are we still allowed, by the PC brigade and our delightful government, to celebrate that we are British or is that a thing of the past?

Why would you want to celebrate being British?
Hence,£4.99 still expensive.

I am proud I am British, Its a shame the MP's of this country seem to suck everything and get away with it. I am sure if you could pull yourself away from the computer and visit a few countries I am sure you would be glad to be here. If not you know where the door is

I just find all this union jack waving a little offensive to immigrants who have newly settled here.
some find it jingoistic at best, racist at worst. It embarrasses most sensitive British nationals like myself, that this minority group do not feel included in the land of there choice.
:-(

Hot!
Just wish it had been posted before the Twelfth of July.

Well, I'm proud to live in an area where there aren't many flag-waving tw*ts around.
People so devoid of personality they have to appeal to a lowest common denominator such as the island on which they were born to feel a part of something.

The ironic thing being that it's exactly this demographic who eventually end up as ex-pats
#13
It's in the sale because there are hardly any brits left, and those that are lost pride in the country a long time ago.
#14
So what you're saying is that anyone who has the british flag flying in their house is a racist?

Hehe, is that not a bit offensive to immigrants, generalising on their behalf?
Most I know are proud to embrace and support the country they have chosen to come to.
#16
I know a lot of ppl in Norn Iron would have loved to have that over last weekend :)

So what you're saying is that anyone who has the british flag flying in their house is a racist?

definitely not. just that it can leave some people from other ethnic cultural backgrounds feeling racially excluded. I am sure most people would see this as a bad thing.Though in my experience most people who fly such flags do so for negative reasons.
#18
This isn't celebrating being British, it's celebrating being a chav.

Why? If they are immigrants who have settled here, they are British too. Nobody is saying the flag doesn't apply to them, or that they couldn't wave a British flag if they wanted to. Being patriotic isn't racist. As you said, Britain is the land of their choice - why would they find a British flag racist then? It represents the land they have chosen and they are very welcome.

unfortunately the british flag has been hijacked by right wing groups and is now a standard for the "we are the people" brigade, and is now seen by many as a icon of oppression by association .think BNP,combat 18,uvf,etc.

The 'British flag' is the flag of our country. I for one am proud of it and all it represents. Can't help feeling that those who are raising the anti British issues here have their own agenda.
It's a hot deal for me. Vote on the deal and stop bringing petty politically point scoring in to it.
Joeo2000 I hope you mean the present U.V.F. when you slate them and not the original which formed the 36th Ulster Division who fought at the battle of the Somme.

All the more reason for everyone else to take it back and un-hijack it, or else they've won. I'm not going to let my country's flag become a symbol of racism just because some right-wingers like waving it. I won't have it dictated to me that the flag isn't mine unless I'm right-wing.

Still, this isn't really the forum for this debate, best to agree to disagree I suppose.

I've rated the deal hot. I wouldn't personally buy it because I think it looks tacky, not because of the flag but just the design of the product. But, it's a good price for people who have taste different to mine. And we're supposed to be here to rate deals based on that.

not indigenous to these isles, but now I'm british I'm proud and no problems saying it, and in scotland the bnp & right wing groups etc have nowhere near as strong a presence as down south.

but this accessories pack seems a bit much for a car, good if you live in NI to show your loyalties, but rest of the UK a flag will suffice.

did the 36th Ulster Division use the union jack as a symbol of hate towards other cultures ,colours and creeds. No I didn't think so.
I never raised anti British issues,in fact the opposite is true.
No i do not have an agenda, though I feel it would benefit some to say I have.
Oh boy! fundamentalists.I'm going for a lie down .

It's a christian flag, made up of crosses. Trying to say it DOES apply to them is religious oppression

that's one of the reasons why I've never, and will never vote for them  (the main reason being chip on the shoulder, short sighted, narrow minded views for wanting independence) UNITED we stand I say! :-D
