Unlimited Bus Travel starting from £1.00!

My first post so please be gentle!!

Found this really good deal whereby you can add unlimited bus travel to your train ticket from £1 per day. Apparently it's available in 195 UK towns and cities.

I found it on the One Railway site, am off to Norwich and as buses are extortionately priced there (£2 for a 1 way journey last time I went) it'll be quite a saving! Don't know how much buses are in other cities but hopefully it'll save someone some money.

As far as I can see you just ask for it when you buy your rail ticket, that'scertainly the case with One Railway: http://www.onerailway.com/templates/Generic.aspx?id=2587

Hmm..but the prices are the same if you buy it directly from the bus driver (if you ask for unlimited travel instead of one way ticket)... That is judging from the price I got from the website for Bristol and Cambridge...as I know the prices there. Maybe only cheaper for some other cities?

In Bristol a FirstDay costs an Adult £4.40 (before 0900 Monday – Friday) and £3.50 at all other times. Plusbus costs £3 (Adult). If you have a Young Persons rail card you can get a third off plus bus, so £2 (Student First day costs £2.80)

Just read for Bristol, PlusBus for 1-month is £38 (normally costs £65 Adult/ £52 Student). Is that only valid with a 1 month rail ticket? If not then for me with a young persons railcard one month will cost £25.08???

Sorry, I stand corrected. I just looked at the Bristol one day fare and I thought it's about £3 for normal price. (Maybe I was looking at the student fare)

But for Cambridge, I'm pretty sure the 1-day fare is the same (£2.70)... Not sure about the 1-week, 1-month fare though.

You have to buy a rail ticket and the plusbus add on. Plus bus is not available on it's own. I work on the trains and these have been around for years, except now they are getting publicity.
It's of absolutely no use to anyone who just wants the bus, and is not using the train.
It's only really a good deal if you have a railcard (and need both train and bus).
Where i live, in Kent the plus bus add on is the same as the unlimited travel ticket offered by the bus companies.
As far as i know, you cannnot buy this from the bus driver and is only available at the train station - with a train ticket.
Also, you can only get a railcard discount on a daily ticket.
Personally, I think these tickets have a very limited market and aren't that great.
As i say completely useless to anyone only using the bus, as you must by a train ticket.

Can you ask for it in any station around the country when you buy your tickets? If you can, vote hot! Save me a lot of money :) THANKS OP

What I meant from my post is that is it possible for me to buy a single ticket over the phone, eg Birmingham to Bristol and add on the one month plusbus? single would cost me around £9 so I could still save a packet!

Here's the info for anyone using Southern railways
http://www.southernrailway.com/main.php?page_id=407 and this is the central website for Plusbus info http://www.plusbus.info/,

No.
Plusbus is not available from Birmingham to Bristol - there is no daily train ticket, all there are are savers (even the single is a saver single), so you cannot get plusbus.
As i said, plusbus is only available on daily train tickets, not on a weekly, monthly or any period return ticket.
As an aside, I had a look today and my machine would not let me issue railcard discount on the plusbus add on, so you don't save there.

If you go to the plusbus site, click on the "What is the Fare" button and scroll down, it says Extra savings with your Railcard
With a Railcard (Disabled Persons, Family, Network Card, Senior or Young Persons) you will save one-third off the price of a day, or period return PLUSBUS ticket. It's ideal for days-out and for breaks to to visit your friends and family!
