Agree 100%.
I went from NYC to San Fran by train (California Zephyr) and it was unforgettable. Rocky Mountains, Sierra Nevada, Mississippi River, Chicago, Colorado, Nevada deserts, upstate New York in the autumn!

I'd agree with this too - did the west coast from Vancouver down to L.A. - was a great trip, it just takes a bit (read: a lot) longer on the train than flying!

What an odd thing to say. Presumably if you are on this no fly list, you wouldn't be able to get into the USA anyway so your point is both moot and blindingly obvious

I think the point he's making is that if your name is John Smith and there's a John Smith on the fly list then it's difficult to persuade them to allow you to fly.

But that's to do with flying in general, there's nothing about that point specific to the deal... it's like saying "6 mars bars for a pound... not so great if you're allergic to chocolate"

How much is you taking them up on this offer going to change how many times they run planes during it?

Actually it kind of is if you can only fly on standby. You are basically taking up a seat that would otherwise have been empty and therefore wasteful.
