LTTE ( the terrorist organisation ) does not own an airline

Nayana is right - SriLankan is a world class airline because it's part of the Emirates family and has a fleet of new aircraft with modern in-flight entertainment etc. The airline itself is sound - it isn't the stereotype of a 'developing world' airline using 30-yr-old rustbuckets.

I have relatives who flew to Sri Lanka using Emirates and then Srilankan, connecting in Dubai, and they were very happy with the service and the holiday. Sri Lanka is supposed to be beautiful with wonderfully friendly people.

I would book this flight if we hadn't just been on holiday.

I cant find any cheap flights for December :(

Thanks Nayana - just sharing my worst experience here & no offence to you or the deal :)

I will shun this airline. Their tactics arent really good - pretending to provide a Westernised service with a Third World attitude. Even the in-flight meal service is hopeless, esp if you sit in the middle of the plane and by the time they reach you from either end, the 5 page Menu card is useless - you have to eat what is left over. Not exaggerating - happened during both onward & return journeys. My baggage was cut open at Colombo Katnayake airport and till today the Airline havent replied to my complaint. Their customer service is in Colombo (UK office is for sales & cargo) and after about half-a-dozen phone calls I have given up now.

Sorry guys, I'm afraid this thread is going in the wrong direction. Let us focus on the deal & airline and nothing else.

To be fair, though, edi - I know how disappointing these things are, and I haven't been on SriLankan myself - but the meal thing has happened to me on Virgin and BA so far this year and bags-cut-open is why everyone's told not to lock their suitcases any more. It happens all the time flying to and from the US if anyone forgets to leave them unlocked. There is terrorism in SriLanka (a couple of their aircraft were destroyed on the ground a few years back) and I'd rather the airport opened suitcases to check them.
I'm not trying to dismiss your disappointment or anything, but these don't sound like problems with the airline for anyone who likes this price for a winter trip to Sri Lanka.

Edi,
I think you may have been unlucky. I always fly with them and never had any problems. They have been given a 4* rating by SkyTrax (http://www.airlinequality.com/Airlines/UL.htm)
