Found this shop on Saturday - absolutely brilliant prices for things like CD/DVD cases, batteries, scart splitter, USB splitters, Disposable Cameras, car equipment, etc. Honestly - half of this stuff you will see on ebay for £7.99 buy it now etc, esp the car stuff. The toys ar brilliant for taking on holidays if you have kids as they are that cheap you can leave them there. I even bought a decent set of car window wipers and you guessed it - everything is a pound!!! Happy hunting!

Everything a pound? Well that's very reasonable. What, each!? 20 bob, ......

Ah ye olde poundland.... I don't think this is news to most people - hence the coldness. Sometimes there are items of particular note (such as Tumble dryer balls recently)

So, in the olden days, 1 "bob" was equal in value to 5p?

I found this little Scottish restaurant the other day, it was amazing; great value meals and a 'free' toy with selected childrens delicacies.

1 bob sounds a lot better than 5p:-D Thanks for the clarification:thumbsup:

It was a lot better than 5p - we're talking 36 years ago. 5p bought you a fair bit more then than it does now. A bob (or shilling) was 12 old pence or 1/20 of a pound. With decimalisation in 1971, 1/20 of a quid was 5p, so that took over as a "bob".

I agree Dino it doesn't deserve to be voted cold (imo). Ok so it's poundland but i've seen a few things in there that i've seen more expensive in other places. It's a good tip :D

It's obvious that this site has hundreds of people watching and not posting so it's nice when someone posts a deal or tip to share with others.

Don't be put off by the cold votes sw02jco :)

I voted Hot because I don't have daily access to poundland's new lines and I also think some of the items are well worth a quid which I wouldn't of known if it wasn't for the OP.

You think a pound is cheap, well where I live we go one penny better with the 99p store!

Seriously though they do have some real bargains, I buy all my envelopes and bubble wrap there.:-D
#15
I voted hot aswell, there is a poundland near where I work, but I don't go in everyday, so it is good if someone points out a deal at the moment. cheers.

Cheers for this - thought my nearest store was Merry Hill and only get there approx once a year - but because of your post I checked the store finder and discovered there is one much nearer in Bletchley MK!! Woo hooo!

Currently £1 (one pound) for each item that is for sale. I hope this helps!

I had to really think about this as there were so many possible answers!

I tell you what I got loads of recharchable pencil batteries from poundland and they're brilliant , they last in the kids' gameboy for ages ! Just as good if not better than other rechargables .
#20
Everywhere on the planet has them!

It's worth noting that some stuff in Poundland is actually cheaper in places like Asda so don't automatically assume it cheaper.

Also, out local one was selling cutlery sets about a year ago. "Bargain!" I thought until I got to the till and found they were £4.99!

It seems the "Everything's a pound" doesn't necessarily apply to all lines.
#21
i could really stun you here about how much profit the 99p store chain makes in a year..........anyone really want to know
#22
Go on - I bet they are making a packet!
#23

on on then

here we go

in the first half of 2005 (5 months) the company made 28million prrrrrrrrofit
(99p stores)
(i am 90% sure of this)
i cant reveal how i know this either - but i also beleive that the owner of the stores owns one of the factories that manufactures most of the tattier items
#34
when i was in the States I liked the look of the 99 cents stores, convenient or what..... actually not so as by the time they have added the tax its something like $1.07 kinda takes the shine off it for me.

Same thing happened to me, but I went one better.

Is this Worldwide? Is this a global company then?

| thought they were just one of those easy come easy go pound shops to be honest.

I suppose I could do a Google on them but for the first time in my life I really can't be arsed. Still £28 million profit seems a bit over the top to me, even if they are Worldwide and produce the tak themselves.
